It's not wrong on the part of Cops. This is new to them . When they'll get to know that it's been going for so long , they'll consider it acceptable. After all Kirpans are even allowed at Airports in India . Everyone trust Sikhs . Sikhism shares love among all people.

Cop did the right thing. We all know that in sikh tradition male and even female wear Kirpan which is a symbol to protect yourself when you are in serious danger. But as we see in the video the guy is wearing on top of his shirt which absolutely incorrect it has to be worn inside not from outside

Sikhism originated in India and even in India, Sikh officers do not carry the Kirpan at places of security. Concealed carry is also an option.\nReligious symbols are meant for a particular purpose and when there is a law or rule that is aimed to prevent any misuse w.r.t. security then it ought to be implemented. Christianity promotes Wine but that doesn't mean schools should start allowing kids to bring wine to school.

Well Educational institutions are supposed to be impartial towards religions so don't carry that kirpan in schools or colleges ?‍♂️ After all they are foreigners if they see a knife it's a knife . They won't see it as kirpan (sikh knife)

Actually very risky... Even though bits a part of their faith.. and i know Sikhs don't harm intentionally but it's always best not to bring such things coz other psychotic kids can make use of it .. so such rituals of all kinds should be avoided bin school/colleges. Coz kids aunt mature enough.

I think kirpan isnt an essential part so it shouldnt be carried to an educational institution.. in india also, i have never seen my sikh friends carrying kirpan in schools or colleges.

But i ve never heard or seen any sikh student openly carrying knife like that to college in India . (Sorry if i'm wrong)

Whe you're in a different country, the responsibility is yours to know or find out what the laws of the land are. You cannot expect a whole nation of others to suddenly become educated about your religious practices and make way for you . If they do, that great, but it's not their responsibility. Also, having a weapon on you in an environment where others don't will put them at unease and also give you the advantage over them, in case of an altercation. How do they know if you are mentally sane or not and that you will not suddenly use it on them. Most Sikhs are wonderful and very caring people and I'm even sitting with one as I write this, but it's best we keep our religious practices to ourselves and not be in anyone's face with it, especially in a country where people are not so aware of other cultures. If he had to wear it for religious purposes, its his responsibility to have informed the university( which he may have) , but also to insist that they inform everyone else and the police of it, so as to not raise any tensions.

Being a religious person, this really pissed me off, as I respect sikhs and their belief, this was really saddening, you could really see that he felt insulted in video?

Well I am an Indian, according to me it’s the Sikh youths mistake, you just vilified your own religion by wearing kirpan because you know it is not allowed in USA yet you tried to be a hero.

To all the people sayimg that university is not a ppace to carry knives , should learn about sikhism and sikh faith. Firstly, Learn one thing that american law allows sikhs(baptised sikhs only) to wear kirpan everywhere, evem the Uk and canada have the same laws for sikhs! These things arr considered very important in sikhism , the weapons are the reason for the existence of sikhs in present times! Our religion tella us to respect weapons like food and tells us to possess the most advance weapons, not for any kind of criminal activity but for self defence, good deeds and the race of existence! And Dont forget the 2nd amendment! At last i want to ask that why all hindus are against the sikh? Are'nt hindus living in the same country as sikhs? Should'nt they be aware of sikh faith and traditions? Hindus in thia comment section are a disapointment! The problem is that often times due to religious practices, a lot of people from minority communities are targeted and have to undergo a lot of scruitiny. Sikhs are amongst the most kind and generous people in the world, apart from being brave, sure this world makes a joke out of them but it is important for people to understand that our religion is important to us, we do follow the rules and regulations laid down by the country but others too have to respect who we are and where we come from, it might seem odd to carry around a kirpan but then again that is no reason to violate someone like this, or their religion's sancitity.

The fact that it’s a small number of people doesn’t mean Islam is any less to blame. Do you see Christians, Hindus, Sikhs doing this anywhere in any number? There are obviously many in the Islamic community that tacitly support this.

Being a critical sardar myself, i can certainly say that our community is the most dangerous which comes very close to being called a terrorist outfit, because of the way we behave with outsiders or with different community people..Like we say about Islam being a terrorist supporting faith, Sikh may not support bombings, & killings but they do cause a violent protest(acts of vandalism, hooliganism fully supported by the faith itself is a total shame) in case something is said or goes against them, which is nothing but being TERRORISTS.
