As an international student who works at 3 jobs almost 7 days a week to pay my college and rent… I can only afford a small room with a sharing washroom with 4 others. Life here so difficult and it’s very exhausting. Canada should stop advertising itself as a country of opportunities and easier life. It’s much harder than back home if we talking honestly. \nDon’t get me wrong I love a lot of things about this beautiful country, but life is way too short to work at 3 jobs to pay rent and fees until I die. ?

Housing costs are crazy here in Toronto...I lost my apt ...(740 sq. ft. - one bedroom)...which I had in Etobicoke at the end of Covid Jan. 2022 ...( My rent started at $940/month in 2016 and to just a tad over $1000/month in 2022. I Was on welfare during Covid 2020-2022)... Welfare only pays $733 for a single male (Welfare recipients weren't eligible for that CERB that paid every 2 weeks so I had to sell most of my furniture and cherished antiques to survive...Lost my apt...couldn't afford it anymore and I ended up in my sister's basement for 3 months but moved to a rooming house in the east end of Toronto at the end of April. Thank God that I got a job working in a hospital as a janitor...Still, I pay $650 a month for a room that is about 75 square feet....I've seen closets bigger...I share 4 washrooms and one laundry room with one washer and dryer and a laundry tub (This is the main source of water for cooking) with 26 other roomers...There is no kitchen and no lounge area...So yeah Housing is Fuked Up here in Toronto!... I was so close to being homeless...I do not work full-time. I am only on-call so I am at least able to make ends meet but still, it's hard surviving here in the big city...I was born here and grew up here and this city may have changed on the surface but beneath it, it's rotting to the core and it's getting worse every day!.... The rental issue because ON Premier Doug Ford removed the rent control limits back in 2018, since he has done this, any new housing, rental units, renovations that occure after 2018 the property manager can settheir price and / or is when thos renovictions started (after unit renovated and since after 2018 the landlord increases the tenant's initial rent more than what the city would set as their limit usually betwen 1 to 3 percent, But this drastically changed during and now after the pandemic years.

I'm brazilian and run a language school in my country. I've been to Toronto 3 times in exchange programs with my students. The first time, in 2012, I found the city amazing and incredibly safe. The second time, in 2018, I noticed a small change for worse in terms of security and homelesness. My last time in Toronto was this year, and I felt myself very insecure and saw things that I wasn’t accostumed to seeing not even here in Brazil. It’s a pity, because Toronto is an unique city and it has potencial to be very developed socially speaking. Unfortunately, I'm searching for alternative destinations to take my students abroad.

Not only in Canada dear brothers and sisters, here in the Netherlands housing prices and living costs are at least to say expensive. My luck is that I bought my house 10 years ago for a very good price ( 160.000 Euro's with a current mortgage of 519,00 Euro per month as the interest rate is 1,3% almost hilarious for Dutch standards today ) for a normal house with 3 bedrooms, attic, normal sized bathroom, garden, driveway for 1 car and on one side separated from my neighbor because there is a shed in between. Nothing special but now people will fight each other to get a house like mine. So conclusion: I can save some money to plan a trip to Canada next year or 2025, no delay anymore! Targeting BC and Alberta ( mountains!!!) is the plan for this trip as your country is huge at least to say. I like your vids Alina, really useful information and your relaxed style of presenting. I had to go to downtown Toronto yesterday because of a visa application. I couldn't wait to leave. Just to drive there is really stressful. Horrific traffic, closed streets, constructions, everybody is in such a hurry... I was in and out in 3 hours.

I know several people who were living in government subsidized appartements, paying less then 300/month until a year ago. 3 people with their own appartements. Dude you’re about to have the shock of your life!! All the points you mentioned here pretty much are a copy paste in Canada, cherry on the top is crappy weather. If the points you mentioned in your video are actually your concerns then you either need to look for opportunities in the UK or USA. You’ll find yourself where you are currently in 2 years in Canada as well and then you’ll be making another video about moving to US or UK. I kind of understand this as I now personally know 3 people who’ve done the same journey i.e. move from Australia to Canada or vice versa. In any case good luck!

The best way to do this as an immigrant is basically live like a pauper and use that exchange rate to invest at home. Don't live a comfortable life in the West. That's how people are making it work, because the work culture is toxic over there and strenuous. If you don't have a high flying job, you have to work 2 to 3 jobs and rack up overtime when they allow it to make good money to invest over there and at home.

I recommend working in UAE ?? it’s near to India and commuting to India is just 3 hours and very affordable travel. Income is tax free and economy is amazing.

The medical treatment and facility is much better now in India. You can go to any specialist on one or two days prior appointment. While it takes weeks or some times 3 to 4 months to get to see a specialist in western country. And majority of doctors in western countries are Indians. Over all today's India quality of life and ease of living is much better than earlier years when people use to migrate to Canada ,UK or USA.

This is an interesting overview of Canada and its many issues. I would love to see a follow up video or two looking into these same issues but from a few different perspectives. 1) regionally - Canada is very diverse so our regions are quite different in culture, problems and cause of each. The major regions are: Maritimes/Ontario/Quebec/Prairies/West Coast/ Territories. 2) because of our diverse landscape different races are attracted to different areas. I have not studied this impact on our racism and political issues but would love to see someone like you do so. It appears to me that immigrants are disproportionately gathered along the US/Canada border and big cities, particularly east and west coast. First Nations are disproportionately populated in Rural and northern areas where resources overall are less available to all races. I would expect to find that this population disbursement would also reflect in our political leadership. For example more populated cities are far more likely to have immigrant own businesses and politicians, In rural and northern communities politicians are more likely to be white because First Nations politicians would be more inclined to work within the First Nations political channels where they can actually do more good for their communities. 3) The diversity that makes up 'white' as a race. It appears to me that Canada historically has been more inclined to attract 'White' races versus other 'colours'. We have large populations of British, Swedish, Irish, Russian, Ukrainian, French, Norwegian, and Polish to name a few. All of which have large diversity in their culture and history but are often classified as 'white'. 4) The massive impact the past 5 + years of politics and world affairs have had on the divisions within Canada. Personally I see and feel far, far more judgements between races, economics and regions than ever before.
