Why does the Sikh still have the right to carry arms in India? Also they are not legally required to wear helmets while on two wheelers. Laws should be the same for every citizen. This must change.

I have friends who are Sikhs, no one shows up wearing that. It is a threat coz he is showing it to the public . He shouldn’t be arrested but asked to not come to campus with such stuff. He has a mental problem. Why would he do that , he did it purposely to get attention lol

I think there are issues on both sides. The cop's mistake is obvious. That kid probably could have still be complying with his religion by either wearing it inside or use a knife with 2-4 inch blade (which a lot of other Sikhs do).

Sikhs can carry knives in india, its legal for them here, but not every country allows u to do that.. we must respect rules of every country. Religions come 2nd, 1st will always be the law of land.

i respect that police officer too...who did wat a police officer should do for safety of people....he is a sikh and he is in another country where not everyone know about the religion , culture and things that other religious people carry with them...so he did his duty....and thn after knowing everything about the kirpan they apologies...thats how a country should do and respect other culture and religion

There is 2 types of Sikh..... one that are baptized and live that life and then that knife would actually be part of his religion and there is a few extra things..... and then there is Sikh that are not living that life and are more peaceful and would not have a knife like that unless they ( wanted to for fun) ....... if he lives his life as the type that always has that as a Sikh this was a violation of his wright to religion and is a serious lawsuit and also wrongful detaining .....

If my Sikh brother had requested that policeman to not put handcuffs on him because he is a student and he will walk with him politely or the policeman had done his work more sincerely by understanding & listening to that kid what he was trying to say about his religion, this whole scenes will be different and could be resolved then 'n there.\nBut what's done is done can't undo it.

I have sikh friends and they are very religious. They never carried kripan in college.

The thing is most of kirpans Sikhs carry are dull, they’re symbols only and cannot be considered weapons. And as far as I know this is completely fine with the law in the US (depending on state I think)

Even though I'm Indian and would want to side with the Sikh student, I can't. Kirpan along with other accessories were used by Sikhs for fighting against Mughals back in the old days. There's no reason for Sikhs to be holding all these accesories now, especially at a place of learning.

As an Indian I must say you can't perform or carry out your cultural things everywhere. Specially school, colleges & University. That knife(Kirpan) is a religion thing for Sikhs but you should take responsibility of your surroundings as well.

If everyone around him were not comfortable with hi. Carrying a kripan he could have removed it .. would not make him a lesser Sikh

If i was there would remove the turban also. Keep your religion at home we won't allow to keep sikh to wear turban(pug) in pakistan, and because of mutual understanding and brotherhood in muslim and sikh, sikh don't wear turban( pug) in muslim majority area , every country has its set of rule and everyone should follow it.\nAllahu Akbar!

Most of the sikhs wear it inside their shirt. Kripan is for self-defense, it is not to show the world that you have a knife.

Not every Sikh carries a kripan so why he needs one . Why do Sikhs need a special provision .
