I have heard the skilled laborer argument for years. Canadian governments keep saying we need to bolster the work force with immigrants. I've heard this for 20+ years, and they're still saying it. It hasn't worked because bringing in immigrants only treats the symptoms not the cause.

Peope dont realise this but there is no stopping immigration in Canada. The stock market anticipates huge immigration as it is the only feasible path towards growing corporate profits. If we dont have huge immmigration, the purchasing power of boomers, derived from a booming market and real estate market, will lead to massive inflation as labor shortages occur. There is nothing we can do to stop this. Boomers are going to vote Liberal and liberals will continue to flood the country with third world immigrants who cook, clean, drive, caretake, etc. Millenials and gen Z are the ones who will never own a home or start a family. And ironically the low birth rate will lead to even more immigration. I suspect that Canada will be primarily asian and african by 2060.

We have too many University graduates in Canada. The country needs basic laborers not people with Masters degrees in Medieval studies.

Lots of hating on J Trudeau here but Harper is the one that drastically expanded the temporary foreign worker programme. And he subsidized it so said workers only had to be paid 75% of minimum wage by the company hiring them while the gvmnt paid the rest. Companies literally pay less than min for tfws and the government pays the rest. That's why they are prioritized. Harper did this. Trudeau made it worse. Pollivere would not have stopped it. The current government will only expand it. Minor parties are being sidelined, bribed, or otherwise shit down across the political spectrum. NDP sold out long ago. It does work… In the end, after 10 years, the liberals won again. I don’t see any reason for them to change their ways if it brings them success in our democracy. The new immigrants make a powerful voting block and as your numbers increase, their power will also increase… And I do think Canada is a very attractive destination, given all the government subsidies… Healthcare, dental care, child care, Pharma care… Subsidized, housing… To say nothing of the special refugee and immigrant programs…

The great tragedy is that small town Canadian students who wish to seek opportunities in large cities, will never be able to afford to rent let alone buy… They are doomed to live in their small towns and hold on to small dreams… Here in Vancouver, the new immigrants wish to stay in and invest in large urban areas. They have extended family support to buy the real estate. Small-town Canadians don’t have a chance in this competition.

My neighbour is a high skilled import for a Canadian job. Now he still lives in Canada but works remote for a US organization and he still isn’t a citizen. Something smells fishy, huh. I’m a high skilled Canadian but couldn’t find permanent work after a layoff in 2015. Funny how in my contract roles I constantly work alongside so many new arrivals that find work 2 months after they get here. I’m sure $$ in wages and subsidies were involved.

Canada's immigration system has lowered the bar big time. What happened to their mandate after '67 that was supposed to be focused on permitting entry to only skilled immigrants? Now, they're letting any immigrant with a pulse come in. As a result, rents and housing prices have skyrocketed, and now the average Canadian can no longer afford to buy a home. Of course, it doesn't help that the government got out of the homebuilding business decades ago; big mistake. Our government has done this country a huge disservice.

For some yet to be explained reason, the entire western world is doing the exact same thing. Its intentional civilizational suicide.

The problem: we still have technocrats that think more people are essential to "growth".
