Actually, blatant, overt racism is not that common in Canada and in USA; what's happening most frequently is the occurrence of cultural racism between westernized people of color and whites versus recent immigrants in Canada and the USA.

The processing times is what Canada needs to seriously look at. Once that is done, immigrants won't like to move. At point your life can just come to a halt all in the name of processing on the part of Government. To renew a work permit may take between 3 and 6 months to be done. Apply for travel document and it takes forever. PR processing is the worse as it can take up to 4 years. Too much frustrations

What exactly do those numbers mean? Immigrants per year? Total number of immigrants?

Indian here, I applied for a Canada PR and just missed the PR score cut off by a few points, I am from one of the top universities in India, have a computer science bachelors and masters in economics, I am opening my own tech startup here and would have loved to open it in Canada and drive Canada's GDP. \n\nBut you know who get the highest score for PR? Low skilled people who do fake degrees(which are so easy to get it is lame, by the way I can also do it, but it will spoil by education reputation). The immigration system of Canada is a joke, It treats all degrees, jobs and universities as equal. Best of all I was offered to pay $20k by someone to get a Canadian PR. Again I can pay that much but do I want to immigrate to a country whose citizenship is being sold this cheap?\n\nTrust me when I say it Canada is getting the most average and at times the worst people from India. Indian government though should thank Canada for taking all these low skilled people from India that send Canadian Dollars back to India. They take away the middle class jobs, housing, etc in Canada and worse for Canada send back money to India leading to pressure on Canadian currency and reserves.\n\nThe simplest solution is to halt whatever nonsense immigration policy Canada has and only allow three kinds of immigration, people who secure high paying jobs in recognised companies, entrepreneurs that get funding from investors Canadian government recognises and count university scores only from top tier universities. Finally make it super easy for these high skilled people and difficult for anyone else.

We need educated and skilled immigration which what is not happening, plus a diversity of immigrants not just from a handful of nations.

Soooo maybe yall should start with rent control where landlords are legally required to be reasonable with rent. being indian who immigrated to canada seen all kind of immigrants in from philipines,china, greece , sri lanka, hongkong, poland, uk, argentina, colombia , middleeastern and all sorts of, one thing i can confirm indians, pakistani, afganisthan all provide net negative value to canadian society . Surely there are good quality immigrants among them but majority of them are burden, but the chinese, philipino polish south american those provide net positive to society, those guys are hardworking and honest.

Canada does need lots off immigrants to stave off a demographic collapse. But immigrantion means housing issues. And it's not like the US or Europe where most of the immigrants will be on the lower-side of the skilled labor pool: the average immigrant to Canada will be better educated and have more earning potential than the average native. They're going to make more and buy better houses. That WILL cause social problems, no matter what you think of the issue.

The worst pm in our history successively destroyed the economy and immigration system. Immigration should be healthy from all community over the world, western europe africa, asia etc...then when it is balanced you don't feel lost

The GOVT WONT solve this problem because if they actually meet the 5M new houses target and the housing becomes more affordable, imagine what happens to the cost of the existing houses and the loans that go along with it! Many people have just bought houses at 3X the asking prices thinking they can sell it 5 yrs later and never actually to pay it off, all those people will be screwed and in banks will be screwed in return. This huge immigration was just to strengthen the vote bank and not really to improve the economy of the country. It's a very old political strategy and people still get fooled and vote for it. I immigrated, lived for 5 years, got my Canadian passport and left for greener pastures.

The numbers seemed cumulative but then some shrank. Overall it seems right but I don’t get what the numbers shown represent. You can’t have negative immigration.

Stop all temporary workers from everywhere. Make the law that no cash payment to anyone working in Canada. There are millions of RICH IMMIGRANTS who are not working but taking SOCIAL ASSISTANT AND DEFRAUDING THE TAX PAYER MONEY, SPECIALLY IN ONTARIO.

In Québec France is still our #1 country of origin of our immigrants. And then for the top5 we have Algérie, Maroc and Haïti. The French language unites us. But China is still #2 because of the scheer number of people that country has.

Sad to see white nationalism spreading to Canada, especially considering that unlike the US, these people immigrated legally and pay taxes. Poland has similiar housing and rental problem and it's also mostly due to uncontrolled immigration. I'm talking about more than 2 mln immigrants from Ukraine.

I bet another reason the government would rather have rentals is they usually pay twice the property taxes that homeowners do. That can amount to tens of thousands a year difference in tax revenue for each and every property on a street. Sad but true.....\nStill I have to agree with the high immigration numbers. It seems I've always had a general idea of what a Canadian looks like but the past years I'm regularly seeing people that look Chinese, Indian, African, Arab.... all kinds of ethnic looks calling themselves Canadian. Canada was founded on European immigration and culture. This is no longer. Canada is now majority Asian/East Indian and Middle Eastern culture. Canada has lost its founding culture and values. Canada is now presumed dead to those of us who remember the REAL CANADA! Sooooooooooooo Sad! We gave it away to increase political votes and more tax dollars. Canada lost it's wonderful European heritage. I dearly miss CANADA.

Indonesia is the country with the 4th largest population in the world, but immigrants from Indonesia have never entered the top 10 in any country.

They have come to BC as well, they are everywhere unfortunately. They do bring more crime with them as their culture in INdia, but they leak the problem here. This is totally unacceptable! No more immigrants.

Btw, I live in Richmond BC where we have experienced a similar spike of folks from China and Hong Kong. It's a challenge for sure but the answers lie in open, respectful communication, not overt racism. Btw, where did your grandparents come from?
