This issue is prevalent in many countries with high immigration rates, like England and Australia, where housing costs can consume a significant portion of one's salary. Im about to move from the USA to Canada, my type of visa here denies me to have a stable normal life for many reasons, also many of the issues that canadians face are the same than americans does, I belive if you try to live in Vancouver or Toronto you can not expect to save a lots of money, Im moving to a Rural very turistic area, I will have employee housing and I belive ill be able to survive and save money, not like here ofc, but I will have a more stable life in many different aspects, Im a chef so for me its normal to work long shifts which provides me of food most of the time. Regardless of what that was intended for, it looks like a knife and can be used as one. If i was there wearing that i would have been arrested also. I would need a special permit to wear that where i live an work, but it would bot be allowed in scholls or govermnent buildings because it can be used as a weapon, by its owner or someone else. I lived in Toronto, Hamilton, and St.John's in the 90s. Canada was a strong country back then, and government was fair and hardworking. We all could see Canada growing into one well developed country some day. And then in the 2010s I went back to visit twice, many once crowded places in downtown Toronto and vancouver were deserted. Shops closed. Beggars everywhere even in cold winter days. People are still very polite, but I could see the hopelessness in their eyes. Like everyone is too busy to care for others because they have trouble looking after themselves too. \n\nI cry for you Canada.

I think most Asians are leaving Canada. I'm Asian and I'm about to leave after 16 years here, my classmates back in college left already with their parents... My parents left too. I just have to sell my condo and I'll be gone. Canada is just too expensive, the pay is SHT, and it's too cold, it doesn't make sense to live here, like I have lived in Southeast Asia and I think it's much better especially if you start a business. Also China is growing, it's both a great market and a source of goods, ASEAN is rapidly growing especially in the tech sector, South Korea is dynamic as ever, and Japan is begging for immigrants now and they have preference for Asians like how Canada has preference for members of the Commonwealth.

The longer you live in canada and pay taxes the more you should be rewarded, but like cell phone companies the liberals treat new citizens and refugees better than veterans and born Canadian, so if immigrants think it's bad imagine if you were born here and the mass immigration just made it ten times worse.

I lived downtown Toronto from 2002-2011. The footage you have is near my old neighbourhood -- Dundas and Sherbourne, Allen Gardens, etc. Those were sketchy areas back then, but at least the parks weren't full of tents. I definitely wouldn't live in Toronto now. Much better places elsewhere in the world. Am in Melbourne, Australia now and while housing is expensive, we don't have the open drug use and poverty everywhere like Toronto.

Well I will tell you that I am an immigrant with Canadian citizenship, I have been living in Canada for almost 12 years, and I have decided to leave Canada to live permanently in my home country Peru. The reasons why I will leave Canada are mainly the extremely high cost of life (the rent mainly) I have lived in Toronto for almost 7 years and until now I am renting rooms because it's the only space I can afford with my current salary. The other reason is the health care service, as the lady in the video mentioned, I have been in the waiting list for 2 years to see an specialist and until now nothing. I got used to the weather, the people, the snow, I have my own car but it's sucking me almost CAD$1000 per month among monthly payments, gasoline and insurance. While in Lima Peru the cost of life is almost a third part of what it's here. The food is cheap and the quality is high (everything is organic in Peru). I will keep my Canadian job and work remotely from Lima and I will live like a king¡¡¡¡¡, I miss the food, the beaches, the amazing social life and with my Canadian passport I will be able to travel anywhere in the world once a year ..... now that's what I call living the life .... I am so excited¡¡¡

I believe Canadian citizenship should require a minimum residency of at least five years to deter those seeking only a passport. While Canada is a great place to live and work not the best like USA, it isnt a good as it was and definitely not the best for retirement compared to countries like Mexico.

I can't stand this place and especially people! It's sooo dreadful, if I spoke truthfully the comment would get auto deleted. So since it turned out to be the polar opposite of the propaganda and how Canadians talk about themselves to the world (and the type of immigrants who fled poverty and had absolutely nothing back home and for whom Canada is actually an upgrade of sorts), I'll just use Canada as a stepping stone to get back to the US where I studied and got all my degrees and the place was infinitely better than Canada in almost every area. And there people are actually normal, like they'll talk to you, invite you to their home or to go out, make sure you aren't alone for Thanksgiving, etc. In Canada there's none of that, you're on your own! To me living in Canada is a nightmare!

Nice content, loved your English. As an immigrant myself and being Asian living in Canada, I literally didn’t have any big dreams when I decided to move to Canada. But only expectation I had was people would be more friendly, educated and so on, and I didn’t noticed that much about(i won’t like to call it racism) but the way local see and behave the other different countries people but now after living here for couple of years I can so easily see how the local treat you, behave you. That’s my biggest disappointment. It might be just my prospective or the phase that im going through and so on. But just wanted to share. Again i know I’m not the first or only person who felt it. Actually Canada should first allow immigration from like minded countries and they must be fluent in English. The cost of immigration shouldn't be on local taxe payer's mostly because most people are living paycheck to paycheck. Just remember that the more there are people in any city the cost of housing will go up there are many issues that we should be talking about but most people who speak up are automatically called racist in order to shut them up. My neighborhood had a big influx of immigrants moving in and I can see the difference they brought, they never cut grass, leave garbage out on lawn, they use the creeks as their own waste dump they give off looks at you like you're a problem in your own country, they stare in a very creepy manor at women, I had one stand at the end of my driveway and film my house, like just weird shit all the time. I had a conversation with my Uber driver last week, he was a immigrant from the middle east himself, we were both upset about people coming over here and not integrating into Canadian culture and society. He said he came here so his children could grow up in peace and prosperity, but every day he sees people trying to make Canada more like the place he left.? It's not just the exorbitant cost of living . When you come from places like Pakistan or Bangladesh Canada can seem like paradise , but if you come from Europe you discover that the tedious, monotonous way of life , where the only outlet is to get high on alcohol or drugs is not for you. Canada is tundra region. Historically humans never lived in masses above tropics mean humans are not biologically conditioned to live in that region. All pure or majority Anglo Saxon nation like UK, Canada, Australia and NZ have high property prices by design as it gives false sense of prosperity among service class if export is not huge. Canada and Australia has resources but what Australia has is good weather compared to Canada which is not really suitable for humans. To live in such conditions humans need to earn much in excess of what rest of the world earns else new immigrants will ditch Canada for other comfortable places to immigrate to.

What do you expect when you increase people’s mortgages to double figures like literally 220%? Even a lot of my sensible family friends who are recent immigrants, who are well-educated and well paid are looking to move because even with family income of 300000 one can’t afford a detached home and crazy expenses like groceries, utilities, scammed insurances, dubious healthcare, unnecessary taxes. Rather move back home, have a house maid for cleaning, cooking, ad driver for your car and can expect better social lives with families and friends, get decent increments every year just have to put up with the crazy traffic, pollution.. At least you will live a decent life and not make Canada Govt and its banks richer!!!
