Good at the end of the day, we don’t need to defund things like police, what we need is to defund school. At this point, it’s a useless system that’s been overdated. It’s does absolutely nothing for the Canadian and the Canadian working class, and just gives international student a free pass to a PR statue. Which doesn’t nothing but take up resources. At fanshew college it’s basically a place with a bunch of immigrants using it as a holding cell till they meet the requirement and what’s funny is that all fanshew Programs and degree only take not even haft of the minimum effort to pass and get a diploma. So now we are recruiting a bunch of immigrant who are gonna rely things like our society infrastructure which ends up taking away resources for people that actually contribute to this country. IMO it’s a bit of both to blame but Canada need to step there foot down and say enough is enough, I got took advantage but not anymore. International students became easy solution/target for politicians to blame because they cannot vote. They were considered as solution of labour shortage back during Covid then there was a labour shortage. Sean Fraser the minister of immigration back then made it super easy for international students to stay in Canada permanently. When he takes the office of Minister of Housing, he starts to point fingers to those students. Who let them into this country in the first place? We need more roads more houses. IRCC needs to work faster to get more skilled workers doctors into the country. Putting a cap on current immigration level is not a good idea.

It's all good when you're a greedy landlord collecting rent, or a crooked private college collecting thousands of dollars. These are young kids who are being exploited by our country. On the other end of the spectrum, you have single occupancy residents living in multi-million dollar mansions with no declared income. We need targeted immigration strategy isolated to each province. We need provincial and municipal governments to start building affordable public housing again as they did in decades past. Expecting private developers to build housing is ridiculous. I am a son of immigrants, i am Canadian, I have a great job but I live in Vancouver. The average house in my neighbourhood is 1.7 million dollars. I think that is criminal.

Yes!!!! I was in lecture halls filled with International students, not many Canadians in some of them, that was 2009-2010. And immigration, plus International students coming in more than ever. \nMy son in law said over 50% in his classes at Queens were International students. There were big efforts to recruit more from India. \nImmigration itself, is also out of control. We need a moratorium until we can catch up with infrastructure and homes for those who piled in by the millions this past decade.

The testing and background checks for these international students need to be more thorough. \nWhen I was in university (publicly funded) four years ago doing a group project there was a guy that couldn’t write a whole sentence with proper grammar. So he didn’t do anything and we had to reflect that on the peer evaluation. Then he begged the professor to not write him up because his family had to sell lands back home to bring him here.\nThere is no way that someone could get into a Canadian university passing all the interviews and examinations without being able to speak and write with proper grammar. So he had to have cheated during the process. They are affecting the experiences of other students by not participating in group projects, and talking loudly during lectures.

I was a student I had Indian roommates who hardly spoke English. I don't blame them because they want a better life. We need to slow down immigration and international students, find other ways to boost GDP other than tuitions. If we have workers shortage, we Canadians have to get out of our couch and start working maybe 2-3 full time jobs per person on average and works 100 hrs a week (the government can help by lowering income tax and payroll tax, and increase the property tax). Nothing is free, and we can't enjoy our benefit while not working enough hours (rn we are paying with our future economy)

There needs to be a rule that Canadian educational institutions cannot have more than 1/3 of their student base being non-Canadian students. For every 2 Canadians in that school, only 1 foreign student is allowed, otherwise, that college will have to hand over all excess tuition directly to the government.

Bottom line - resuming adequate and equitable funding for post-secondary education must be front of mind while discussing the implications of lack of housing for international students. The point about cuts to public funding is underplayed and not well-contextualized in this CBC analysis - which just barrels on to band-aid fixes (like capping numbers or building more housing). The funding model itself needs to be fixed. Let's change the model from provincial to a provincial/federal hybrid funding model. And while we're at it, let's revise the funding model for healthcare. Why not do a sequel segment on that.

I have no interest in the plight of international students. I am interested in the plight of Canadians. We need better policy and direction for immigration. Canada needs immigration to be sure but lets be strategic about and do it in a way that is beneficial to Canada.

International students should be allowed to train and learn in Canada. That should not be a green light to immigration however. We need to go back to an organized immigration policy that accepts new citizens based on merit and who want to embrace Canadian culture, not erase it.

Need to stop give work permit to international students it helps froud and schame of business people. Those who came in this country for study bearing all expenses during their study period. According to Canadian census those countries people are less here in Canada bring more students then less students from more people on the there hand bring more students from rich country then south Asian country.

I used to teach and coordinate programs for international nurse, this is spot on - and I have always wondered about Canadian students getting into programs - we need Canadian students who are talented and want to study but cannot afford it. There is so much i could unpack. In general, most of the students are lovely and hard-working, but the intent in most cases is to get a PR status - so most of them stay. Many also are disappointed with Canada - as they may come from a place where they were in a different social class. I know many of my students now are productive members of Canadian society working in their chosen fields. I am proud of them - as the move was not easy and they left their families behind. Considering that most of the world is a collectivist culture versus our individualist culture of the West, there is much to adjust to. Good piece.

Immigration (especially the student visa back door) has become a lucrative business for a few people (colleges, ESL schools, universities, construction companies, realtors, etc) without thinking about the impact on all the most basic needs for Canadians. There have been record numbers of immigrants, but where are the record numbers in new housing, new hospitals, new nurses, new doctors, etc? Obviously, this is a good business for construction companies and realtors because they can maintain high prices forever and keep making money on the Canadian dream. It is time for the Canadian government, whether liberal or conservative, to stop this nonsense until the coverage of the basic needs of Canadians are covered.

They need to get rid of those consultants back in foreign countries who misguide kids to take up useless courses in those shady colleges. College/Universities needs to prequalify students before admitting them to a particular course and by that way it’s easy to filter out candidates based on the current job requirements. OK. If you think there are too many then you need to be ok with a massive increase in tuition for Canadian students. The international students help keep down the cost. The Canadian government has slowly clawed back their subsidies and is using the international to offset their decrease in subsidies.

think about it , up to 90% of the school funding come from international student. Without them , I cannot imagine if local student can afford the tuition. If schools can still hire the best professors. And how many people may loss their job. Why can’t we think of education industry just like any other pillar economic sector similar to finance, manufacturing. The only thing we need to solve is housing. As a Canadian I think we should be helping fund the Universities and Colleges and getting rid of the private colleges. We need to stop immigration completely for a while and only allow skilled immigrants in required fields. If Canadians assist in funding the Universities and Colleges then tuition will be more affordable for Canadians. I'd rather pay tax towards schools instead of something useless like carbon tax.

International students are not, many of them have parents who came to Canada first , then find volunteer work jobs like nonprofits call centres to qualify for working visa, then apply PR, here is the catch, many of those actually financially stronger than local Canadian, cash buying houses, paying high fees for their kids being international students, they compete local first time homebuyers, they don’t actually need a well paying job, they came here for Canadian IDs . These immigrants wave ? isn’t the same as decades ago who fresh off the boat had to go schools or job market to survive. Don’t blame international students, their parents came ….

Universities need ask student visas from the government. A university should only get a visa based on the percentage of native students. So UofT that has a lot of Canadian students will get approved for more Student visas than a no name college with very little Canadian students.

i have friends in their early 20s who cant get jobs and friends with well paying jobs who cant get a place of their own and have to house-share with roommates. it is disheartening seeing international students in this video complain that they cant get housing or jobs, but neither can canadians. the housing market needs to catch up to the population and demand but cant if it is outpaced unfortunately, which is the case for many other countries we are seeing making changes to immigration because of the population boom (such as the uk). some of these campuses should really consider taking those millions and investing them into campus housing if they want students so much

The housing is something the government should have seen earlier, stepped in to start creating homes itself. It is too expensive for small companies to build or they are forced to sell what they build at a small margin or lose to regular people. Most other cases they are up against giant companies like BlackRock who use houses as investment. The hands off approach of the Liberals and Conservatives has lead us to a housing shortage. We need to build housing, and it is quite apparent that private companies too small to compete or too big to bother. The government and Canadians are going to have to solve this ourselves, and build more housing.

I moved over there in 2014 with full rights as a citizen. My trade wasn't recognised. Canada has its own rules about everything. You need to have training to pour drinks in a bar wtf.! But yea I came wanting a better life and well thankfully I wound up in Calgary so eventually I had the money to leave. And come home where know having seen the Canadian shit show I'm killing it here. Real estate in Australia is expensive because the nation is highly successful and ordinary citizens are wealthy, and this includes real estate, plus with 3 billion middle class Asian's right above Australia the Asian economy dwarfs the US economy to insignificance. Job opportunities are dictated by the fields the economy needs - oil is insignificant in Australia compared to other industries. Geographic Isolation - Thank god the rest of the world is far away, as an Australian I wish it was further away. Air fares prior to pandemic were reasonable USA to Australia around $800 return - but this guy lives in Perth so to go 4-5,000km to the east coast will be expensive - on the east coast a one way ticket to another city can be had for around $50 to $80 - Again for Australians proximity to the US market is not significant we are focused on the Asian region. Natural beauty anywhere is amazing but I prefer a warm climate over a frozen one - The Canadian population is all centered around the US/Canadian border region the rest of Canada like central Australia is vastly empty. In conclusion I find many immigrants want to move from Australia to Canada is proximity to the USA but for Australians the US market or lifestyle is not attractive or important.

As a canadian i never thoughg of living anywhere else vanxouver is so beautiful. Growing up govrnmebt started cutting programs and services in schools ans public resources. And kept doing it. \n\nNow they are removinf beautiful homes to build ugly apartments no yards .\n\nThere is not enough public space. Everyone is moving to the city. We use to be able to go to the beach on a weekday in spring and there was no one. Now its packes. To get to the bathroom was almost a block long. The bathrooms are small. Goos for population we has in the early 90s. We need somethings 4x larger now. \n\nIm ok with new comers but if they create a new community in the rural areas. We have so many areas up north no one moves to.\n\nOr lots of space to build new communities up north, not deatroy the current communities that already exist. \n\nWith all the new apartments there is not enough space for cara, no parking and no room on public transportation.\n\nSimply, the city cannot support anymore people. Its unrealistic. \nI worked with a girk who shares a 1 bedroom apartment with 5 other people and she still paid 1500 a month for rent.\n\nThis will soon be like america - run down, extreme poverty & homelessness. The homelessness has gotten so extreme.\n\nWages havw increased maybe 3x since i was a kid, but pricea rose eveey year.\n\nAs a kid we paid $850 for 3 bedrooms.
