As a German citizen: our US friends make me so sad and scared at the same time. After our people were defeated, we learned (at least for many of us) where nationalism and hatred can lead and how important international cooperation is. You were our friends as the Canadians were and are. Please come to your senses dear US friends. Underneath all the bad, I hope that the Canadian-European partnership can continue to grow

I think it's important to citizens of the world outside of America to know that not all of us represent this government! I am a veteran and never would turn my back on leadership... Until this clown. I stand with Canada, and all of you who have stated as much. We who didn't vote trump in can now only stand by and watch this mistake happen! It's going to take nations to come together with us to stop this dictator from destroying everything we've fought for! I have given my life to the military as we deployed to many countries to support efforts to rebuild after disasters both natural and man made. Now I call on this nations to stand ready when we need you most! Please don't give up on those of us who still care. It's time!!!

People from the USA will pay the price for all this but Trump doesn't care because he considers them as slaves to him and his rich friends. As for Vance and his comment about war... Hey Vancy boy...wnaan talk about war? Really? USA got his arse kicked in Vietnam, Modagishu, Irak and Afghanistan. The only war they had some success with was against the weak Germans during WWII and they would have never been able to do it without the Russians. The reason why fentanyl and other drugs keep coming into the USA is because we in America have too many drug addicts, mostly in the red states that vote for Trump-GOP-Q's reps. Medicaid could be used to help our drug addicts to overcome their addiction, but Trump-GOP-Q's are trying to cut $800 million from medicaid & redirect it for tax cuts for the wealthy. I'm a Canadian. I am trying to wrap my head around why a President would start a trade war by imposing tariffs that hurt their allies and hurt his own people..!? I am not an economist nor an investor; However I found it interesting that the immediate result of this as they corresponded about this news is how the markets are taking a major dive. If I wanted to make money off the stock market and had no morals and had the power to cause it to crash, I would make sure it crashed hard by imposing tariffs. Then I would invest as many billions in the key stocks that will come back, and watch my billions turn into 10's or 100's of billions...\nThe other possible explanation could simply be that he wants all the critical minerals from Canada, Greenland, Ukraine for nothing. Taking those minerals for free and selling electric cars, miliatary equipment, etc. would be most profitable!\nBut greed seems to know no bounds for those who are wealthy, as long as it's at their gain and not at their expense!

Every country should be responsible for their own goods. The day we start relying on other countries for what we need we're in a heck of a mess. Because China couldn't get our merchandise to our plant we had to shut down for almost a month. We messed up sending some of our work to China. After this we got everything in the US. Cheaper prices are not the solution. Cheaper labor is not the answer. Trump is concerned about the drugs coming into our country and since the borders are affected these drugs will be coming into our country many other ways. You know where criminals go to get out of the US. Canada. Trump is doing this for our country and you can bet on this. I'm sick of drugs in our country killing people everyday. I'm sick of guns but just about every household owns guns. Children are killed in their own homes with guns. Who cares about alcohol being sold in their state. Honestly. People are homeless because of addiction to alcohol. Yeah saying president Trump using fentanyl for this for this trade war was a bad move. President Trump is doing this for the drugs taking over this country.

Historically, tariffs have been imposed to support production of American goods. Think cotton, steel, other raw materials the U.S. used to produce in past centuries. For the past several decades, America has not produced many raw materials because it's cheaper to buy them from countries who can pay their workers less to keep the cost of production low. It's impossible to quickly begin producing these things here, so Trumplethinskin's tariffs will do nothing but piss off our trading partners and dramatically increase the prices Americans pay for a long list of essential goods. I see a major recession coming soon. If your goal was to close American car plants because the parts are too expensive and make it impossible for U.S. citizens to afford to feed their families, you've achieved it, King Donald ?

I think it is time to use all the unused land to grow our vegetation and any thing else that gets planted to use for the Canadian. We do have the brain and the finances to grow our own fruit even if it takes a couple of years for the plants to produce the vegetation to supply the need. We need to manufacture our own goods. It is only one simple issue we will face but it is one we can handle! Oil, gas, car parts and cars...do it here and get some of the unemployed individuals Living on Provincial Checks off their butts and put them to work. (any that can at all} It might just surprise people at how many would have a reason to get up in the morning and the self confidence they need to get rid of the very thing Trump said was killing US people and stop it from coming in from the US! If we are going to tell it lets tell the truth!.

Yall are sheep. \nEvery country needs imports. But America relies on so many other countries to keep itself going is more than unhealthy. If China and the US went to war, yes, China would suffer. But look around your house, I bet most of it says - Made In China. That can NOT happen to the extent it is. \n\nFun Fact- when Russia, Ukraine war started, Russia couldn’t get Coke ( Soda ) now Russia has many knock offs that they say taste just like ours. Point is, Russia started making their own. Yes, the US will always need imports. But did you know over a dozen + countries already have & had tariffs on the US for a LONG time, some are even our “ Allies “. Do you know why they do it? To protect their economy. To protect domestic goods. The short term is always the hardest. But it’s been proven that the long run, tariffs actually help a country’s economy. Also, the US gets shafted when it comes down to a lot of trade deals. Yeah, okay, imports are great… ( If you are getting a good deal )

Ya know, it’s honestly comical that some many people have these knee jerk responses to anything they deem “negative” STRICTLY for the fact that it came from Trump, and rather know TRULY ABSOLUTELY NOTHING behind the reason why these “negative” things are said or done in the first place… I ASSURE YOU 99% of the people complaining about this Canada tariff don’t know that it’s simply to (essentially) force Canada to agree to ramp up their border DEA enforcement/presence to help cut down on the illegal drug trade (primarily fentanyl) coming into America! If more of these people complaining knew this reasoning behind it, I think that would quite honestly shut a lot of them up! And to be completely honest with you, that failure falls on NO ONE MORE THAN THE JADED MEDIA!! I truly believe THAT is hands down the biggest failure in our nation currently!! Thus, Canadian municipalities governments are very attached to property owners, leading to the political conditions that make housing harder to build and new housing more expensive. The vast majority of the policies restricting housing supply and increasing costs of new housing, like development charges on new homes to fund infrastructure instead of taxing existing property owners, onerous and restrictive zoning regulations, and slow and expensive permitting processes all come from the cities. Honestly, for many city politicians it is to their advantage to make the crisis worse. Why wouldn’t a city councillor vote to raise development charges on building new homes instead of raising property taxes on existing homes to pay for stuff like replacing life expired sewer and road and subway infrastructure!? His constituents aren’t going to care about the costs of new homes, which affect people moving to the city or younger generations, which are either not yet residents of the city or too young to vote.

Clearly Donald Trump does not understand the simple concept of Tariffs...when reporters ask him questions he deflects the questions., President Trump is not acting according to the oath he has taken as President. Its obvious this is a revenge trip for all of the legal issues against Trump over the last years,, he is taking it personal and damaging so many critical pillars within the US and its all gonna come down and thats where he thinks he will personally win ie get his revenge.

As a European I stand with Canada. I lived in the Us and many Americans are wonderful. However this administration has lost its values and soul. Canada and the E.U should work together closely. And why not join the E.U? Our values are the same. Buy beers & wine from many countries & not the USA. Then with finances try to avoid American banks & credit card companies & shares. Even at a basic level we can all make a difference. Canadian here. Wake up Canadians. Many people are praising Trudeau for this speech. Don't. He is out as Liberal leader within the week. He doesn't have to follow through on anything he said. Plus, he just stated that he's smart enough to suggest that Trump just put a 25% tax on Canadian goods for Americans but he also thinks that you are dumb enough not to realize that he just put a 25% tax on Canadians for American goods. Trudeau basically created the situation for these tariffs (open border to let anyone come here). He loves this as he gets to take the apparent moral high ground for the first time in his life and wants this speech to be the way he is remembered rather than years of failing Canada. Forget about the last 9 years and vote Liberal if you are a fool.

Canada has known for decades that we have put too many eggs in one basket - selling our resources primarily to the USA. We've had tariffs before and worked with them. Yet we still keep selling to the USA. This time is different. In conjunction with the tariffs, we have an American administration that is flat out insulting Canada. Saying we wouldn't exist economically if it wasn't for the USA. It's at a time when the USA won't promise not to use military force to annex land (Greenland) from a decades old ally. A time when clearly Putin is calling in his chips for whatever he has over Donald Trump. Canadians have had enough. We are directing our governments, provincial and federal, to finally, finally break from the north-south trade links. We need to establish stronger east-west trade links. The resources we have are wanted by many countries if the USA does not want them. It does mean much work within Canada. We need to get our AB-BC pipeline finished as well as the new sea terminal so we can ship our crude oil and natural gas to Japan and if need be, to China. We finally need to get out pipeline to the Atlantic coast finished so we can supply the UK and EU with our products. We need to double our rail capacity for shipping potash, uranium, rare minerals to Asia or Europe. Just as Trump hopes for a golden age of American companies coming home and building new plants in the USA, this will be a golden decade for Canada to create transportation corridors to get our resources to other buyers. America will have to look elsewhere for his raw materials. And we all know what that is - RUSSIA. They've already offered their rare minerals and crude oil. This is all clearly a well thought out scenario from the people working behind Trump to dismiss America's allies and trading partners - have us turn against the USA - as the excuse to open the door to Russian imports into the USA.

The US isn't launching a trade war against anyone. We are closing up shop and are getting ready to take care of our own. There is a massive difference. We cannot be expected to continue supporting other countries economies and defense obligations, when we have 2 generations of working class citizens unable to afford a home or have children. We have entire countries we could fill with the homeless and incarcerated, and veterans who see little to no positive treatment or respect within the job market. Things are already very very bad here in the states. I don't think many Americans realize how bad the economy is. Tariffs will force US companies to reduce the outsourcing of jobs, and force other countries who are over-reliant on trade from the States, to cultivate their own self-sufficiency. This may seem hypocritical when it comes to China, but that isn't a problem you can solve overnight. \n\nTo make it clear, Americans are going to suffer in the wake of this tariff decision, but that is the price we pay to force ourselves to change. We have made ourselves into a very weak country because of overreliance on other countries trade, and other countries overreliance on our intelligence, infrastructure, medical advancements, technological advancements, and defense capabilities. The american consumer and taxpayer front the bills for all of this, and they are suffering. This isn't a war on the rest of the world. It us telling everyone else that we can no longer be relied upon because we are weak. \n\nI didnt' even vote Trump the first two times he ran. But things have now gotten so bad that I was forced into voting for him this time. Why? Because he's a bull in a china shop. I expect him to tear every damn thing apart he can within our government. I want everything destroyed so it can be rebuilt by people who aren't complacent.

Prime Minister Trudeau is boldly hitting the nails on the head, and I admire his boldness and honesty as I've always admired Canada and its peoples. Trump is in the back pocket of the Russian dictator. His actions prove it to my satisfaction. Canada has been a staunch friend of the US, a real partner not just for economic benefits for both countries but for a democratic way of life. Canada is a strong democracy whose people are known for their open hearts and minds. I pray that this idiotic trade war started by a man who is subservient to Putin will come to an end. Somewhat right but not exactly right. According to Trump admin, Trump is actually trying to stop the circumvention of Chinese goods and Chinese drugs coming from Canada. Trudeau promised Trump to work on the drug issue, but I guess he did not if we are seeing the significant import tax on Canada now. And come on Trudeau, you dislike Trump and aren't exactly his friend. You talked back on him on many international stages. Anyways, I wish you two get along eventually and hope the same for US and Canada.

Why can’t we have a real leader like this! Instead we have a belligerent egomaniac Russian asset as president. He shouldn’t have even had 10% of the vote. I live in Nashville, TN USA. I am so sorry Canada is suffering due to Trump. I do not support this move on Trump's part. I never voted for him. I have known for many years he is a dangerous narcissist. Canada is our friend. You have come to our aide in times of trouble. Our forest fires, 911 when the planes hit our twin towers. Trump wants a 4.5 Trillion dollar tax cuts for the wealthy. He sees tariffs as a way to make up some of that money alone with huge budget cuts to many of our programs. Trump is an unreasonable person who only thinks about himself. I hope he will eventually be impeached. I do not blame Canada. I blame Donald Trump and the the Republican Congress. I love Canada. Canada will always be our ally, but there appears to be some “one sided-ness”.
