I grew up in downtown Toronto. I left around the time you had come and it was wonderful and I missed it so much. I absolutely cannot believe what it has become. It's not the same at all. I was proud to be Canadian for the longest time, but ever since 2020 and the way all the provincial governments fell in line with the Trudeau government, and locked down the entire country. Everything cycles from better to worse, then from worse to better again. Remembering Toronto in the mid-80s, when I was a teenager, it feels to me as though the city was in much worse shape back then. Or maybe it just felt that way because about 50% of the downtown real-estate footprint was taken up by parking lots. Such a wasteland.

I visited Quebec City and Montreal in 2009 for 2 weeks. It was absolutely lovely. I visited the same cities last September, my romantic notion dissipated. Especially Montreal, so many homeless looking young people on skateboards. I don’t think it’s trendy to wear baggy all black that reeked of BO. Price tag for everything is high, higher than my Los Angeles suburb to be honest. Most ppl are just making ok income, not high earning top tier professionals. How do ppl keep a roof and food on table? Plus transportation and insurance.

People have to stop using rental prices in cities like Toronto and Vancouver. That's like Americans using rental costs in Bel-Air California or Manhattan as an example of what rent costs in America. It's not a realistic portrayal of rental costs. \nHere in Quebec the the annual tax rate is between 26.53% and 53.31%, depending on income. Then you have to consider all the socialist programs that you are forced to pay into, which also sucks up a significant amount on your weekly salary. After that, you must consider that you pay 15% sales tax on almost everything. It's safe to say that half of your yearly earnings, give or take, are taken in taxes and socialized programs. As for salaries, less than 20% of the Canadian population make a 6 figure salary. We're not talking about household income. I am talking about individual income. You're not going to become rich here in Canada! The majority of people who do become rich leave Canada to avoid taxation. Canadians live a life of debt. You will live just balancing your debt to make sure it doesn't get out of control Few Canadians have money in savings without debt. The ones who do have money saved, most of them have debts on top of their savings which is counterproductive in my opinion.

If you didnt realise Canada is a Christian country then yes when everything about you is at odds with the country you live in then you would be best to feck off to where you are better appreciated as you obviously prefer backward countries

Idk how everyone seems to be confused why we have so much homelessness. Israels national investment firm called black rock has been buying up American housing for years. They were very outspoken about their plans to buy everything, and hold onto it indefinitely while renting it out for very high rates. Every politician has bought 50 or more homes to do this with as well. Tucker carlson has a load of them, as well as every other tv personality. People from other countries stay 10 people per home, and collectively can afford much higher rates than americans living 1 family to a home, again driving rates ever higher. Government is soley responsible for the dollar becoming worthless so quickly. Wages will never keep up. The government makes more money by cramming as many people as possible into the country, directly at the expense of quality of life for the citizens. Nobody is protecting the interests of American citizens. We are all getting robbed blind by predators while we all appear to be blind deaf and dumb. Nothing happening is an accident. Every loser creates a winner somewhere.

i was talking with a coworker today who had a good job in brazil , farm , house etc . he sold everything he had to bring his family to canada . now he dosent own in canada and has no savings driving an old vehicle that barely runs . i’m just like why are people like this struggling so much in a country that once was easy to find jobs and make good money ? my advice is if your doing good where you are don’t think the grass is greener on the other side .

This is a very thoughtful and balanced review. As a retired Canadian who had a good job for most of my life, I'm saddened by the decline in almost all areas of life, lifestyle and and people's aspirations in this country. This decline actually seems quite rapid, I would say from 2015 onwards. Housing in major centres was expensive, but it has skyrocketed in the past decade. There has been a decline in many institutions: 1. health-care, especially noticeable since the pandemic that coincided with many boomer medical staff retiring, but also by our sclerotic institutions refusing to enable foreign-trained doctors to work here. Many foreign-trained doctors in the Vancouver area are doing jobs way below their qualifications while many people cannot even get a family doctor. Crazy. Econonically, there seems to have been no plan at all from the government as we exited the pandemic. At least the US had a plan, to 'build back better'. Our government just floats along as if everything is fine, when the decline is very visible especially to older Canadians. We have admitted 1/2 a million people a year from overseas, so our economy should reflect this and show an upswing. But no, we're in a 'technical recession' as of December and probably a real recession as of last week. I have never voted Conservative in my life, but Trudeau is a flaky dimwit with a famous name who has no clue what he is doing. A fool, in fact. He's mismanaged our foreign relations beyond belief, and nothing has improved domestically. When Pierre Poilievre says 'Canada is broken', I believe it. Many of your numbers are wrong sweetie. Here are the facts;\n2 years ago, you would go to IGA (where food is fresh but it is pricey), you would get out with 2 bags of groceries for about 120$. Today, it is 180$ for the same 2 bags. this is NOT a 10% increase... but almost the double in price!\n\nRent, in Quebec province, have gone from around 1,000$ to 2,400$ in less than 5 years, and each time a tennant leave his place, the landlord rise (against the law but nobody can do anything) the rent often by 25 to 40%!!! The Demand is so high, that he can refuse you for any reason (including racism, children, pet, smokers) he can think of. Again, this is against the common law but in truth, there is nothing anybody can do, unless you can bring him to court, which takes lots of money...\n\nSo in reality, from the last 5 years, almost everything has double in price and salaries have barely start to rise (mostly due to unions who revolted) but if you are not part of one, your salary basically stayed the same.\n\nA very good advice, don't come to Canada. There is no 'dream' here anymore. it is hell. And even if you find a decent job, you will be ask to do the job of 4 peoples and taking your vacation will be near impossible without losing it. If you are not dying in your country, don't come here. I knew some people that came here from France, and although the situation is bad in France, it is still easier to live in France than here and so, they returned.\n\nWe are called a social-communist country by US standard, but the truth is, we have never been so far away from it. You could leave your bike outside in front of any store nobody would steal it. Apartments were affordable, and even working on a min. wage job you could survive. After P.E. Trudeau was voted into the national government , everything started to go down in general, and this reflected in the city of Toronto too. In the past 20-25 years it is in a total downward spiral. TTC is now dangerous to use. The city government is anti-car, putting in stupid bike lanes everywhere, chocking traffic, cutting off parking, a four way stop signs on every corner of the streets, and the worst the Police do not enforce traffic violations. If I could afford it I would move from Toronto, but truly to where? Hamilton, Guelph, Kitchener, London, Windsor? Nah, not much cheaper... Perhaps another country? Sure Dubai, Switzerland sounds good if I would be a millionaire!

Canada's has a very poor healthcare system. If your a politician orrich you can find afford the best of the best in everything, however the restof us can't afford a modest home to live in or affordable healthy food. And forget about a family doctor, the clinic that you stand inline for will write a prescription for some symptoms, but not treat root causes or referre to specialists. Now we have MAID, medically assisted death, if you end up with something serious or a cancer mental illness etc. the Gov't just wants to get rid of us, especially if your a senior. We get dental care if your 87 yrs old.

I lived in Toronto with my wife between Oct. 2021 and Oct. 2023. Despite earning six figures as a software developer plus my wife earning more or less the minimum wage and despite being very lucky to have a ridiculously low (for Toronto) rent of $1350 for a 2-bedroom apartment we decided to move back to Poland. We wanted to stay in Canada for longer, but with everything around being so expensive we weren't able to get a similar standard of living that we can easily afford in Europe. The fact that we didn't feel particularly safe in the city didn't help.

Singapore is the top country I want to move to from Canada, but you did it in reverse. \n\nThe wokeness, crime rates, homelessness, hate crimes, taxes and just the inflated prices of everything are the main reasons to get out of Canada. It doesn't matter what party is in control, this mess will not be clean up for a long long time (and I doubt any party wants to clean it up... more like make it worse). Canada also feels like it's not a democracy anymore. Just try to speak up against this wokeness and you'll get call whatever phobia. Just look at those one sided CBC articles.

heath care is horriable. there are to many people and the healtcare cant take care of so many people thats also a problem if you want to bring people in also make sure your healthcare is in order the hole country is going the wrong driction usa is lot better more pay, lower taxes, more carrer opptunites affordable houseing.. My wife and I used to live in Toronto. We moved to the United States in 2018. We've literally saved more money in the 5 years we've lived in the U.S. than our entire lives in Canada. Everything in Canada is way too expensive, taxes are heaped upon taxes, and the price is inflated even more. Toronto is even more crazy than the rest of Canada in terms of expenses. There is no way young people will ever be able to afford a home or save for retirement.
