An important factor as always been for me the different of murders, mugging, rapes, theft, people killed by firearms each year up to 38 000 a year in the US, add other types of weapons, and many more. In Canada we have clean water, lakes everywhere, we have so much more good timber for building, land for farming etc. The cost of health care in the US and schools can easily ruin them, their parents and families. Canada health care is mostly free for everyone, although seemed slow by many, but is it slow or are they worried to see a doctor to realize nothing is wrong with them ?? Going to see a doctor for a cold, a bad night sleep etc are not really worth a doctors time or theirs. The social experiment with the girl raising money for Syrian refugees..I’d like to see them try it with an Indigenous 1st nations person and see how many people step in? Here in Northern Minnesota a very rural area yes we indigenous get that same treatment,from highschool staff favoring non matches to store employees following us around. I honestly think if they social experiment of people stepping in in an indigenous scenario I think the results would be much different. Sad racism is still so prevalent in 2023?. Great video, and 100% true. More than anything my frustration is with hiring and for some reason why people think we are completely dumb !! Having said that I will give it some more time as I have only been here for 4 years. For most of you coming for Europe this maybe a mediocre experience, coming from my country in the state it’s in Canada is still miles ahead. Nova Scotia has many plusses, but it also has gigantic minuses too. Apartment rental prices in Halifax are as high as those in Toronto and rents in smaller towns are also very high- especially in relation to salaries. Nova Scotia has the highest provincial taxes in Canada but with very little to show for it. Around 100,000 Nova Scotians do not have a doctor at the moment and the list is growing not decreasing. Public schools are overcrowded and have very high class sizes- Nova Scotia teachers are the lowest paid in the country. If NS has the best schools in the country, then Canada is in big trouble. Yes, the province did have less violent crime than Ontario or Quebec (property crime has always been around the national average), but that is changing with the increase of 'new comers' in our cities. Fights/Assaults have always been a part of life here, but stabbings used to be non-existent. Now they are common place in our province. Just keepin' in real. It is still a pretty place, but perhaps it is better to visit than to live here.

One day, the univ admin where I was working, called prince sattam univ, decided to suspend the annual increment for non-Saudis because the univ was going thru economic hardships. Saudi employees' salaries weren't affected by the economic hardship, but the foreigners did not have rights, so only they had to foot the tab! Sure enough, I resigned. Many other foreigners chose to stay, unfortunately. Maybe they had to; they had families and financial liabilities probably.

I've lived in Vancouver, Toronto, and Saskatchewan, and I have visited Quebec and Alberta. In my opinion, Vancouver is best. I mean, it's a huge multi cultural seaport city. You get both of two worlds - the resources of a big city and amazing scenic nature. I find that priceless. Quebec, on the other hand, has a lot of great things to offer, but only if you're fluent in French. My visit to Quebec wasn't great. Many people ignored me for speaking English at stores, and so I felt the people were kind of rude to non French speakers. \nI don't have much to say about Saskatchewan, other than it being cold and ugly.

as a Canadian of colour, I was a bit nervous about two non-visible minorities talking about racism, but you two were bang on. Good job on the video as a whole! It's very accurate. By the way, I actually haven't lived in Canada myself for about a decade now. Also - my mother was a doctor in her country, but wasn't allowed to practice medicine in Canada for almost her whole career, despite us desperately needing qualified doctors. It's just crazy. So many doctors immigrate to Canada, and yet they're not allowed to practice. They should at least allow doctors who have studied abroad to write a qualifying test to practice medicine so everyone can benefit. But most medical associations are very protective of their professional turf.

You're not correct about the Quebec government banning the hijab - actually they ban all forms of religious expression in clothes worn at work by public servants - so don't criticize us unless you get the facts straight. All countries are facing public health crisis especially in the aftermath of a global pandemic, you mention how long it could take to get an MRI - weeks/months, but it's no worse than in the UK, or other western countries. I do agree with you about limited competition in banking and tech - but we're still a young and growing country, however, look at the global recession that took place in 2007 - Canada was least affected by mortgage default, the US was hit the worst and hundreds of thousands had their homes foreclosed by the Banks, yet in Canada because of our strict banking policies we were saved and the Banks worked with defaulters to try to keep their homes. Taxes, well most countries require you to file your own taxes at the end of the year - what's so strange about that? Yes sales tax is added onto the sales price depending on what province and what you are purchasing, same as US, just because it's not the same in Europe doesn't mean it's worse! Listen, when you're a newcomer to any country you need to fit in when looking for a job, put in the effort, take the time, do the work, any country is going to expect you to be able to speak the language and know the lingo, so I don't agree with your analysis that Canadians are risk adverse! You are 100% correct about the housing crisis, listen it's been going on everywhere for decades, and international investors in the past 10 years or so woke up and noticed that Canada was a great bet for investment, so the problem got really bad. The government just passed a 2 year moratorium on non Canadians buying real estate - as have many other countries, so fingers crossed no more new foreign landlords just regular Canadians buying their first homes, let's hope so!! I've lived many years in Europe - and I loved it! But the quality of life in Canada is better. If you don't live in the crowded city you can have a nice property with lots of space, good roads, not bad school system, very friendly and helpful people. Well, if u don't get into an actual university, \nUofT, Waterloo, McMaster etc...\nDont go to international private college.. its a scam. What I see in Canada is that lots of people have an employee mentality. Many of them make a good income, but they spend their money on stupid things, like nice cars, expensive phones, fancy restaurants, trips, etc. How can they expect to build wealth if they basically flush their hard-earned money down the toilet? It's true that housing and food are expensive in Canada, but that's basically all you need to live. I am from Pakistan. Studied and lived in USA for over 10 years. Don't know where my time has gone so fast. Life is very busy in usa (I lived in Chicago, Denver, Orange County, CA and LA. People have to work two jobs to ends meet. Most people have to share housing...that really sucks. Constant expense (rent or mortgage payments are so high people have to constantly work. Whatever time people get they run chores and stay home and chill. You see ultra rich or people on welfare having fun at the beach. I have had a very close friend from pakistan came to usa same time as I did. we both never had enough time to meet up on regular basis. even when we met we had so many things in back of our minds running. I had couple of girlfriends (of course at different times) but they had other boyfriends at the same time. And number one thing they had on their mind is was get money from you. What you wear and drive is what you are. People consider you obsolete if you wear non branded shoes or older models of branded shoes. I traveled extensively in the US and Canada. But in East Europe like Romania and Poland I found people very friendly. Now I am back in pakistan facing basic problems like traffic jams, noisy honking streets and so on but for some reason i feel worriless and relax. whenever i go out, people start to talk to you and you feel like home. everyone is super friendly and is available for help. however you cant really trust people with money though. hahahha. After living in USA for so long I do really miss many things about it though. the efficient system is definitely a big plus. and i have realized that some times i like being all alone for extensive period of times. but knowing that i can meet up anyone any time gives me peace of mind. i have realized hard way that man made martials can amuse you to some extent only. you need live beings are you.

I would dispute the cost of living argument putting Quebec at #1. I'm from there, and in Quebec, you have extremely high tax rates, almost no social services (since the health care system started imploding in the 90s and has the only such system in Canada that is almost completely non-transportable across provinces as Quebec refuses to pay anyone else or delays payment for so long, other provinces give up). Daycare workers don't even make minimum wage, the education system is heavily politicized and extremely poor (far too many teachers who couldn't care less about their students and do little work), rents are quite high in most cities, especially when you couple them with the high tax rates and the infrastructure is among the worst in North America. There are good points about Quebec, but I put it about on par with Montana or Alabama for what it offers the population, compared to costs. And then there's the wonderfully racist and nationalist government that feels it's a crime to wear a scarf.

To me, the problem is threefold. a) Toronto and Ontario in general - and perhaps the whole of Canada - are accepting way more immigrants than they have quality jobs for. If you need taxi drivers and plumbers, maybe this experience should be valued way higher than education as part of the existing immigration programs (which is not the case). That coupled with a lot of Asian money being laundered in Canada through immigration channels and private equity firms buying whole apartment blocks for rental purposes has led to the highest housing price increase in all of the developed world in the past 20 years or so. The median price of a condo in Toronto is higher than in New York despite the massive gap in salaries and the fact that New York is one of the most expensive cities in the world to begin with. Some draconian measures are needed here to prevent foreign - or even out-of-province ownership -, second property ownership and corporate ownership for renting purposes.

I know it won’t be easy but, Toronto has a lot of resources for immigrants and even undocumented immigrants. I worked for a shelter and although it was the only one that takes undocumented families, you learn there are resources out there. \nIt’s about aligning yourself with the right community support Center, finding the people who will fight for you. There are so many people here who welcome and want to help all types of immigrants. No matter your background.\nThe people who work helping these communities they are ruthless in their fight for citizenship, or at least finding you a job and home, they will guide you through the system. Social workers, ones in community resource centres, not government centres, will be your best friend. They know where the red tape is and the resources available to you. \nYou could even go to a specific shelter to t all out your options and where you could go to get help.\nI understand this is not ideal. \nBut, if you want to be here, your best friends are non-profits, finding a center that aligns with your story, your background, because they will fight for you. We have people here from every country and resource centres geared towards your own language, religion etc.\nAnother big way to set yourself up for success. Churches, rich churches to be specific. \nMy mom works in a very rich church and it helps them feel better about themselves helping people, you could be nice enough to alleviate their guilt through their wallets, and connections. Under the table work, shelter, space for your family, set you up, they might even have the lawyers you need pro Bono in those rich churches. Church shopping, do not be above it if you don’t have resources. You don’t just get help, you build a community and support system through a common bond, the church. \nI know these aren’t revolutionary tips, but without specifics of your background it’s hard (for me specifically) to give specific advice online as to what services could be provided for you.\nIt’s kind of like a doctors appointment. You need background info to diagnose the resources for you and how to access that help.

Canadian immigration sucks. There is no control. I came as an immigrant and I witnessed many heart wrenching situations. Ghost immigrants and non resident Canadian citizens living in India, Dubai, Russia, Lebanon, USA, Israel, Turkey, HongKong etc. They barely lived in Canada, yet they have same rights like us, take child support subsidies, welfare, CPP, Old Age while we bust our a....s in the cold to pay taxes and build the Canadian system. Wake up.

Canada has been getting rich off all the Chinese immigrants for year's. Starting with Expo and the man that everyone loves Jim Pattison. Do your research. The growing Chinese population is rising and molding Canada to be a new version of China. The problem is that it's happening everywhere and the new problem is that it's become easier to play and flash the overused racist/discriminative card. If the government does not act now and recognize their manifestation of this major problem that is shifting Canada's true values and this will grow out of hand and it will be to late. Many Canadian's are already feeling the rage and soon someone's rage will explode causing a ripple. There has to be a conversation and although it appears it would be a late of a game play it still needs to be addressed and stop sweeping under rug. Canada is known for it's non confrontational image but someone will shake it up and it might be to late by then for the government to step in and of course not be accountable. They get a lot of money each year from the demographics and don't want to do much about the growing explosive problem. Housing is a key problem and the Chinese population has gravely diminished Canadian born lives and their families. Yes understandably their are many born Chinese immigrants but we are discussing the new blood with deceptive intentions.

I don’t think anybody of non colour or visible minority would ever understand how racism is prevalent. Which I do understand. In my opinion Canada is a much more accepting than many other western countries and systemic racism is less prevalent. As a Muslim man I feel pretty lucky but my mom has many stories of suspected race based descions by people in power whether be an officer, judge or store clerk. I am sure not all of them were, however definitely some were.

In Canada there will be low key racism and I have been called the world n- word many times in Toronto but only by Latino Americans, twice by a Mexican in my school, once by Peru guy then by a russian and a vietnamese. But never by a Canadian. In Toronto you will likely face more racism because it's multi cultural than any other city. But you will face racism by people who are non Canadian but more from other countries that have not accepted different races.

Our healthcare is not free in the true sense of the word.....the taxes collected from our income......income tax percentages vary by low, mid, and high incomes which covers many things including most basic healthcare costs.\nThings like doctors visits, most non-consmetic surgeries, most diagnostics, lab tests, birth, etc.\nPsychologists, dentists, physical therapists and others are not covered.\nPrescriptions are not covered and is dependent on the various benefits covered by employers.\nOur income tax, sales tax, property tax covers a multitude of things, such as infrastructure, basic schooling and government services.

Due to too many unhappy citizens of many lands, most productive, constructive countries are over- flooding with other nations peoples. It’s too much. When a person goes somewhere other than their own land less and less of these countries are willing to allow any more refugees in their country. Why because it’s about economics. In economic in an economy all things must be paid for. This is an Democratic society, almost all things are available through businesses. The medium of exchange for all ‘goods and services ‘ are conducted through the means of money. The masses of our nations people are not wealthy. Which most indulge themselves in employment. Employment in exchange for hours of pay we get paid.!The person most quailed to be employed are the citizens of these nations and not other nations people. What I am saying is that each land is more interested in their own home grown employee. So when you the non resident come without our permission you are the one placing yourself and your family in peril. Which means you are responsible for the pain and losses you suffer do to you either misunderstandings or non-available knowledge. Work towards asking for a better government for your own home land. And less people will be disappointed when you are rejected from lands who are already too filled !

The presenters seems to be a bit biased thinking that all Syrians are muslims, when in fact many Syrian Arabs are Christians, and they’re the true refugees! At one time Syria also had a thriving Jewish community as well! Arab Muslims are by and large a big issue as well as other Muslims, they need tougher scrutiny than non Muslim Arabs. White Canadians have mastered the art of racial discrimination while appearing very inclusive and accepting. .....sorry the apartment is already rented is a normal response for the non white prospective renter. The position is already filled ....to the person with the different accent or non European name. Being followed around the store is standard practice..... Shoppers drug mart , Jean Coutou , Best Buy, Bulk Barn , I mean Bulk Barn , with tons of bulk in bins. At the Royal Vic ....a public hospital in Montreal , the non white patient is made to wait for hours as his file for some reason is placed at the bottom of the pile . At a Club in Montreal the non white guy is told that he cannot enter because of his running shoes. His white friends reports later that running shoes were on display at this watering hole. And then there is the not so subtle case of Ketchup squirted on the head of this visible minority kid who was having a beer and minding his own business. I am the person in question . I am non white and I hold a PhD from Mc Gill . I encountered these experiences as a foreign student in 1982. I visited Ottawa last month 2019 .....you guessed it , Bulk barn at Billings bridge profiled me as a danger to the corn flakes bin. Canada is a wonderful country in many respects but it has a side which whites will not normally see because of the pervasiveness of white privileged.

Moving to Vancouver was a great experience tbh, I'm of nigerian heritage but was born in Finchley, North London...\nCanadians are friendly and extremely welcoming ( Coming from the UK i found this so off-putting ) lol.
