What Trump is too stupid to understand is that the cost of tariffs is always passed on to the end user, the consumer, the purchaser. He doesn't know this because he has never paid for anything in his life.

It’s about turning America into an Oligarchy and transferring the cost of government to the working class!

Liberals got business relationship with Canada, Europe, and China. That’s why they’re defending them so bad and they don’t care if that’s gonna cost US citizens all their pocket money.\nPeople elect Donald Trump by majority accept it

I don't agree with tariffs. But Justin is a socialist. He agrees with interventionism. So he's to blame for rising costs as well. They're both at fault. He's in favor of universal health care. That's socialism. Now they pay the cost by having a medical care shortage. An MRI will take you many months. A surgery can take a year. Ridiculous. State wide monopolies don't work.

Unfortunately, in this speech, all J. Trudeau has shown is that Canada can be forced to implement irrational and costly programs (fentanyl/border security) while otherwise listing off every reason the United States has for annexing Canada. Canadian vulnerability is on full display and there are going to be plenty of famous ex-pats and wealthy citizens, who are already silent, and will soon be quietly, then vocally, supporting it. The Trump administration doesn't think Canada is a legitimate country and unlike Mexico, they feel it can absorb its demographic easily. This is how Anschluss works.

Canada costs the US billions, you sir haven’t been very been in a real fight you make peace by talking to your enemies fool there’s your sense and if you don’t want to do this make tariffs reciprocal this won’t hurt us it will hurt Canada

take back everything you instated for trump with border security and let them deal with there own drug problems... and start refusing american goods at the border... tell them we only pay a set amount or send it back! when the US asks why we did it we can tell them it was to cover the costs of tarriffs that trump thinks the government pays... well lets make his words ring true at their expense!

It’s very sad to see what is happening in the us. Thousands of jobs gone already, trade wars will cost who knows how many more. Musk as Trumps right hand man, the guy who wants to have 500,000 robots by 2027. No connection I am sure!!!

Email this morning said the tarrifs will cost our company $4.4 million per week. I guess no more free coffee.
|

We've tried telling them, hopefully you can get through to them. These idiots believe that ONLY the companies will be incurring the cost, NOT THE END CONSUMERS. Trump loves the uneducated!

The dialog between Canada and the US need to come together for a global solution to peace, prosperity and security. Everything is about transactions with this guy. \nThese tarrifs are obviously temporary and Canada needs to speak to Trump on Global issues and yes they need our inports, their cost of food is outrageous. He knows he needs the \nUS more than we need Canada. He could have put more security on the borders a long time ago but refused.\nHe will be done soon and he should have been more willing to stop the drugs and ended his term on a better note with solutions. Canada cant wait for him to step down. There were many more solutions he could have offered instead of coming off as a jerk. \nBuy USA products! We have to stop this dependence on other countries! The green deal is done..we dont need their trees.

This speech cost the Canadian people $200,000 in port wine and steak for Trudeau’s boat party tonight

Norway stand with you Canada in support, you held a good speech??!\n\nI look forward to seeing the outcome of the tariffs the U.S. imposes on other countries, which are then retaliated against. When the U.S. imposes tariffs on other countries and those countries retaliate, it can lead to several negative consequences. First, American consumers may face higher prices on both imported and domestic goods affected by retaliatory tariffs. U.S. exporters could lose market share in key markets, and American companies relying on global supply chains may experience higher costs. This could also trigger trade wars, reducing global trade and hindering economic growth. Increased uncertainty may reduce investments in the U.S., and in the long term, the U.S. could lose economic influence if other countries form alternative trade agreements. Countries turning their backs on the U.S. will eventually lead to the U.S. isolating itself. We can continue to trade among ourselves, build growth together, and watch the U.S. crumble from the outside. By the way i also respect and love the American people, just not the goverment today and how they treat others, allies and friends.

Businesses will be deregulated pollution will be off the charts all in attempt to justify this move and match cost

Trump has a funny way of doubling down on bad decisions rather than admitting he might have screwed up. So no matter what the cost to the public he will run the country off a cliff Before he changes course.

Up till now Canada has been the US’s biggest export destination. This BS by Trump will cost your country jobs, not to mention inflation. Time for an intervention!
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
I love how honest he is about it being tough, while Trump lies about how costs will go down even though they won’t. It’s unfortunate so many of my fellow Americans are uneducated in politics and don’t keep up with what’s actually going on
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
Not only is trumps strategy short sighted, they are infarct very destructive. trump is an ego maniac, and his BS needs to be stopped. all he has done is jack the cost of everything 25%. Why is that being allowed to happen?.

2018 Trump put tariffs on Canadian lumber and the cost to build a house or any thing requiring lumber went up. House insurance went up as the replacement cost using lumber had gone up. Any business with a relation to lumber had gone up. The US has given itself cancer and cut cancer prevention research. Trump is the unwitting AntiChrist.

The only one thing Trump is around for is to make everybody else his minions, that is what he works for to get his kicks from - all the Trump willie show is about that and that is his only card. He doesn't do politics or economics or any of that. He does his 'You Have To Be Minions' willie show, and he does fall out of his pants when people can't be tricked. - That is the one red line he can be identified for. Sure, there is danger as long as the citizens in the U.S. haven't got rid of this cancer cell. It is the modern Adolf Hitler. So make sure to get past him in the shortest time possible - with the smallest damage caused - by any chance. Observation and criticism towards this fascistoid psychopath is surely unavoidable, but it is also what he wants us to do: to spend all our time and attention on him. So let's focus most of our time and effort on building and strengthening what we know that needs to be there instead of this fascist. Improving Unity amongst us. And never bowing to any of the global bullies and fascists. People who can't build on their own turf, communicate their points in a civilised manner, but need to get physically violent instead, militarily, economically, institutionally, at the cost of other people's lives - are not on our agenda. // We will not bow to bully threats - not in our small worlds, and not globally either.

Trump is the ONLY ONE for Peace , NDP, Con & Libs are all played by Zelenski's warmongering to stay illegitimately in power since 2020. The country i live in is a Europeen farce. 51st will sound appealing when the Nukes starts blowing up. Look up Donbas's separatist, disposing of them to put guided missiles on the Russian Border and what REALLY started this . GOD DAMN, your ignorance is costing us World War 3 you bumch of imbecilles.

Donald probably hasn't stepped foot in a grocery store in his life. The MASSIVE inflation on commercial goods is a TAX disguised as a tariff. He knows it'll cost Americans. \n\nHowever, moment millions of people in the US begin losing jobs and begin rioting, he may pay attention.\nHow Americans aren't protesting in the streets right now is mind boggling to me.
|
| 2025-03-04 | 0 |
This idiot already quit, no one is listening to anything Trudeau has to say. Tariffs on the Americans only costs Canadians more, tariffs on Canadians make Canadians pay more. So you see, Liberals have to go, then tariffs go away. CANADA CAN NOT SURVIVE WITHOUT AMERICAN MARKETS LET THAT SINK IN. Cancelled pipeline, not paying up in NATO, not stopping drug flow, not fair in trade to the USA 200 billion in difference, you see the Liberals are in panic mode and its all their fault starting with his word salad speechs that mean nothing.

Trudeau should just go back to his home and wash his arms, smell his fingers and fall down n his face.\nThats my mean Canadian response to my a$$hole Prime Minister.\nThese tarrifs are now costing me more $$$…

I'd love to see MAGA explain this one... Canada did exactly what the president asks to avoid tarriffs and now what? Make America harder to live in because the cost of everything is increasing..... because of what? DEI? Some other Don Quixote windmill they want to fight?? I get fired at work if I don't make data-based decisions and make a clear case for why I am doing something. This administration has yet to explain why this is necessary. Show us the 'bad deal' we are getting, explain why it is bad... No more campaign rhetoric.

For example, if whiskey costs $1,000 and a 25% tariff is imposed, the price would increase by $250, making the total cost $1,250. The burden of this tariff is usually passed along the supply chain, meaning American consumers will pay higher prices for those goods.

Both of them stick to their population, at the end of the day who will carry this cost? Both Canadian and Americans bad for both

I am happy that this will increase the costs on the american people. I hope all provinces remove all USA produced alcohol from their shelves. I hope we apply levies on all energy and mineral exports to the USA. This would include potash, oil, power, nickel, uranium, lumber, etc. I have no ill will to the american people, but your president (whether you elected him or not, he is YOUR president) has started this and you, the american people, are going to end up paying more for everything in the very near future. Your president has now started the FA, and the US public is about to FO. This is NOT hurt any of your billionaires or politicians that brought this upon you. You cannot be upset at anyone than your elected officials.

What I don't understand the taxpayers are the ones that are flipping the government's tap. The billionaires are the ones that are causing the deficit to be so high. Why are they claiming the taxpayers to pay it out Donald Trump and his flunkies are the cause of August problem. The republicans just want more money and just because Joe Biden didn't lift up the. Spending costs Donald Trump got mad and now he's taking it out on the United States. People that pay his seat in the office right now.\n We're all working citizens in the United States. I've been flipped a bill that the government has done just to pocket their there. Money and no pay taxes. This is the billionaires that I'm talking about. Because the average workers middle class are the ones that are paying for all this government. And then you guys wanna raise everything because the year guys is doing taxpayers. Continue to keep paying and all you guys wanna do is keep taking their money. Another word's not to let them save money to buy homes. Dubai.

You mention that Americans are 30% more expensive than Canadians but you dont mention that the US is far more unequal with a Gini coefficient of 0.41 vs 0.35 in Canada. Now there is also a known issue with using GDP data to calculate productivity and that is that in sme countries the labor of GDP is much lower than in others. You then end up with Irish productivity being the second highest in the world only because most large US corporations operating in the EU register there to pay lower taxes but most of that revenue is just on paper for Ireland. or with Guyana whose oil and mining revenue makes it productivity equal to that of the US. Maybe that is the case, but is it? and if so why is the average wage in Guyana so much lower? so choosing only one specific stat can make any point of view seem true. you have to look at the bigger picture.\nnow the issue is Canada has been getting more unequal but it is still much better than the US. so what it means is that the higher worker productivity in the US benefits corporations and billionaires far more than it benefits the average American. now if we compare cost of living say between NYC and Toronto:\nCost of Living in Toronto is 37.5% lower than in New York, NY (without rent)
\nCost of Living Including Rent in Toronto is 47.1% lower than in New York, NY
\nRent Prices in Toronto are 59.2% lower than in New York, NY
\nRestaurant Prices in Toronto are 34.5% lower than in New York, NY
\nGroceries Prices in Toronto are 33.0% lower than in New York, NY
\nLocal Purchasing Power in Toronto is 7.2% higher than in New York, NY \nand this is similar when comparing almost all large Canadian cities with a comparable US one. And whilst housing and NIMBYIsm is real issue you have very similar issues in the US which also has almost no mix zoning. But throw in safety nets and go ask Canadians if they want to change for the US system. I doubt most will. Sure some want things to change but some assuming everyone wants an ultra capitalistic society. most are ok with less growth ut better balanced growth (the exact opposite of the boom and bust US model)

The country is a complete dumpster fire. The government took 40% of my paycheck and I just did my taxes, they insist I owe them $4000 more despite maxing out my RRSP. This is ontop of the astronomic housing costs.
|

Maybe you should do a story on how private equity is driving the cost of living and housing crisis.\n\nBillionaire tax cuts.

FEEDBACK: I've operated various businesses in Canada and all I can say is, 'never again'. The BUREAUCRACY grows in strength every year, issuing more & more regulations, stifling everything. For every new rule a bureaucrat introduces, an old rule should be retired.\n\nHOUSING: It's the Liberal Government policy to pander to immigrant voters that has put us down the wrong path. I'm amazed that so few people in, say, Vancouver who complain about the astronomical cost of rent and mortgages realize that their problem is directly caused by our WEAK policy of permitting new immigrants to move to Vancouver & Toronto , instead of the 1,000 other towns where they're desperately needed. How stupid are we, to not even understand the policy issue? \n\nMeanwhile, I actually lost my apartment block in Winnipeg because the market value dropped below the mortgage balance and the bureaucracy was killing me with their conflicting rulings. So, why did my block drop in market value? Because people were leaving Winnipeg, and Manitoba. EVERYONE went to Vancouver or Toronto. Thanks for nothing, stupid politicians.. the opposition isn't doing their job when Canadians don't know anything about this.

If my country doesn't get housing costs under control they're in serious trouble. The average house in the town I live in is something like 900K and there's basically no local economy. With costs so high I can't afford to start a family. If we keep gaining old folks needing healthcare while keeping housing expenses high and wages low taxes will have to keep going up.\n\nI am not going to continue to pay huge portions of my income for the benefit of the elderly while I can't afford a decent lifestyle. I don't want to but it seems moving to the US or elsewhere is the only option if things continue this way. At list point the local governments are so invested in denying housing permits and abusing zoning laws to prevent housing being built that the only way to fix it would be to strip the provinces and cities of the right to decide their own zoning bylaws. \n\nI want to see a change in the constitution that makes zoning bylaws illegal. There are too many people thinking of their self interest and not of the Nations interest. We deserve to lose the right to decide what can be built in our neighborhoods. We have been abusing this right for too long

I grew up on Vancouver Island and the local government didn’t allow for secondary suites. Then with housing crisis continuing the fact that province had to step in with a carrot and stick approach to municipal governments to approve more housing and change regulations stick being if you don’t meet targets you lose power and carrot you hit the targets you get cash this created a direct opportunity cost of nimbyism plus the federal government would top the amounts if a municipal government hit there housing targets. It changed really quickly the municipal government changed the law to allowing secondary suites to be built which the cost per square foot to build is 1/3 compared to new builds. This allows more rental properties and housing options and allows more people to purchase goods and services in the local area and not dramatically increasing the costs of new infrastructure to service them as compared to a new housing development on the outskirts of the city. A home could comfortably double it’s density every effectively, affordably and swiftly.

The reason real estate prices have gone 300% but incomes only 100% is because of low interest rates. If you factor in carrying costs, the numbers aren't as extreme. The challenge now is that interest rates have increased to stave off inflation generated primarily during the covid years. While this has somewhat abated, real estate carrying costs remain elevated and price growth has stagnated, while the Canadian dollar has fallen, effectively resulting in reduced housing valuations (in US dollar terms). Can we ride this out until incomes catch up? Will productivity increases promised by leading political challengers (election coming this year) move the needle? Are tariffs and 51st state rhetoric just a negotiating tactic and bluster, or something real? Nobody knows, but we will find out..
|
| 2025-03-03 | 0 |
High real estate prices have fueled hidden corruption by all levels of government. Until you try to build something you just can't imagine the fees and cost of regulation compliance. Since values keep rising there are more hands out demanding more by all levels of government. Another (sort of) related issue that has been ignored until recently has been Trudeau's reparations to First Nations. He has manipulated the courts and civil service to acquiesce to whatever is demanded. The province of BC just ceded sovereignty to an Island chain (Haida Gwaii) to an indigenous group that is against virtually any economic development. Northern Canada, as vast as is, is essentially blocked from new resource development. Every investment, including housing development, needs approval from, usually in the form of a payment to, an Indian Band. The level of corruption here is at South America levels.\n\nI think the unsaid part about excessive immigration levels the last few years was that was used to mask what the government was doing.
|
| 2025-03-03 | 2 |
Our city governments need to liberalise the housing market, in most cities across Canada it's illegal to build anything other than single family homes. When the developers eventually do push through a multi family building, they have to build a mega tower to offset the costs of the often 2 years approval process. Which makes people hate development more
