As a Canadian I dislike the tarrifs and think they are harmful on both sides. What is keeping me awake at night is what we all fear is truly behind this. A plan to weaken Canada so that the US teamed up with Russia can take what they want from us just as they are trying to do to Ukraine. Elbows up Canada! ??

American here. Those of us who aren’t part of the Trump cult apologize so badly for this. We hate this. We are heartbroken to see our country kick its allies to the curb and be a bully to impress Putin and Russia. And we are afraid of what’s to come. Please teach Trump and MAGAs a lesson in both economics and what it means to be an honorable good person again.

In my mind, the best case scenario is that trump and his regime are lacking the ability to think long term strategically. The worst case scenario is that they are throwing grenades at the status quo, to create fake reasons to allow for expansion of US territory and make space for china and russia to do the same.

The more I read the comments of different news articles, the more I realize that we as a world, and a species, want to be united as friends, hand in hand but our leaders are trying to keep us divided. I hope we make it through the next few years alive. And when this nightmare is over, I look forward to the world coming together, be they people of Russia, Ukraine, Mexico, Canada, and America.

I think it is important to note how much governments complain when they get taxed but how much they also complain they aren't taxing their people even more. Imagine if the people got this upset Everytime they were taxed. And if he wants to fight russia in wwiii he is welcome to go to russia and get it started rather than negotiate peace. I used to think that the idea that Trump is a Russian asset was just a conspiracy theory. I am not sure of that now as how else to you explain why Trump is doing everything he can to undermine the USA? Why else would you cause a breech between the US and our allies Canada and Mexico? Why else would he destroy the infrastructure of our country through Musk and Doge? Why else would you stop all aid to Ukraine? Why would you stop cyber operations targeting Russia? Why would he set up an operation to humiliate the leader of an allied country fighting for its life against Russian aggression? Why would you send your vice president to Germany and have him insult our allies and not meet with the leadership of the country but rather meet with the essentially neo-Nazi Alternative for Germany? None of this--and many other actions--makes sense unless you begin to understand that Trump is actively trying to weaken our country to the benefit of the Russians. I know it is hard to believe but I can find no other explanation.

Ah yes, the trade war that Canada will surely lose. I love Canada. Wouldn't trade it for the world, but this is a losing battle by which citizens on both sides will feel the full effect. Trump appeasing Putin is a chess move, that the PM seems to be overlooking. The US can't afford to go to war with Russia, but at the same time, it needs resources within Russia's neighboring region. So the US will do what they always do, and had people listened to what Kissinger had to say, they'd be better prepared for this. Nonetheless, let's stand proud and strong, and come together as Canadians in order to get through this.
