Close Reading

My boss asked me “you talk funny where you from?” I said America just like you. Then he was like well what about your parents I knew what he wanted to know but I said they are American too. Finally he was blunt and said are you Chinese. I said no my ancestors came from Uzbekistan. And he was like is it by China. I was so done and I walked away.

Wow no one wants to go back where they came from, I’m from Mexico, my parents bought me here when I was 10 yrs old,
