Stop the cap

I agree with the video and most of the comments. Trudeau's government destroyed the balance between ethnic backgrounds in Canada. They even brought the worst quality of immigrants and compromised on the reputation of Canadian education. Ironically, the conservative provincial government is debating the cap on international students. Everyone is looking for his own benefits and no one care about Canada.

Deport everyone that came here in the last 8 years and cap immigration at 100K. \n\nTrudeau is buying votes just like his step father did.

This is why the US has country caps based on place of birth to prevent situations like this from happening. Canada needs a country cap based on place of birth or else Canada will become an Indian colony.

And what the most I hate when Punjabis truck drivers don't obey the laws of traffic. They have this nature of not respecting the laws back their home country and when they come here they do the same here. The international students were sold the easy PR dream. They will never admit it because they state on their visa application that they are going to return home after completing their studies. This lax immigration policies gave rise to all the shady colleges and diploma mills that you see today and we are now seeing the consequences of it which the locals have to suffer and the international students as well. What surprises me more is the students own lack of research in todays day and age of technology. Even the skilled immigration route like the Express Entry has no cap so that those streams can slow down once it's reached its cap for the year and IRCC can focus on the next set of skills that are in shortage in the country. There is so much redundancy in skill sets that actual areas where skills are needed is lacking today. It's a complete mess. The government has bottled it big time.

Okay so ever sonce the rent caps were REMOVED by the provincial government back in 2018, yhe amount of homelessness has gone through the roof, that and the fact that in Ontario the Provinical government has froze social assistance and disability service rates. In my opinion, those who are against decriminalization just do not understand the real goal and intention behind the policy in the first place. It's not decriminalization itself that caused the problem- it was decriminalization without other adequate programs or policies that supported it. For example, decriminalization keeps more people out of prisons because the prison and legal systems are a complete and total mess. But along with that, they didn't really focus on specialized programs to help treat and care for those addicted. So, people are being kept out of jail but they don't have any affordable housing to go to instead so they end up on the streets. Therefore, decriminalization (which I support) must be done in collaboration with other policy like better regulating (and capping) housing and food costs, healthcare and immigration policy, adequate shelter and social programs as well as extensive treatment (harm reduction or abstenince since both have their place). Otherwise we get what is currently happening in this video.

If I was Prime Minister. I would Ban the immigrant Visa program for the next 10 years. I would deport anyone who has overstayed there welcome (those with expired visas) or are here (illegally) and now (not documented) \n\nThat alone would take many out of the shelters, homes, rentals, streets that should not be in the Country anymore. Leaving the resources and the people who work and volunteer for those resources to help the Canadian people (which would be the prime reason for this) Canadians first ! \n\nI would cut the Carbon Tax. Lower the Property Tax. Put a cap on all Strata fees. Lower the deficit. \n\nBuild more Hospitals and treatment centers. Put a ban on drugs and safe injections (as we know there is no such thing) \n\nMake it mandatory for those in need due to drug and mental issues (that have been diagnosed with such) to go to treatment centers (while building more centre's and hiring qualified professionals workers) to stop the crisis. \n\nChange laws on crimes and the time and penalty behind them. Doubling and tripling the time served and raising bail fees by 50% to keep folks that have criminal pasts off the streets <---- for first time offenders. \n\nFor those that have multiple offenses. Quadruple the jail times and put bail amounts 100% more then what they are now. \n\nGive those that kill, ra*e, torture, (and things along that nature (the death penalty) \n\nI would remove the mandate for Electric Vehicles for Canada. Where only 1 vehicle per manufacturer would have to be Electric. So if somebody wants it. It's there but the majority would be. Gas / Diesel etc. \n\nI would build more housing / schools / retirement homes / hospitals / recreation centre's / Library and walk in Clinics. \n\nI would write a law that the roads in Canada must be fixed properly. Not just patched. \n\nI would raise the taxes on Multi Million and Billion Corporations and those that make $400.000 or more to pay a higher tax. While those that make less than $400.000 get taxed less. \n\nI would Lower the provincial taxes by 2% effective immediately and the Minimum wage across all provinces would be $17.75 an hour for full time workers (over 32 hours per week) with .25 cent yearly increases until 2030 to be reassessed. \n\nI would give Tax cuts to those who want to open businesses and build and sell Canadian Products to make sure Canadian Goods are affordable to make. Still have a profit to slow down overseas production creating more Canadian jobs for Canadian People. \n\nEvery Worker that works 24 hours or more weekly is getting Benefits making it mandatory for all types of business owners to make benefits available to the workers and ensuring the plan covers a minimum of 50% throughout the entire year. \n\nI would raise the pension to those who have worked 25+ years in Canada and remain in Canada as a retiree for a minimum of 6 months of the year 5% \n\nShrinkflation will stop. With major corporations getting fined if they don't smarten up and change the way the make and package goods. \n\nI would put a cap on Car insurance for those that have never been in an accident before and lowering the monthly cost by 10% \n\nCondo sizes would have to increase the square footages by a minimum of 10% of the national average to make sure that there is enough room and peaceful environment for those that live in those spaces. \n\nI would ban that you would have to pay additional for parking at every Rental property including lockers, that the property owners purchased during pre construction as well as lower the public parking costs nation wide in parking garages by 20% and cap it. \n\nI would Lower transit costs nation wide by 20% and cap it. \n\nI would bring back texts books and paper to schools so kids read more. Write more. Understand more. Learn more for those in grade 8 and under. \n\nI would ban every Pride event in Canada and charge people fines if they hang rainbow colored Canadian flags anywhere on any property including ban clothing with those colors on the Canadian Flags immediately. Failure to do so would also Ban same sex marriage the following year on the same date that the first ban was made if Failure to comply. \n\nI would ban any book or literature for kids that is LGQTB written. \n\n& that is just the beginning.

Needed is a General Canadian Census of everybody, immigrants and homeless tent and vehicle dwellers so that a current population count is obtained. Next, build density apartments to house everybody, not luxury condos or apartments that are overpriced. Bring back the rent cap to Canada under control of the Federal Housing Minister.

The problem with immigration is the quality of immigrants, this country still needs quality immigrants to fulfill top level positions, in the recent years Canada got flooded with too many international students for various college degrees, as i’ve heard there are some colleges in Toronto which only has one classroom in a building but they have so many students enrolled ? and bringing in more refugees makes the housing and job situation even worse. On the other hand government had to remove the 20hour work cap of international students to run this economy ?

Trudeau and the Liberals have made so many major mistakes. It is time for a major change in Canada. A number of changes need to be made. Including putting a cap on all immigration, until everything can be balanced again. Along with eliminating our carbon tax. All of these choices are making things unsustainable within our economy, and higher inflation for everyone. Our current administration is out of control. Well now foreign students can work as many hours as they want now. So they used to be capped at 20 hours a week to Joe unlimited hours, thus making it even harder for a Canadian kid or student trying to find a job.

Most of it's from India because we just put a 2 year cap on visa applications. We made it harder for people to get into the country, so of course many will decide to stay with family now that they can't move all their family over.

This story is misleading and the Title is completely false. Canada's Student population doubled in 3 years and Canada went from 7th highest Foreign Student Population per capita to 2nd, so the Canadian Student housing situation worsened quickly. So the Trudeau Government put a cap on Foreign Students and offered low interest loans to Universities to immediately expand Student housing. Canada has seen NO drop in citizen applications and still refuses far more applications then it approves. So with even Canada's low birth rate still combined with immigration Canada's population is the fastest growing per capita of Western Democracies at an annual population increase of over 1 million people a year. So the Headline about Citizen applications which had nothing to do with the story of Foreign Students.\nAlso I want to add they stated that the gentleman had set up a business to bring home students from Canada when in the interview he stated that Canada was only one of the Countries but stating it the true way is less dramatic and doesnt fit their Narrative. Also the story was clipped from India a Nation that has been ata diplomatic war with Canada for a year after their Government Murdered a Canadian Landed Citizen. So their Governement put out a warning for their Citizens going their amongst other revenge moves. So the story has so many outside bias to be sensible.

This is such a badly researched report from BBC. The title of the video talks about citizenship applications dropping but they provide no data to back it up even if it's true. Then they only go to Punjab and talk to a student who left Canada before they became a PR. So that's irrelevant to the story. Then a chunk of the report is about the international student cap which in no way reduces current citizenship applications. The report should only concentrate on PRs leaving the country or choosing to not apply for citizenship. They only had one example of that in the whole video. Also interview PRs from other places other than Punjab. The story might be the same but it's good to know.

This is a fairytale ghost country where people are not encouraged to do creative things like innovation and business entrepreneurship, everything is capped by tax and government beaucracy. Here people buy lowest quality of products with highest price. Canada is a great country I have be here for over half a century raised my family. The culture has changed with the times with Govt Policies put the test resulting in skyrocketing COL like food rents housing costs etc and lack of it not making Canada desirable at this time. The Cap on Foreign Students represents a \nCooling Off period for Canada which will prove beneficial in the coming years. All Indian and Foreign Students have been productive constructive ambitious and disciplined who all made a positive contribution to Canada. Times have changed and Govts will also Change with time. Indian news exaggerating the situation in Canada. I've been living in Canada past 5 years. I've never made more money and never lived my life better. \n\nWhen a million students come to study every year in 2 major intakes, it's obviously hard to find jobs. Canadian government has rightfully put a cap on this number to prevent this. The only mistake they did was not putting a cap 3-4 years ago.

I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

Canada should put visa cap including immigration per country....follow the American policy. Its simply too many Indians that is changing the demographic balance by one ethnic group called Indian. And International student should not have full time work authorization, its directly hitting the location population employment opportunities.
