I served alongside Canadian military when I served in the US military. They were very tough, honorable, and outstanding professionals. I have friends and family from Canada, and they love America. You can let your governors, senators and representatives know that you do not agree with the government’s actions and the subsequent hardship it will impose not only on the world but on you, your family and neighbours. Make change happen in a peaceful, non violent manner, while you still can. Could Canada Win a Trade War?\n Trump has waged Economic War on Canada in order to bring us to our knees so that we will eventually capitulate to become the 51st state.\n\n Had he come in a nice way, as a friend verses a foe, he would have had a lot more interest, especially from Alberta. \n\n Now that we are here, the question has to be asked, can we actually win a trade war that has probably been extensively war-gamed by the U.S.?\n\n Our politicians want us to go toe to toe with a 900 lb gorilla. The U.S. economy is at least 10 times our size and are less dependent on our trade than we are. The speech of Mr Trudeau, the way Canadians have shown solidarity for one another, today it all puts my country, The US, to shame. I am ashamed of what my government is doing and I am disgusted with the people doing it. In Mr Trump’s first term, as eclipsed as they were by the many many many actions and attitudes he imposed on us that embarrassed and hurt us as a country, there was the rare occasional decision I could at least understand even if I did not support it. Since taking office literally not one thing he has done has made sense to me as an American. I can only say how sorry I am for what the country I love is being used to do to you all, especially our closest allies and friends and in particular the people of Canada today. I grew up in Commerce Twp Michigan. I visited Canada regularly and, even as crime from Detroit poured across the border into Canada, Canadians always treated us with respect and welcome. I never imagined that would stop but now I find it hard to imagine how it might continue and it breaks my heart.

Americans obviously didn’t understand what tariffs are, didn’t get that it’s an import tax which they must pay on goods and products they buy from Canada, a tax which tRump collects from Americans and uses to pay for tax-cuts for the richest citizens. But one more thing Americans don’t get is that before this fateful day an unofficial boycott against ALL US goods has been growing since tRump insulted Canada’s Prime Minister and threatened Canada’s sovereignty—whereas Canada’s official countervails ( which only kicked-in today )only target certain US goods, not ALL of them like ordinary Canadians are doing in growing numbers right now—in fact, the imposition of tRump’s tariffs today has only made the unofficial boycott bigger and more organized. It’s heartening that so many nations have solicited Canada, offering alternative sources for common US exports to Canada —citrus fruits, pharmaceuticals, and other manufactures, to name a few.\n\nI don’t think Canadians even realize how big this unofficial boycott is getting because it’s growing so fast. I’ve never seen a surge in Canadian patriotism like this. Never in my seven decades —which includes the two Referenda on Quebec separation. And there’s a federal election approaching when all partisans will be one-upping each other in the patriotism department—which manifests in more boycotts of US goods and hospitality services.\n\n Americans should know that the unofficial boycott is more harmful to US exporters than the official targeted countervails because it features immediate and longterm diminishment of Canadian purchases of US goods—all retailers know it’s very hard to recover lost customers once they’ve found alternatives (and the added patriotic effect only makes it worse). Included is diminishment of Canadian visits to the USA. Indeed, the internet is replete with testimonies of Canadian”snow birds” not only forgoing their annual sojourn in the Florida or Arizona sunshine but also of selling their properties there with the parting shot, “I will never vacation in the US again!” Already Mexico has seen its visits from Canadians (who have had a modest presence in Mexico for years) surge to unprecedented levels. I know from much-welcomed temp Mexican construction workers in BC (where I live) that they view Canadians completely differently from our mutual US neighbours—and now that affection is growing like never before. \n\nI’m continually amazed at how uninformed Americans are about tariffs—and misinformed by tRump and his goofy, preposterous, and ridiculous fantasy of world-domination. When tRump uses the lame excuse to implement emergency powers —that Canada is “allowing” (as Vance puts it) fentanyl to “pour into the USA”—it’s tantamount to saying Ukraine started the war with Russia. As a Canadian, I can assure America that, even if or when these tariffs are removed, we will never forgive or forget the base treatment we have received from our former closest friend. More than 800 lbs of fentanyl was seized by the CBSA crossing from the US into Canada last year and how about the illegal guns you keep smuggling into Canada?\n\nIf Canada has to do the job of your border agents, shouldn't the US need to do the job of ours? When smugglers are entering the US, it's US border agents, not Canadian or American that those smugglers meet. When crossing from the US to Canada, it's CBSA agents they meet, not US. So maybe we need to reverse that, or combine border agencies and work together??? Nah, that wouldn't work for tRump, because after all, it isn't about Fentanyl at all.

We are all living in strange times! The bad guy (Putin) is defended like he’s the good guy and the victim (Zelensky) is criticized like he’s the aggressor. Nevertheless, things are upside down! USA voting at the UN with North Korea and Putin and Belarus and against the EU and UK and NATO alliance nations … against the victim Ukraine? This is unheard of! Yet this is so ironic because Leonid Brezhnev, who was the USSR leader, when Russia invaded the sovereign nation of Afghanistan, and Vladimir Putin was a young KGB agent at that time, working for Brezhnev, is now in his position as leader, and he invaded Brezhnev’s sovereign homeland of Ukraine. Brezhnev must be weeping from hell and regretting his invasion of Afghanistan! Crying from hell, seeing his servant, Putin, in his seat of authority, and invading his homeland like he did to Afghanistan, I’m sure Brezhnev regrets but it’s too late now. He’s burning in hell and he can’t get out of hell! \n\nThe bad deal that Clinton and Yeltson and John Major dealt to Ukraine in the 1990s when they moved all of her nuclear weapons to Russia was like declawing the Ukrainian cat and now the cat can’t defend herself against aggressors because she has no claws to defend herself from aggressive attackers!\n\nCanada and Mexico are our friends not our enemies! And that tight rope spans from one high rise building to another - the senate and house chambers of the US legislature. The midterms are coming soon and if President Trump loses the house and senate, that tight rope could snap! And all those shock and awe executive orders etc. could come back to haunt him like a boomerang thumping his head.\n\nNever in my wildest imagination would I ever imagine Canadians harboring bad feelings towards the USA! This is 180 degrees opposite of how things were when Ronald Reagan and Brian Mulroney were in the political arena!

I gotta say that I'm not a liberal nor have I been a particular fan of Justin Trudeau... but today (and for the last few weeks) I've been quite impressed by my Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau. This Canadian supports a vast and vicious trade war against the United States. I do not have any hatred for the American people but I do have nothing but contempt for Trump and his band of traitorous scum! I wouldn't have dreamed that our closest friend and ally could be siding with an enemy proclaimed (Russia) against democratic nations.
