This is a systematic issue to be blamed on our very own federal government. \n\nCanada has an aging population and needs a constant influx of cheap young workers to keep the businesses going.\n\nWithout the cheap indian, phillipino, Vietnamese, Brazilian and other workers from developing nations, cheap labor will become harder and harder to come by. \n\nWages will have to go up to face the labor shortage, which would harm the bottom line or the richest 10% of the population that own and run these businesses. \n\nCanada is exploiting these poor kids, and is changing its own face in the process.

I knew it all the time. My son wanted to go to Canada. I steadfastly refused. I told him not to sell his 'jameer' for 'phoren' and that it would be ok with me even he earns Rs 5-10K/month. I am vindicated. Education is a scam worldwide. I am smart enough to know it because I am not 'educated' ? I barely passed Std 12 with 43% yet I am earning well. My advice to all the aspiring students is don't waste your parents' hard earned money on false pursuits.

I would like to thank CBC Fifth Estate for their initiative to uncover the trauma these students go through. This is only one cornerstone of the story. Fifth Estate need to dig deeper and come up with part 2 to look in to our Federal Government policy regarding issuing Student Visa from India. Why these so called for profit colleges / agencies only targeting students from India and not from any other countries ? The Student VISA process is different for students from other countries. It’s our government who is exploiting these students and playing with their hopes and dreams.

Paying for 1/5th of what an international student pays is a privilege that a Canadian Citizen rightful enjoys. Education doesn’t come cheap. The international students’ parents don’t pay any income taxes that would go into subsidizing post secondary education. Don’t forget Canadians pay some of the highest level of income taxes in the world. Many of these underprivileged Punjabi students chose to the live in the cramped conditions are “being exploited” by their Punjabi landlords.

the part where the one student in India is asked why he wants to go in Canada and he says he wants a white collar job and the life he dreamed of which I would imagine entails a Canadian wife as well? In other words, shouldn't Canada try to attract people to do work in building homes and things we need instead of rent seeking industries like banking, insurance etc... that doesn't improve the lives of Canadians already born here (and in some cases go generations back)

Bhai you have to take into account taxes as well … cost of living is high in Canada… focus on building new skills as soon as you arrive in fact come equipped from home if you can as those courses would be a lot cheaper then here… you have to go above minimum pay otherwise life is daily struggle to make ends meet

They told me to leave after living in Canada 8yrs had successfull construction business had 8 employees paid taxes for on everything but still I had to go back than re-enter but than I opened up business in my home country and it did wonders and I never thought about going back the cbsa did me a favor I think or I would never have discovered what I was missing

A website listing statistical comparisons of all country's characteristics for immigrants may help. This may help immigrants to choose wisely and avoid Canada and go someplace they would prefer. A time plan showing how much resources are needed to go any where in the world they want, should be included. This would help immigrants before anyone leaves the original country. It is important to know if and where they can recreate an environment like they left behind, in a new country.

The Problem is where you are coming from, if your life is most of the times under the fear of danger then you would want to go somewhere else. Also in most developing Nations what we spend to survive is more than the taxes you pay in most western countries where the taxes are well used to provide basic amenities. In Nigeria to have constant electricity means you have to have lots of money; you pay high electricity bills, yet no light you spend so much for Generator, fuelling it and also solar source of power is so expensive etc..

Back home as divorce was taboo, I would have remained married n suffer. He moved on and left me and my child of 5 years old on the street but thanks to Canada, no one judged me, no one talked about me. I did not ask or took any help cause I worked 2 jobs for few years to make ends meet. With time things got better, now my child has graduated and working.\nHe worked n paid for his studies.\nI have not been discriminated or faced racism despite I come from African continent and of colour but my son has as he was young but he learnt from it.\nCanada gave me my freedom, my peace, my happiness and I am no longer discrimated by my own religion, culture and people who thinks if you are lighter you are prettier.\nWomen were and are still considered secondary compared to men.\nHere we are equal.\nHere they love and respect me for who I am and not based on looks.\nBack home my c-section was f up and I am still paying the consequences. After an accident, I had to go through a leg surgery. So true. We are so heavily taxed here in Canada, especially Quebec. The government has so much money in the bank that they kept overdoing those street roads, highway and even bike path again and again. They are wasting our money more than ever. And more than ever, there' s also a lot of homeless people on the street , because they'd use that kind of excuses not to give them their unemployment insurance benefits after loosing their job , but would force them to get welfare assistance instead. where the money is barely enough to pay for their monthly groceries and that`d leave them to make a choice between their rents or to go hungry.

I Was born in Canada and I agree and disagree with some points you've mentioned. How can you come to Canada and not expect to wear a jacket ? lol... The price of living is going up all over the world, the last 6yrs has become very pricey in all western countries. Hospitals are overrun in major cities in Canada that's very true, but not in smaller locations. Boring (are you crazy ? lolol) I completely disagree. You just don't know where to go lol ... however everything you do in Canada cost money ?. And I completely agree when you mention that Canada won't allow you to become filthy rich (very disappointed about that one) ... There is racism, but not just from the predominant Canadians. There have been many times when the racism is from someone new to Canada. But i also know as a black person i will experience this anywhere in the world. That would be a sad place to live, because there will come a time when you get older you need something paid for because you can't work sun up to sun down, if most of your money is going to taxes it is hard to get ahead one would have to take some money and pay for land outside of the country to have a place to go one day in order to live, but I thought that place was a part of England rule, maybe that is why taxes are so high.

Healthcare is very expensive for the individual. You pay and pay and pay then when you go to use it. You only have access to 2/3 of proper care.\nCanada has endless entertainment and fun things to do. Depends on what you enjoy doing. If you are into outdoor activities Canada has them all. You would have to travel otherwise to enjoy. Canada has deserts forests lakes oceans and every environment in between. Get out touch grass. I can see why you say it's boring if you do not use the environment around you. But that's your own fault refusing to see it. You get used to the cold. It's better if you dress for it and also go enjoy the outdoors.

The work life balance is awful . I an now 43 years old and I spent so many weekends in my 20s and 30s working to get ahead and now that my youth has passed me by I wish I had more of my youthful weekends to myself.. now I am in a position where I don't have go work on weekends near as much but find myself with nothing to do on weekends and at 43 the time for partying and the down town bar \n scene has passed my be and most people my age ar not into that anymore and truth be told it's not all the appealing to me anymore either and I live in a city where partying and the down town bar science is the only thing there is here. It's very much an east coast port city/college town \nPost colonia city it's great for tourists College Students and young working people but once you pass the age of 35 it gets really boring when I was younger and wanted to spend all of my free time partying and going to house parties and hitting the bar scene I thought I lived in the greatest place on earth now that I am on my 40s I am bored stiff and other then going out for my daily walks for exercise when I am not working I spend most of time at home reading watching you tube or listening to my record collection all of which I really enjoy but I do miss my Youthfull socializing but 43 years don't belong in night clubs with people half their age and nor would it feel appropriate doing so . I miss being 25 and at the club and wish I had done more it instead of spending so many Friday and Saturday nights at the ship building factory.

I'm a blk American born and raised and l have serious interest in moving to Canada. Since my people are from the US this is all l know so Im acclimated to the racial climate of the states. A lot of your cons are the same issues many face in the states. Taxes are crazy cost of living is insane wages are stagnant and you basically live to work. I live in Minnesota which is not far from the Canadian border but originally from New Jersey so I'm used to the cold. The health care system is sh*t here. Noone really has money to pay privately that's why our care is funded by employers. At the current moment there is also a shortage of medical professionals so often times you still have to wait months for appointments but you know what l would rather wait and have my taxes pay for my doctor then go into medical debt. My biggest issue with America is you pay all these taxes and reap nothing at least in Canada you can kinda see where the money is going.

I've never been to Canada, but off the bat I can imagine with it being a British colony and right next to the United States, the lifestyles are just completely different. We've thought to move there but decided not to, a couple of other relatives will be moving there but as hard as things are in Miami I think to myself, why the hell would I live in the cold when I can walk to the damn beach with my beer and smoke one. As a Jamaican it was easy for us to go there but I've never wanted to go because I've thought, what am I going there to do.

Coming from the UK, I am emphatic to the issues of high cost of living, the struggle to build wealth and overwhelming healthcare system but paying tax for essential services is not the problem, you should be paying into the system to help those that struggle to support themselves due to low wages and you also can benefit from these services. Nigerians can sometimes come with the same mentalities of classism and not wanting to pay into system even when they can afford it and still be very comfortable. If the economic system at the very least supported all Nigerians kids going to school and if this was supported by tax, Nigeria would be in a better place too

After reading the comments it's funny how people still thinks where you are born or your country origin is home. Imagine thinking that's the definition of home to begin with, sometimes I Just shake my head when I see people using such content to define home. Home dosen't necessarily have to be your country origin or whatsoever. I personally would define home as anywhere with the best of contents I seek along with my Characteristics being blended. \nAlso I don't get why people are criticizing those who said they won't come back, they have there various reasons for moving abroad, it might be for a better life, academic, security and lots other stuffs. I am just waiting to be financially stable and free with my passive income, then I am leaving Canada! All you said in the video is TRUE!!! If my parents country was good and stable, I would had go live there, but I will do like most of my culture do, live in my parents country for 6 months, then travel in another country and spend 4 months in Canada. I also thought about going to USA (Specifically Georgia that I fell in love with) but with everything that I heard with racism, no free health care, I wasn't interested anymore.

I would like to point out that this is a system of deteriorating politics where tax money doesn't go to maintaining fast services and they try to take most tax funds from the middle income citizens but give breaks to the 'big' business and rich people.

I noticed here in Qatar life is not what I had anticipated, why now risk of going to Canada with the same hopes of a better life and pay? I discussed it with my wife back home (Uganda) and told her I would rather stay in Qatar and focus then go back home as my children need me more than they need the money I think I will get. Two vacation and the employer also tells you you can't go in summer because the summer is peak season and you can't take two weeks together too. And just for your info US is not Black friendly. And most of people who come here are from third world and poor countries. And for them Canada is heaven. Do you think people from developed countries would come here no. My dear, TAXES, are the mainstay of every advanced society; they provide that attractive environment which becomes the dragnet for people from the third world where little or no taxes are paid and the little that is paid is cornered by the rich and powerful. What you experience in Canada is what obtains in every developed country including advanced Asian societies like Japan.\nSecondly these societies are maintained not just for present generation but for those yet unborn, again unlike third world societies where you care about today only.\nFinally it is not intended that citizens would come and stay a short while and amass wealth and go back to their countries, they are expected to be part of the society perpetually in which case their children would take advantage of their contributions to that society.\nThis is a model that should be emulated to guarantee long time survival of a society and culture.

The major reason this African women love countries like Canada is because of feminism. They love societies where the men have basically been castrated, they can call police on their husbands or boyfriends and got him thrown out. They love those women worshipping societies, where she can never do wrong and is placed on a pedestal to be worshipped. One of the problem is that the doctors and other medical professionals use the low costs educational systems in Canada to get an education and then promptly leave for the US. Taxes are high in Canada. But try paying 20,000 to 25,000 to buy health insurance for a family of three. And you go to hospital for a week and end up with $125,000. Bill. When you consider the cost of education and medical. In the US where you paying high health insurance, you wait 8 hours in ER. I think most immigrants are too disgruntled. Many of them.move to Us and regret it. Sometimes, we want to come into Canada and look to get rather than contribute. Where in the US are seniors getting old age pension. The older people do leave but why would you count them as departures.

I would be interested to know; if people were able to make the same money in your home country would they go back? It seems like it's only the ability to make money that is running people away from home.
