As a Canadian, I want to say that we love our American friends and neighbours. We are proud to call you our closest ally, and our shared history and relationship is cherished by all Canadians. Until now. The fact that we are being treated worse than authoritarian threats like Russia or China is beyond insulting. We don’t deserve this. We don’t want this. \n\nTo my European friends, please urge your governments to buy Canadian goods and support free trade between our nations. We love our EU friends as well, and we have wares to sell!

As a Canadian, I didn’t vote for Trudeau but I have to hand it to him, he has expressed the thoughts and feelings of the majority of Canadians very well. Canadians are generally pretty laid back and easy going, often too polite for our own good. However, as the Americans in 1812, the Germans in WW1 and WW2, the Chinese and North Koreans in the Korean War and the Taliban in Afghanistan found out we don’t shy away from a fight when we are provoked. We will never bow down to that orange orangutang in the White House.

I'm European and I really can't understand how you can make an economic trade war with an ally like Canada, a close and so friendly neighbor.... A dumb decision not only for the W Post... The American government agencies and institutions have been weakened, as well as their healthcare and educational systems. This could be explained if Trump has been talking to Putin and colluded on a plan to divide the world between them. This is such a remarkable speech that it will go down in history as one of the truly great speeches in times of crisis.
