There are now quite a few news stories in Canada of immigrants leaving the country - some back home and others to the USA and other places. Many just get a Canadian passport and then leave. There are public health care and pensions, so it can be an asset and also a convenient travel document to have. A lot of Canadian university graduates have a very hard time finding work in their fields and a lot of them look to the US for a better future. Both immigration and unemployment in Canada are much higher that in the US - so more people are chasing fewer jobs that often pay less and are taxed more than in the USA. Opportunities are generally a lot fewer in Canada than the US, and the business environment is not as favourable, and taxes significantly higher. You would be getting some of the entrepreneurs from Canada moving to the US for more favourable conditions as well to launch a business and also now a lot more rich investor types, so-called high net worth individuals wanting to relocate, because they just raised the capital gains tax in Canada. Capital gains is also triggered on inheritance in Canada with a deemed sale of property and assets, so rich people would prefer the American system and want to be residents there for tax purposes and have their assets grow in value in the US compared to Canada. There are very large numbers of foreign students and other categories of immigrants which may have as their goal going to the US after getting a temporary visa to Canada which is easy to get - maybe something like half a million to a million people in those categories depending on the year, plus around another half million regular immigrants and refugees now. The Trudeau administration has increased immigration to record numbers. It has been steadily going up over the years for several decades since 1990. Because of family re-unification it can have a snowball effect and could significantly exceed 1 million per year. A lot of the sending countries have much larger populations than Canada, so there are a lot more that can be potentially sent to Canada in the future. About 1/4 of the population of Canada has been added in the past few decades. Add to that visitors and temporary visas - that is a lot of people potentially moving to the US. Before the 1990s Canadians visiting the US were not required to have a passport and a drivers' license or birth certificate was adequate. Now a passport is required. It is impossible to effectively control the long Canada-US border, so there could be some unified policies in that area agreed on between Canada and the USA on immigration and refugees. Canada currently has a very open immigration policy with the government actively seeking out more immigration beyond its current processing capacity and trying to take rejected immigrants from other countries. The Canadian government, especially in recent years under Trudeau is immigration hungry. It might be the only country in the world doing that. What some news reports are now saying is that some immigrants are actually leaving, since they find it so difficult in Canada and some are worse off than they were in the countries they came from, which were considered to be less developed than Canada. \nWashington currently has more immigration controls and administrative competencies than Ottawa, so US pressure and influence is a faster way to get reforms into the system than waiting for local politicians to do anything, which is unlikely. Canada is seen by some as a backdoor into the US. Biden's immigration policies could be seen as very conservative in Canada compared to Trudeau's. It used to be in the news about how refugees were trying to get to Canada and walking across the border in Quebec and out west from the US earlier, but now there are more news stories of immigrants leaving Canada trying to go the other way, probably due to high costs and unemployment because the government took in more people than it could absorb into the economy. They have the idea that immigration drives GDP growth so that they can borrow and spend more, expand the civil service, etc. without making any cutbacks or efficiencies, supposedly without the Debt to GDP ratio getting worse, just by bringing in more people as if that would drive the economy. A lot depends on who you bring in as well. Are they going to go on welfare, are they going to increase crime, will they somehow contribute to society, are they a net tax benefit or cost in terms of government services, will they invest money, will they start a business and create jobs for others ? Those issues do not factor into government decision making in Canada for the most part. Ontario Premier Doug Ford did say there were too many foreign students. It is bad planning not to consider those factors since there are other costs that grow with those policies as well, and infrastructure has to be expanded. I think that the real immigration numbers to Canada are not transparent or made public, nor are the costs involved, if anyone even knows what they are. Nor is the impact on crime. You can guess from what the reports are in other countries. The Fraser Institute has made some estimates on the net costs of immigration to the government budget a few years ago, which were very high and which by now have increased - the cost equivalent of several new aircraft carriers each year. They are big numbers which are not publicized, but it amounts to the fact that immigration is subsidized by the taxpayers in Canada and it is not paying for our pensions as an ageing society as has been claimed. There is less money for education, health care and pensions per person, and those social benefits will probably have to be reduced over time. Social programs can only be delivered to the extent that the government has money. The bigger social system a county has, the more such immigration policies are going to cost. Trudeau has been expanding various social programs as well, so higher taxes and debt are likely with that approach. Then more productive people and companies will want to leave Canada and go to the US. Probably the government does not know what the actual numbers and costs are and doesn't actively keep track of that information beyond what is required. Probably nobody knows what the true immigration figures and their associated costs are in Canada, and hardly anyone has even studied those issues. If they can just walk across the US border and get papers so easily making an asylum claim, it is not surprising, since it would take them longer to get a regular visa and work permit if they did it legally. You could call that a loophole in the US immigration system which is being exploited. The US is better governed in general and has a better system in many ways, but I am not sure if it is the same on that. People have arrived on boats and have not been sent back. At least in the US you have more open information about those issues. In Canada it is hard to find out anything about it. Deportations from Canada are very few. \nOn other issues in Canada when voting in federal elections you have to show a government issued photo ID like a drivers' license or passport to vote and bring a card that was mailed out to eligible voters that gets updated addresses when a person files their taxes. I have never heard of mail-in ballots in Canada, but there are remote areas of the country in the far north who may have special system for voting. It is easier to get a Canadian citizenship than US and many more citizenships are handed out in Canada each year in proportion to the population than in the US. Canadian might be one of the easiest citizenships to get in the world. The official line now is that it is a country of immigrants. Based on current trends, will very little opposition to it in the parliament and most MPs supporting it, future immigration to Canada could increase to several million per year because of the rapid growth of population in the world, and the momentum already growing of immigration to Canada, so it may change significantly in the future. Historically around the world you can see many examples that country names, borders, flags and languages change over time with population changes, so it might not be called Canada anymore in 50-100 years. For example, Bulgaria used to be called Thrace which had been a powerful kingdom in antiquity and had a different language which is barely known about anymore. Over the past 2,000 years it has gone through a number of changes and had various regimes governing it, has been independent and also part of several different empires. Canada has only been a country for a short time in comparison and has been been going through significant changes. Trudeau has said that Canada is a post-national country. Canada is also going through a period of critical self-examination and deconstruction-revisionism. A lot of what had been viewed as positive from its history now is seen more critically, with re-naming and removing historical figures now seen as negative.\nDiscussing immigration policy critically is considered by many to be taboo in Canada, unless a person is saying good things about it in general. You can hear people say that the government isn't processing enough people, for example, but not often that there are too many or that it costs a lot of money. The trend of migration from Canada to the US would only increase much more in the future as it is going currently, and its role as a stepping stone to migration to the US could increase. The way this would be seen by many in Canada is that they are losing valuable people to the USA whom they consider assets, since a lot of officials have been trying to bring in more people into the country, but not everyone wants to stay in Canada nowadays because of a lack of jobs and opportunities. Canada is quite laissez-faire about migration, with Toronto being a sanctuary city as well.

Even worse, a large number of Chinese nationals have been entering the US from Canada for years now.

I've been saying this all while everyones eyes have been on our southern borders that why isn't anyone looking at our northern borders as they have to be just as bad if not worse. Distrackting everyones eyes from the norrh as everyone looks south is the most mind blowing by DC.qnd all our Politicans. Not one Politican even brought this up with all their rants about the southern borders. Are they all that stupid or is this all a plan by both partys. If our country really needs workers then where are all these jobs for all these immigrants and why not make a faster system to make them legal and more judges to have their hearings for Asylum seekers and Refugees to see if they even qualify. We have to stop funding the UN and NGOs.

Hmm I feel so bad for everyone involved in this. I don't really want cartels going over the US border but I really don't mind all the people fleeing from countries that are even worse then the US. So many of them have such horror stories from their native countries. And if they're willing to work here I don't think there should be really a problem. I just really wish they wouldn't all congregate in the big cities and would move more to a lot of the rural places that are losing people. The housing is getting so expensive in the big cities I'm not sure how they can afford even stay there.

The biggest impact on the declining economic productivity coincides with the Trump administrations trade war against Canada. That coupled with the pandemic, resulted in a one-two punch to the Canadian economy. On top of that the amount of investment into automation in the energy sector over the past 10 years has reduced the demand for labour. And now with the ever expanding encroachment of AI on nearly every industry, the Canadian economy is facing an uphill battle. Many think that a prime minister is the main reason, when it's not. Canada is at the whim of US economic policy, which I fear is going to get even worse when Trump returns to office. A transition to Conservatives at the Federal level may lighten the load on a few things like Carbon Tax, and Income Tax (maybe), but they won't be the party to introduce limitations and regulations on investors that are responsible for driving up housing prices, by treating the housing market like it's a stock exchange. \nI will applaud Trudeau on winning over the EV battery plant, for pulling us out of bombing Syria and Iraq, for legalizing Marijuana, and for including Dental Care in health coverage (albeit limited...), but some of his decisions should have been better thought through, like the capital gains tax, and should only be targeting investors that have more than 3 properties. While he increased the budget for the Military, he's spent his first two terms ignoring it and that's severely hampered our readiness, and equipment. And while I do think we needed to boost immigration to stave off economic disaster, the current level that its at is problematic, and many bad faith actors are taking advantage of it and enriching themselves like the diploma mills.

I'm 26 and I will never own a house in mu lifetime. The job market has neve been worse. Even if you want a job it's near impossible if you don't have years of experience in said field.

I am a Canadian citizen been here for nine years and I have not seen this country this worse . I completely agree with everything you said, and on top of it, I will add being a Canadian citizen does not help the cost of living is so high even a blue collar job will not support the cost of living. Hi Febby, stumbled upon your video and wanted to know your experience in Canada. As someone who was born in Canada and left, I wanted to know about some current sentiment, especially by younger people. I think you had some interesting information. I'm actually sad to hear that crime and homelessness has gotten even worse, especially in places like you mentioned, DTES. One thing I want to share with you about the housing issue. Canada acts like a Federation. Meaning that a lot of decision making is delegated to the provincial and municipal level. Yes, Canada has goals for immigration. That's a super valid goal because every developed country is going through declining birth rates. Canada wants to lessen the damage that will be felt by so many other countries like Italy, Germany, China, Japan, etc. The issue with this federated government is like you said, a disconnect between goals and readiness. However, I really feel this will never be accomplishable because of all the lobbying that occurs at the municipal level that the Federal and even Provincial level government cannot control. Yes, there may be shortages in labour to do development, but even then, I really think that lobbying and corruption is keeping adequate supply from being built. From the homeowners and the perspective of the wealthy property owners, they want to keep the valuation of housing high by keeping supply low. Why else is the municipal government keeping such archaic zoning laws? From what I could find, there has been some talk about changing this (https://bc.ctvnews.ca/b-c-to-table-housing-law-targeting-outdated-zoning-rules-1.6627260) but I struggle to see anything really being done. That's probably because of lobbying. The immigration laws set by the government had too many loopholes and flaws ultimately. I don't think we are getting enough productive immigrants. Actually, the opposite seems to occur a lot. The wealthy from the countries I mentioned are abusing the immigration policies in Canada to transfer and preserve their wealth in Canada. I think it has hid in plain sight for a long time, and people have started talked about it in the last 5-10 years because of the struggles of housing affordability from the middle class. What about the immigrants that really want to start a life in Canada and find opportunities like you said? The housing is too expensive for them to do that. Really chicken and egg problem like you mentioned. And this issue can't readily be fixed with the way Canadian government operates. Look forward to hearing your thoughts. Before 2016 ish Canada got better international students who kept their head down and focused on their studies and actually being good citizens in Canada it’s been down hill ever since and even worse since covid some of these guys can’t even form a coherent sentence plus some of these kids get their families in here on visitor visa then get them a refugee visa through lawyers

I agree with most of the information in this video. I lived in Canada from 2015-2021. When i used to attend college, parking lot always smelled like weed. People were always lined up at the “recreation drugstore” even in excruciating cold. Also, the job market is bad, most of the employers are racist. Permanent residency is very hard to get. Free health care is actually not free. It is deducted from your every single pay checks. If you had any emergencies, be ready to wait for more than 10+ hours; sometimes more than that. I remember when back in 2015, prime minister justin, got more than 5 thousand Syrian refugees, and people were complaining that they are currently facing job shortages, housing issues and many other things but their needs were completely ignored. I recently visited Canada, and it’s getting worse now, lots of traffic, crime and homeless people. I would still recommend if you want to go and get educated because the education system is good. But if your goal is only for settlement then i would suggest to apply for permanent residence first.

Healthcare is worse even with so little population, Indian healthcare is far far better we forget to appreciate specially considering population in India. We *better* pay attention. \nEurope is having immigration issues and even the Nordic countries are getting hostile. I don't totally blame the immigrants, they are wanting to leave a terrible environment, but the host government should set the tone. They should screen applicants, set limits, and have assimilation rules such as being tested for the native language, having the new people take history courses of the host country, etc. \nFor many reasons, much of the planet is becoming harsh to live in --- drought, genocide, employment, war, etc. It is going to continually get worse, and nobody has a legit, big picture plan to improve things. \nAnd this only deals with one issue, but there are MANY. This is the main issue in Canada. We are stuck in so many ways. Our economy is the worst in the G7, so we need to mass import migrants to artificially increase our GDP. But with that, our cost of living will artificially stay high from the increased demand on the housing. All while suppressing wages. All while our government refuses to increase our key natural exports, like crude oil, or nuclear materials. We really are in shambles. Really we need to rip the band aid off, and pause all migration from india for the next five years, not even allowing chain migration. Maintain a manageable rate of legal migration (the US normally has 1 million migrants a year as a high, to a population of 300 million). While getting our pipelines built. Stop the woke shit that is destroying us. Right now every housing project requires an 18 month pause to make sure that the native lands are recognized through a corrupt archeological study (ever since the residential school mass grave hoax). Build houses like crazy, allowing for one additional farm land residential severance. And then stop the regulatory suppression from the federal government on corporations. We have zero money being invested into Canada and it will lead to us having a worse economic outlook than Mexico in less than ten years. Imagine the world thinking of Canada as a third world country. That's where we are heading without some serious shift in how we approach our policy.

What makes it even worse if not only Brampton. They are moving everywhere in Canada. Before you know, it’ll all become like Brampton. They also only hire each other so not only are they taking over your country, they won’t even hire you. This is huge problem. You have no idea how bad it will get. So something about it now.

I moved to canada to finish highschool and university, and honeslty, I cant wait to go back home. Im under a lot of stress to finish my school before things get even worse. My parents work as building managers for a company, and even though the price of our apartment is lowered because of that, we still have to fight every day just to not go homeless, even though we live on 2 paychecks. We are 1 minor inconvenience away from going completely bankrupt and homeless, canada is honestly one of the worst countries to be right now. I'd rather be at home, in my politically corrupt and underdeveloped country than be in canada, because at least in my home country, i can get good pay and live without fear of going homeless.

As a fairly liberal Canadian, immigration is the only subject that makes me move to the center-right politically. We don't have the ressources to feed, house and care for 1.5 million new people every year, much less the Canadians already here. Justin Trudeau has been hurting the country with his open door migration policy because he's too scared to lose his brownie points from the far left. Any other politician is too scared to say anything negative and concrete on immigration because it's considered political suicide, but the tide is changing with Canadians. We don't want anymore would be asylum seekers or foreign students working and overstaying their visas because WE CAN'T EVEN TAKE CARE OF OURSELVES ANYMORE. Yes, our birth rates are too low and we need some immigration to help close the population decline gap that will eventually come, but it can't be a free for all. We can barely afford rent, groceries, healthcare, etc. now and I fear it will only get worse in the coming years. At this point, as an early 30 something year old, I will never own a home or even be able to move without dishing out 60-80% of my income for rent. None of this is viable long term, we're reaching the point of criticality

Honestly, the cost of living is high everywhere.. There is no government of any nation that really cares for the people.. I live in Jamaica, and if you don't have links, survival in this country is almost impossible, and if you should get a job, if you don't discipline yourself to live within your means/ budget, you will only find yourself in debts.. We have pretty much very similar challenges in Australia. I would say living cost is even higher than Canada. But the good aspect is the weather. In Western Australia we enjoy over 300d Blue sunny skies and in Winter although rainy, we seldom get below freezing temperatures. So i don't need to worry about damaging my LFP batteries for my Offgrid solar system.\nAnother benefit is the bike path network in WA is extensive. You can pretty much get to anywhere on a bike, riding mostly on a very nice and safe bike path. I cover 60km every day travelling to/from work on my ebike. And it takes less than 1 hour for each trip.\nCrime rate has been getting worse though. It is fuel by drug use. So if people go out especially at night, you definitely need to be highly alert and watch your 6 o'clock. One can get attacked for no obvious reason and very commonly from behind. ???

This is said very politically correct and polit explanation, but my experience living in australia, I tell you it's much worse place to choose. In west you are not free either and is extremely hard to assimilate. The social problems are mounting. Not only is it it impossible to live here, there are no resources unless the government gets something from it. As an indigenous child who grew up in foster care my whole life, there was no indigenous foster care homes for me to go to and therefore my culture has become traumatic for me. My OWN culture has major trauma related to it and my foster care agency would NOT help me unless I moved to the reservation after I aged out the THEIR system, which was not applicable because they were the ones who traumatized me. When I turned 19, I was expected to have it all figured out, I was not allowed to remain in my foster home afterwards without massive paper work and thank god my foster mom cared about me because without her, I would be on the streets with nothing but a garbage full of clothes. I moved out on my own with the help of that family and my agency said they would help with things if I asked. As of the economy now, I did ask them. I asked them for any help at all and my social worker LITERALLY ghosted me and stood me up, even at my plea for help. You would think this is just my case but there are hundreds of cases like mine with even worse endings and what Canada has done with this information is nothing. Foster Care in Canada for indigenous youth is the 2000’s way of Residential Schools and I am EXTREMELY lucky to NOT be homeless and dead. Many of my friends in similar situations are dead or homeless and I have no hope for Canada, it’s an extremely depressing reality.
