I was on a H1b visa from 2007 to 2013 (six year term, didn't apply for Green card, had to leave), came back on a L1A visa in 2017which ties you to a specific employer without any option of quitting, applied for Green card (L1A has a fast lane for gc) but before my priority date came my visa extension was denied and I was forced to leave.. I moved to Canada in 2020, event with Covid delays got my PR in 2022, bought a house in Toronto in 2022. Though I am making bit less than what I could have if in USA I am happy to pay my taxes to Canada.

Well I had a kid this year in Québec, it was like 250$ for a single room or 20$ for double room or something. \nYeah some hospital would sell our informations to banks and diapers or food manufacturers... still cheaper than 3000$USD\nFor student I'd say if you are citizen of canada, it's like 10 time cheaper to study here than in US as far as I've seen.\nViolence is something really sad. I'd really wish that just guns were restrain for hunting and special forces, like police officer or body gard of gouvernment selected individual accredited to hold a weapon for defence.\nI've heard that in USA police don't all have to go through police academy that teach them how be an officer. Here they have to go to school, be cadets in summer break, have your attitude checked to de-escalat violent situation if possible.\nWhen I was a in high school violence was in drop in school, so much that they withdraw the officer that was station to that school to just do some one time per year presentation of what to do for security, to absolutely nothing.

I lived two years in the south of the usa (in Texas) during my childhood in the 90's and it wasn't so bad. Weather was great ! People nice and great ! I did love the school there, I learn English there and math was super easy. In Canada, I went in a catholic schools and we were obligated to say a prayer before class begin. In Texas in my elementary school, everyone is up in the morning before class and there is a swear thing to say not the betray the USA with the right hand on the heart of our chest… \nSo… First day of school in an other country, in an other language that I didn't understand or speak, I did joined my hands together . I was correct by my classroom teacher and make me a sign to do like the other kids. So I did. I’m a Canadian snowbird. Most of day to day life is not much different between Canada and USA. Sales tax is a little higher in Canada, and some of the insurance rules and options are a bit different. Overall costs seem a bit higher in USA. However, health costs are way(!) different. Last year I had some lung blood clots in Arizona. I went to local hospital and was admitted for 22 hours. I was investigated quickly and efficiently, and discharged on a blood thinner. \n\nThe hospital costs were $21,000 US$. A foreigner coming to Canada and being admitted would likely have paid ~$2,000-$3,000. The drug cost for one month supply in Arizona was $750 US$. In Canada, it costs $25/month.\n\nThe US politics are certainly more entertaining in the USA than in Canada. Also, the recognition of military and military service is much more a big deal in USA

My 28 year old son was laid off during Covid. While laid off he suddenly developed epilepsy and started having clusters of severe seizures and needed periodic hospitalization.\nIn Canada he was given 5 days of 24/7 seizure monitoring. From that they determined brain surgery was the best option so he got the surgery and is now recovering and getting therapy for recovering some of the language skills that were affected by the surgery. He has had no seizures since the surgery.\n\nThe point of all this is that in the USA my son would have had no coverage for any of this and we would all either be bankrupt or he would remain untreated. Our cost in Canada has been $0.

If healthcare was better I’d live in the USA. Taxes are cheaper way more history there bigger cities warmer climates but I’m not paying hundreds to thousands just to get some medical attention where in Canada it’s free.

I loved living in the States. I loved the USA Patriotism of the ppl. (exclude the rare arrogant ones but I'm a tough cookie from Canada & arrogance can be found anywhere) I loved the historical federal buildings in towns/cities. So much well preserved history. The USA has common gun ownership, almost no social programs, and you would not have to rely on police to save you from scum. Canada has social programs, but too much gun control. The best type of country would have social programs along with every citizen having their own armory. ?

I am a dual citizen, spending 6 months/year in Canada, working remotely for a Canadian bank. It was pretty comfortable living in Canada years ago, however I'd prefer living in the US now. Canadian advantage over USA, healthcare system, is deteriorating very fast, with hordes of new immigrants coming every year ... Canada soon will be a hostile to the US country with current levels of immigration from Asian countries unfriendly to USA. I am considering leaving Canada for good, heading back to the US or moving to Portugal/Spain, selling a house in Canada will allow buying a nice property elsewhere.

Your country has amazing national parks, wildlife, marvellous regional accents, and fascinating history. My recent project is visiting your stunning national seashores. We are lucky to be peaceful neighbours, seriously.

According to Forbes it is about 14k for natural delivery, 18k for a c-section and it should cost 2-3K for co-pay. We must realize that this is of course the quote for complication free births. \n\nI had premature twins in Canada and the cost would have been over 1 million in the USA. My sons had an American nurse who chose to immigrate to Canada because the billing aspect of her job was stressful. According to this nurse she had to bill the family for every pacifier that hit the ground etc… Scanning every bar of soap etc… \nThe problem with Canadian healthcare is people treat it like it is free so there is a lot of waste. Nurses don’t scan so they give stuff etc… Also people go to the ER for flu’s which is very costly on the system. If Canadians were more conscious the system would be better!

I married a Québécoise and moved from the USA to Québec 7 years ago. I learned French. If we had to rely on public health care, she would have died. We get timely excellent private medical care in Québec and the USA at reasonable cost. If you're lucky enough to live in a province/city with good treatment for whatever ails you, that's great. But if care is lacking for your situation in Canada, you have to travel and pay, or you will suffer and possibly die.

I'm a dual citizen, born & raised in Canada; my mom was an American, my dad a Canadian, they met in Detroit. I'm very glad they chose to settle in Canada and raise their children here. (My American mom preferred Canada. She was a stage 3 cancer survivor who outlived all her American relatives and she believed she outlived them because of Canadian healthcare.) Although I'm eligible as a dual citizen, I would never live in the US because of the cost and lack of universal health care and the gun culture in some states. I also dislike the polarization in the USA and worry we be headed the same way. Sadly, many Americans the myth of American exceptionalism.

I can't blame that pregnant person for wanting out. Average hospital bill in the USA for chiildbirth is between 5,000 and 11,000 dollars according to google, and that doesn't include aftercare and pre-natal care. In Canada it's covered by the province.

I've had about 8 friends and 2 relatives who have tried life in the USA.\nOne cousin is still in Colorado after moving there with her 2nd husband, an American, over 10 years ago. The rest have come back to Canada and the biggest general impression I get is that it is simply a huge relief to get out of there. That is a huge contrast to the people I know who had tried life in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Europe, Thailand, Japan, VietNam, Australia, and New Zealand: far fewer of them have come back to Canada because they are happy with life there. And the ones who have come back all have things they miss about the countries and most want to go back someday.\n\nMost of the people I know who have come back from the USA are highly critical of the utter lack of a decent health care system in the USA, but for them it was a solvable problem because they had decent jobs and insurance while they were in the USA. What gave them so much relief when they came back to Canada was that during their time in the USA they never felt safe. There is something fundamentally and brutally fucked up about a country where every bank has armed guards, the mall cops are armed, half of the people in your neighbourhood are armed, you're scared to send your children to school, and every time you turn around you see a cop with his hand on his gun.

I think it depends on your personal wealth. USA is great for successful people and sucks for lazy commies... it's the reverse for Canada, sucks for upper middle class and up, great for lazy people who wants to live off state programs.

I’ve been privileged to actually live and work for long periods of time in USA, Netherlands, and China…and in a variety of locations in each country. Until recently, I’d have chosen Canada without hesitation. Canada has been rocketing into an ideological cesspool rivalling China, but so has USA and the Netherlands. As for the future…if I were middle aged (as opposed to OLD!) I would go to southeast USA Fla or Tx. Not because they are ‘better ‘ right now, but I believe USA still has a chance to sort itself out but Canada is simply too screwed up and corrupt (morally, politically, socially, & financially) to recover at least in my lifetime. I was living in northern China (Harbin) when that idiot Trudeau became PM and hoped he had a chance to improve things in general. But it is clear he (or whoever is pulling his vapid strings) has been a disaster and his current opposition shows signs of being equally awful. I believe US citizens care far more for their constitution and freedoms and more aware of the perilous situation they’re in than Canadians, many of whom still believe we have a functioning health care system. My cousin, who is Canadian, had always wanted to move to the USA to practice law there. She went to law school at University of Michigan and passed the Bar in Florida. She practised law at a big firm for a few years until she paid off her student loans. She quit her job, moved back to Canada and works for a big university here. She doesn't even go back to visit people.

If I had to choose between Canada and USA I would choose Canada because of similarities to countries I have lived in like the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

I’m currently living in Canada and have lived in the USA. I can safety say the health care system sucks. I had to take my wife to the hospital because of an eye infection, we had to wait for 8 hours to be seen, the doctor was arrogant and sent us out in 2 mins. We had to travel to USA to get treated. Some can say you don’t have health care completely in Canada, the housing is completely expensive here, govt artificially limits supply of housing and drives up housing cost, the pay is less in Canada compared to USA. The Canadian PM is bigger joker compared to other world leaders.

There are Canadians that have the money, have private health care plans from the U,S.\nIf they have an issue and there is a backlog in their local availability, they go use their U.S. health coverage.\nThere was a lady in British Columbia who was confined to her home due to waiting for a hip operation.\nDue to the number of hours required for the operation, she was on a 2 year waiting list.\nIn Canada you can not pay for your own operation if it is covered by the state, no matter how much money you have, I guess you can go to the sates if you can afford it.\nIn Toronto I have not had a family doctor in 7 years, there are no openings.
