Canadian companies are the problem as well. They pretend they can't find Canadians to work (been experiencing this since 1976) and then hire temporary foreign workers, and the illegal immigrants. The Canadian business owners then get Canadian government grants and subsidies from 50% to 70% to cover the temporary workers wages and more than likely when they hire illegal immigrants as well, along with kick backs for providing housing. Canadian companies also pay those workers under the table, especially in the hospitality industry, and lay off Canadians and keep the temporary foreign workers and pay them under the table. Now if the Canadian government would offer grants and subsidies when Canadian companies hire Canadians, more Canadians would have full time jobs with livable wages. The Canadian government has to stop allowing foreign entities from buying Canadian businesses as they only have to hire 1 Canadian. After that the foreign entities who bought Canadian businesses are allowed to bring in as many of their workers as they want. That has to be stopped as well.

They would graduate go back to their country and leave the house empty, leaving us Canadian with no home to buy or the prices are too high. Something else contributing to the insane housing prices in Vancouver that you didn't cover is the black market housing happening in Richmond. I read an article on it 15 years ago. TLDR is illegal immigrants have been paying loan shark mafia to buy houses for them because they aren't allowed to, and then they pay the loan shark 400% of the original cost. Our government, both federally and provincially have known about it for decades and do nothing to stop it. I wouldn't be suprised if it's happening in other major cities as well.

All the west countries should stop giving permanent residency to expats and just give them 5 to 10 year work permit so expats of 'N' number can come here on tourist/visit visa and ger hired on a work permit of 5 to 10 years, have better life in their home country where they are considered first, where they can build big homes without loan and buy cars and save money have better life, and you guys keep your people first. There is one very easy solution to the situation, home is not an asset and that is it. Stop giving tax loopholes for landlords, but tax them, make regulatory departments regulate, now is the time to do it. No entity should be allowed to buy more than 2 properties on the market. If the entity wants to have more properties, then it must build them itself, create new flats, homes, etc. Capital should not be gained by exploiting the need of young people and immigrants for accommodation. Shelter is one of the key milestones achieved for western civilization. If the decision makers allow things to go as they are, then we will rather quickly return to the feudal society structure, with lords and peasants, with haves and have nots.

Years 2021 and 2022 had high #s too. \n \nThe majority trying to migrate to Canada recently have been from South Asia. And it's become extremely obvious to Canadians. Even those that are very used to much diversity & many cultures. Plus neighborhoods now know that international students are using schooling as a 'back door' ticket to come to Canada for permanent residency. No one says it in public amongst strangers, but everyone knows because they've witnessed the extreme PR frenzy firsthand by now. To many Canadians it has felt like a tidal wave that has reached all cities and small towns, with a post secondary school. This extreme situation never existed prior to 4 years ago.\n \nHospitals have been hit with many wanting free healthcare. Less doctors/nurses etc., means greater waiting times. Plus a VERY SEVERE HOUSING CRISIS has occurred in many western countries including in Canada. In ways not seen in people's lifetimes. And if you do find a place to live its quite expensive. Including small basement rooms. \n \nNow westerners want the money greedy agents (pseudo smugglers) in other countries to stop marketing & LYING to their own people about access to PR or citizenship … or accommodation/jobs … being easy (to get). And for any greedy people living in western countries to be ashamed of themselves if they're hurting students. Anyone doing things to make $ off of people's PR desires. At best, there is a 25% chance of gaining PR (better odds if you are masters/medicine etc.). \n \nNot all players across the board have acted honestly over the years, i.e. contract marriages (IELTS spouse), anchor babies, fraud, false asylum claims. My mother had an international driver's license from France and she had to go through hoops to get her licence here. Then they will take that money also, and put it into homes. Rent etc, and this is the part where they basically drain the immigrant money in an instant and put it into Canada economy. BC changed their labour laws to where an employer only has to give 2 hours of paid work in a day and they call that a job. If employers would get the same kick backs and perks for hiring Canadians then there wouldn't be a need for hiring temporary foreign workers and the illegal immigrants and providing them with housing that Canadians, especially veterans, don't get. I'M A CANADIAN BORN AND RAISED HERE, I HOLD A JOURNEYMAN STATUS, IN THREE DIFFERENT TRADES, GLAZIER, ROOFER AND BUTCHER!!! \n\nALL OF WHICH, I WENT TO SCHOOL, TO HELP REACH MY JOURNEYMENT STATUS, FOR THESE TRADES! \n\nNOT ONE OF THESE TRADES, WOULD THE GOUVERMENT, GIVE ME A GOVERNMENT GRANT FOR OR ANY KIND OF SUPPORT, TO HELP ME START MY OWN COMPANY, WHICH I HELD JOURNEYMAN STATUS IN!!!\n\nTHE FACT THAT TWO OF MY TRADES, WERE IN CONSTRUCTION AND THE GOVERNMENT HAD CLASSIFIED AS SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT, SO I COULDN'T EVEN GET A BANK LOAN, TO START A BUSINESS, FOR THE SAME REASON!!!\n \nMY LAST TRADE, WAS IN THE MEAT INDUSTRY, WHERE WHO EVER OWNED THE BUSINESS IN THE MEAT INDUSTRY, MADE MONEY, UNTIL THE GOVERNMENT ALLOWED THE BIG CORPERATIONS TO TAKE OVER THE MEAT INDUSTRY!!! \n\nCUTTING OFF THE LITTLE MEAT STORE, WITH ALL THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTIONS AND REGULATIONS, KILLING OFF ALL THE LITTLE COMPETITION, FOR THE MAJOR CORPERATIONS, TO BUY OUT THE LITTLE GUY OR CUT OFF THE SUPPLY OF MEAT, COMING INTO TOWN!!!\n\nIN FACT MY LAST EMPLOYER SQUEASED, THE EMPLOYEE'S OUT OF THEIR JOBS, TO GIVE SKILLED LABOUR, HIGH PAYING JOBS, TO FOREIGN WORKERS, CUTTING THE WAGES IN HALF, FORCING DOWN THE WAGES IN THE INDUSTRY! WHEN THE FOREIGN WORKER PROGRAM, WAS FOR UNSKILLED JOBS!\n\nDID THE PRICE OF MEAT GO DOWN, NO! DID YOUR HOUSEHOLD DEBT GO DOWN, NO IN FACT IT WENT UP AND WITH THE CARBON TAXES, THE COSTS HAVE TRIPLED, HAS YOUR WAGES MATCHED THE COST OF LIVING, NO IT HASN'T, IN FACT IT HASN'T REACHED THE LEVELS, NEEDED TO BREAK EVEN!!!\n\nBRINGING IN MORE IMMIGRATION, IS NOT THE ANSWER!!! \n\nLIFTING UP PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY AND STOPPING ABORTIONS, WILL HELP INCREASE THE POPULATION AND PUT PEOPLE BACK TO WORK, EVEN AT MINIMUM WAGES!!! \n\nWHICH ARE AT $15 DOLLARS PER HOUR, IF THE GOVERNMENT STOPPED STEALING THE OVERTIME WAGES, IT WOULD HELP PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY, THAT MUCH FASTER, WITH A SENCE OF PRIDE!!!

Yes , it has to stop. because the is no housing for them here . and also this students are doin a business .like they will buy a house here with the help of some family where they come from. and then they will recruite or bring thier parents here or relatives . why on earth this students can buy a property while they are only on students visa. they do not pay any tax . am talking with my experienced after when after learning that the buyer of my house was a students. it was so disgusted. my Question is why this government allowing this to happened. and now I can not get an affordable place to buy or to rent. not even in a independent senior living . what a SHAME .

I was a student I had Indian roommates who hardly spoke English. I don't blame them because they want a better life. Who I do blame is governments who create suffering for both Canadians and individuals who come here thinking they will have a better life. End the madness, it's ruining our once well respected academic organizations.The answer is yes. Canadians can't find work, housing and our ERs are flooded. stop the acceptance of international students this is one of cause of shotage of housing and money to buy food therefore go to food banks which is not for these purpose. STOP

It's 100% true. International students are being exploited for tuition money and GIC money. Students have taken huge loans from their home country expecting that they will be able to get jobs and pay off their debt but since last 1 year students are jobless. We are failing to get menial labor jobs. Inflation and rent are sky high and our GIC money is not enough to survive here. I myself sleep hungry sometimes as I don't have enough money to buy food after paying rent. I think if they can't give us jobs and affordable housing, canada should stop calling itself a developed first world country. We should call out the whole system for keeping international students in inhumane conditions.
