Reports indicate that since 2017, the college has enrolled nearly 2,000 international students, with approximately 96% originating from India. Recent Growth Trends (2022–2026) While the official 2026 Census data is not yet available, current local indicators point to a sustained increase in the Indian community: Rebounding Population: Mayor Michelle Boileau noted in 2024 that Timmins' population has reached its highest levels in over a decade due to immigration and industry opportunities. Newcomers: Since 2021, over 700 newcomers have arrived in Timmins through programs like the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). Cultural Infrastructure: The growth of the community led to the establishment of the city's first Sikh temple to serve the expanding Sikh and Indian resident base. Note that "North American Indian" refers specifically to Indigenous First Nations people, of which there were approximately 2,640 in Timmins as of 2021. No offence to the amazing Indian people, as a Canadian I find the majority very helpful and good for our country. However, things changed 2015- onwards- there are large scam companies now that bring unqualified people by taking money from them and creating fake student permits for them. The issue with that is that these people are OK with subpar living standards and offer their services for less than minimum wage and this creates a shadow/ cash-based economy where taxes go unreported and quality of life does not improve. This is not good for anyone- not the Canadians and older immigrants who lose jobs to these people and must pay higher taxes to maintain the infrastructure needed for a larger population. Not to mention how these new immigrants are a bit uncultured and almost like the "red-necks" of India- they throw garbage around, do not learn English, never make friendships with other races/ethnicities.

If a 3000 sq ft home has 3 generations living then that would easily be anywhere from 5-12 people depending on the number of children or sibling the earning member(s) have. Respect to the indian man who came as an RN and understood the problems with not working hard. Lot of people....the original citizens feel the burn since the world around them is changing. It's natural that they harbor these ill feelings. Most of them are ill informed and have these racist views. It's true for every immigrant community that emigrated from Europe as well. You have Irish immigrant towns, little Italy's, China towns, little India's, polish neighborhoods in Chicago etc ...these kind of neighborhoods are all over north America (USA & Canada). This is natural. Assimilation happens in 1 or 2 generations. Economic expansion and fulfilling social security benefits for the older generation needs population growth and a new younger workforce. This is achieved thru immigration of skilled labor force of all kinds. Population dynamics and demographics keep changing all the time and it has happened thru out human history. Now we are living in an interconnected and inter dependent world. It's better to adapt to change and move on and retain your loyalty to the country they migrated to and contribute positively to their economy and try to assimilate as much as possible and be aware of the sensitivities. This new immigration is from Asia and they are of different ethnicities and cultural background unlike european immigration that happened earlier. So some backlash to these new people's is to be expected and there will be lot of scapegoating and stereotypical epithets that will employed to demonize the new immigrant groups. We all have to adjust assimilate and move on in this great circle of life.

For Canadians:- Improve your immigration policy, how the heck are you allowing so many people in a short amount of time? And what's that college scam, Some people from your country make fake Universities, contact people from abroad and make them come in Canada, then they take their money as fees and then flash! No such college existed. And foreign people are trapped there. Also, hire qualified people with degrees like the USA does. Indians are living in USA too, but it's not such a big problem in USA BCOS of their policies. Not everyone is wrong,but make sure to punish the wrong one's. Imply tough rules on cleanliness and job hirings. Instead of banning people from these countries, imply strict regulations on them. Am a christian from India, who had a PR back in 2013 and had traveled there for the paperwork. I traveled around Toronto for around 15 days and it was a lovely experience back then. All but the Indians I encountered treated me well, to the indians I was another competition for their piece of land (so as to say). I unfortunately didn't settle in Canada due to some family emergency and had to come back to India for good, but on hind sight I think it was for the best, considering how bad the situation is in Canada. If one migrates to another country they should assimilate in the existing culture so that they can keep alive the very soul of the land they moved to, not try to make it another India...

As an Indian living in India, I’d say it was your country’s government’s problem and mistake, similar to what the UK is doing now. Aside from government or policies, Indians immigrating to Canada is something that dates back to the British era, when Britain sent a group of Indians, specifically Sikhs, for security or labor work in Canada. This started the trend of Sikhs (turban-wearing ones) moving there. In modern times, the West was richer in terms of education and infra compared to Asia, which attracted many normal students and families immigrants also. Canada and America were built by immigrants, but now things are saturated, which I understand, and that’s where the resentment comes from. The majority Sikh state ( punjab) in India is still behind in development and job wise cooperation, and the historical pattern from the British era of moving to Canada for a better life has become a norm for many young people there. The close, collaborative nature of Sikhs—like a cousin in Canada inviting another cousin from India to come over, open a shop, work together, or share housing—is another reason many don’t hesitate to immigrate. These are some of the reasons behind mass immigration from India. Now, with saturation, the resentment toward immigration has grown. India itself faces issues with immigrants who live off our taxes, take rights meant for native children, and abuse policies, laws, or the environment. At least Canada has better-off immigrants—educated and contributing to the economy. While some may depend on taxes, most are hardworking and self-sufficient; otherwise, Canada’s economy would have collapsed by now. I have zero issue with people wanting to come to Canada to build a better life for themselves, what I have a problem with is the cheating to get into the country from the rampant fraud in India and then they cheat to get ahead like abusing the foreign temporary worker program to get kick backs and not trying to learn the language. If we went to India to do 1/10th of this we would be thrown in jail or worse

Personally as an Indian, I really feel bad about it. Unfortunately, we DO go to other countries for a chance at better life and dignity, but a lot us Indians then start to feel privileged and entitled and do not adapt to the culture of the country they are in, and force their own cultures and individual beliefs. This sucks, especially as a young guy who dreams of living in other countries, while respecting their cultures and planning to adapt to them. Even in India too, we don't really pay much taxes since we know its gonna go into corruption anyway, so the Immigrant residents in Brampton may have carried forward that practice as their habit. No Indians or for that matter any other community enter Canada and choose to live their lives here if the Governments doesn't allow that. The problem is there are just to many off them. Then too many have gotten very arrogant saying thing like this our country now. Taking over cities street with loud music for some wedding and to those who also live on the street cannot even park there car or live in there homes due to the loud noise. No permit, just taking over. The other problem the last few years immigrations number have skyrocket and 90% of them our Indians. The government should have never let such a large group from one country enter. Meanwhile as climate change happen a lot of countries will be in trouble and the people will need to go somewhere. Iran has only 3% of there water reserve left. India has ruin there country and so has China with pollution and dumping of heavy metel in river and lakes. Meanwhile the Caribbean is expected to be unlivable in 15 and 20 years. The USA we are expected to lose 100 miles of our coastline. That area is where 50% of Americans lives. Pretty soon it will be everyone for themselves if certain country do not look at the long term picture. Also the lifestyle we are living today is just not sustainable.

The problem is immigration back in day was a luxury in India so only riches made it outside and they were rich compared to others after independence because they were more pro british and served them. So it was easy for them to immigrate and assimilate into your culture. Now you see many poor people also immigrating because immigration became more accessible, its just like the touchscreen phones, before only rich people had them, but later and now everyone has it. Plus your overly liberal and the stupid point system lets anyone enter the country if they meet a specific criteria, they barely check their english, background, crime record, etc. Also, living in India is a survival, or a nightmare for short. Especially for the poor people in the up north, and so they go to these shady agents who claim that they can send him or her to Canada, UK, Australia where ever they want in exchange for some money. Sometimes these agents turnout to be scams and sometimes not, then these students apply to some fake university that has no campus in Canada and select a course thats easy. Then once approved they come to canada, don’t go to university and make some other indian friends who say they have contacts with some job providers and through that the students get their jobs at the fast food joints and shopping malls. The mindset with which these students come to Canada is that I want to get a simple job as soon as I land in Canada and through that job I can get a PR. They never go to assimilate or discover the culture, they come because the country looks nice, has resources, and will provide them with a good salary so that they send some money back home to their parents as compared to low paying jobs in India, which too are super competitive. They still like the indian way of life, the culture, the food, the attire, just not in India. Thats why you’ll never see these students eating at anything other than a Indian Punjabi Restaurant or a fast food joint, they will never make white friends, they will never try to change the way they speak and look at Canadians, they will never try to change their driving habits. In conclusion, more poor people and students migrating, paired with their mindset of “I want everything to be Indian just not in India but in a place that looks better” paired with their low interest in actually learning and working better jobs is what makes them a bad immigrant group. But thats not to say that all are like that its only some and mostly Punjabis/ other North Indians that have this mindset. The reason why the Indian group in USA is much better and successful is because they are mostly of south indian descent. Those people are far more educated, actually respect the law of the land. And fun fact: The stereotypical Indian Accent originated from USA mainly and reason why many indians say that they don’t speak in that accent is because that particular stereotypical accent is present in Indian people who come from the states of Andra Pradesh and Telegana, which is is where most of the Indians in USA are actually from. India have a good universities because some countries accept their Indian people with bachelor degree as H1B visa program, but most India apply and accepted in Canada as student visa, how many finished and how many leave the country? because they allow them to work at the same time. who would not take advantage to Canadian foreign programs, and those Indian MP's in parliament will support this programs to help their kinds or country fellows to dominate this country.

Indian students arrived in Canada as Internationals student study permit are the number one fraud scammers cheaters and enter the country. They are misusing the study permit from 2011 to up now. Majority of Indian students came in Canada for study but they never reported to those colleges and disappear and there are over hundred thousand indian students are staying in Canada illegally after there study permit visa expired it means they knew what they were up to 99.9 indian students after they complete there study they never go back to india they were more interested to get Canada PR than study.

The administrative people that are approving these applications are from India too. I am a canadian business man that tried 2 times to bring a visitor over from another country on a visit . Was declined 2 times and at the bottom of the rejection letter was signed by somone from india

I live in elkgrove ca we have a immigrant mayor from India and our Asian population has surpassed the white population by about 1 or 2 % . I don’t like what’s happening I’m scared to grow old in this country that’s why I train hard and stay strong.

This is horrific! As an immigrant from India who has worked his b*tt off to make a better life for himself, this makes me feel so ashamed... I feel alienated because any time I try to say something of value, i get disowned by my own community. I wish everyone was as grateful for the opportunity this country has provided us as I am. And honestly, I have no empathy for anyone trying to cheat the system, no matter where they are from!

I can tell you that there is something significant that this country is not addressing: "fake degrees" coming out of India, especially in the field of Health Sciences and Engineering. I'm a recruiter at one of the largest recruiting agencies in Ontario (Toronto), but I've been noticing something unusual about the degrees coming out of India. This is something that the government needs to address. I guarantee you, if they can do a thorough investigation, something may come out, "something not good".

If you want to do business with dishonest, lying and corrupt people always looking for an angle, choose India and/or Pakistan. We control the process and can do way better than these countries.
