Seriously speaking i love this city but as you said it is very expensive to live in live in the midtown both my wife and myself are full time workers and we are managing the expenses, the declining ratio is for sure i blame the government, the bad thing is no matter what every other immigrant whether they lands in halifax or calgary they move to Gta or in toronto, the government should have a check and balance to those people who are nominated in other provinces and moved to Toronto, i dont blame the people it is the government they need to make the opportunity in every province and put a cap on the individual if you are landed in Saskatchewan you should stay in the same place for almost 5 years, if a person or a family live constantly for 5 years at one place they don’t even try to think to move any-other city unless they have some serious issues their, i am also an immigrant a landed PR from Pakistan Alhumdulillah i work hard my wife does the same Managing the expenses but it’s true it is not affordable for everyone now.

This is a great video and so true.. but I have looked to escape the US, I am more than financially-free and no family in the states becaused they all died. I lived places for months at a time in the world, its also very lonely when you don't speak the local language or are not part of the culture. I lived on many parts of Europe and South America and traveled to 59 countries.. We are not a part of those cultures, it may make more sense to find communities in the US in rural areas that have co-living, co-working spaces..

Firstly it’s not easy but at the end of it is would have been worthwhile it especially for your kids. Besides 2 months is too early to judge and make such a big decision. Lastly no one calls people to their country it your choice… you should be grateful you had family it was way easier for you. Fixing things is something you do anywhere in the world. Basement stay was a choice you should rent a house if you could afford it. Education system has changed world wide. Job should be an affiliate certification world recognized if not you start a level lower. Like u said your kids it was good that is the reason you should have stayed. Road rules again worldwid. I lived in the US for 30 years. I hated every year, except for having my sons there. My American husband is a staunch NRA supporter. At the 30 year mark, when I gave him an ultimatum. I gave him 30 years down there, and the time had come where he needed to do 30 years in Canada. We've been in Canada for 6 years, and he doesn't ever want to go back.\nI feel for the new mothers, who only get 6 weeks maternity leave (8 weeks for C-Section).\nCanadian Mums get a full year. Nurturing your new baby is necessary for a well-balanced child. You can't bond in 6 weeks. \nYour health insurance is nuts. We paid $1500/mo. just for our family. Then you have a $5k deductible first! Just walking into the ER is $500 and THEN add on labs, x-rays, meds, etc. My son was in mental health treatment and our insurance capped mental health at $25k for life. \nThe biggest slap up my head, was when I found out I CAN'T collect my SSI. I paid a lot of taxes, since we made 6 figures/year. So, now I'm screwed, since they won't pay a former Permanent Resident. Had I been a citizen, I could get it. My husband is a PR in Canada, waiting to take his citizenship test. If he applies for SSI, he needs to go down to the States for 30 days and nights, annually. \nI'm from Toronto, born and raised and I am so happy to have my feet back in my own country. My boys are still there, as well as my grandchildren. Thankfully, they fly up twice a year. You couldn't pay me to move back.

Canada was good, but it has gone downhill immencely in the past decade or so. We are now in the top 5 countries on earth for housing cost to income ratio. Many Canadians can't even afford a home or rent here any more. A one bedroom apartment in Toronto where I live can go for 2,400 a month. Millions of immigrants arriving and the economy has largely stagnated despite all these new people. Lots of blindly partisan Liberals here though that will never admit the country is in serious decline. Don't let them lecture you about healthcare and social safety nets either there are literally MILLIONS of people in Ontario our largest province where I live that can't even access a family doctor even if they were willing to pay for one. With the number of people not being able to access basic medical services here I would not call it unviersal any more.

I have been living in Sydney for the last 23 years. Originally from Fiji and my ancestors were from India. Was watching this episode and want to correct a few things. \nAll the Supermarkets are open till 10pm, most chemists are open till 10pm, restaurants are opened till 9.30 to 10pm. Major fast food chains open 24hours. I think this person hasn’t explored Sydney properly. One thing a person should think before going to another Western country is that we can’t bring the whole country or lifestyle food families with us. Life is a struggle but once you tackle these issues you will love to live the Western lifestyle. \nAustralia is such a beautiful country to live.

Came to Canada in 2008 (to Quebec). Got my family doctor (a team of doctors in the polyclinic) last year. Same for our kids, born here. Canada also doesn't acknowledge medical degrees or experience from other countries. They protect the salaries of the doctors by artificially limiting the number of doctors that can practice. Therefore doctors leave Canada... Electrical engineers also should avoid QC if they don't speak fluent French... Quebec is discriminating against the English speaking community and gets away with it. Anglophones in Quebec are also subject to higher unemployment...

Hospital wait times in Canada are a nightmare because EVERYONE goes to the ER for EVERYTHING and ANYTHING. \n We don’t have “Urgent care clinics” like you have in the USA. \nWe have walk in clinics (basically just family physicians who don’t actually take on patients on a permanent basis and close by like 4pm \nYour kid has a cold - emergency room\nLittle scrape falling off a swing set - emergency room\nStung by a bee? - emergency room\n\nNo one has any idea how to care for themselves here. Can’t bring down a fever with Tylenol, can’t clean a wound that doesn’t require medical intervention, can’t do anything because we’ve been so coddled with “free medical care”

I've been here from August 26th. I live in Saskatoon. Found a job in 8 days, I didn't have a career back home, except for being a mechanic, saftey guy and 2 more diplomas. I started from ground up working at grocery shop, paid the bills, smoked that good weed, can video call my family everyday, hanging out with the boys and chilling. \n\nBut I understand how most people who had a career back in their home is having trouble getting the exact one here. I’ve been privileged to actually live and work for long periods of time in USA, Netherlands, and China…and in a variety of locations in each country. Until recently, I’d have chosen Canada without hesitation. Canada has been rocketing into an ideological cesspool rivalling China, but so has USA and the Netherlands. As for the future…if I were middle aged (as opposed to OLD!) I would go to southeast USA Fla or Tx. Not because they are ‘better ‘ right now, but I believe USA still has a chance to sort itself out but Canada is simply too screwed up and corrupt (morally, politically, socially, & financially) to recover at least in my lifetime. I was living in northern China (Harbin) when that idiot Trudeau became PM and hoped he had a chance to improve things in general. But it is clear he (or whoever is pulling his vapid strings) has been a disaster and his current opposition shows signs of being equally awful. I believe US citizens care far more for their constitution and freedoms and more aware of the perilous situation they’re in than Canadians, many of whom still believe we have a functioning health care system. All this is coming to you from a Canadian septuagenerian, highly educated by what was (decades ago) the best educational system in the Western Hemisphere. One who benefited from a wonderful health care system before it got farmed out to private corporations and became a haven for niche specialties while starving out the family physicians who were the front line for proactive family care. Can u tell I’m cranky yet? ?? Might as well laugh about it at this point. P.S. @22:25, Don't raise a family in America??? \nI can take you to areas in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) which are really bad. A young person said to me he will not go to that area, if he had to, he would take a knife with him.

FYI, the Canadian Provincial health care is a shambles. Each province has their own health care system. A national system would make much more sense. In Toronto, there are many who can't find a family doctor, nurses in hospitals are overworked and mistreated, hence, they're leaving the profession. Those living in smaller communities must travel great distances for routine appointment, or emergency care. Our federal government does not recognize foreign trained medical professional qualifications, so they leave or work multiple minimum wage jobs. All I know about U.S. health care is that it's $$$$$$$$$.

The USA is the only developed country that does net have maternity benefits. Families get 18 months in Canada

I'm Canadian. I was born here, raised here, and have lived here all my life. However, my parents are American (they came during the Vietnam war), and I have full dual citizenship. I could cross the border into the U.S., get a job, start working and live there for the rest of my life if I ever chose to do so.\n\nHowever, I will never live in the U.S. Why? The cost of healthcare insurance and healthcare in general is definitely a part of that, but another huge factor is the socio-political atmosphere down there that is very unappealing to me. Everything from politics, the gun issue, much higher violence than we have in Canada, more racism issues, the media, and from what I have observed from decades of visits to the U.S.: there just seems to be a lot more people that are on edge and hostile than I am used to compared to Canada as well. For me, the general culture and mindset is just not something I want to live amongst.\n\nThere are some things I enjoy in the U.S., and there ARE wonderful people there too. I have several friends in the U.S. (born and raised), not to mention my entire extended family is American. But for me, the U.S. is a nice enough place to visit, but it's not somewhere I'd ever want to live.\n\nNo matter what kind of trip I take to the U.S., whenever I get back home to Canada it's always like a deep sigh of relief. I feel safer. I feel more relaxed. I feel at home. No matter how good my trip was, when I set foot back on Canadian soil again I always get a feeling of humble gratitude that I live here. For me, other than the warmer weather and some of the sights the U.S. has to offer, I'm much, much happier in Canada. I feel very fortunate to live here.\n\nAs a side note, I have never found our public healthcare system here in Canada to be lacking whatsoever. Any healthcare I, or anyone else I know that has received any, has always been prompt, of excellent quality, and reassuringly delivered in a professional manner.\n\nAs an example, in 1994, my father had a seizure and it was discovered that he had a benign brain tumour that had to be removed. Not even a week later, he was booked for his surgery and he had his procedure. He was operated on by one of the top two neurosurgeons in North America at the time, he spent three weeks in recovery at the hospital, and he had months of rehab afterward. About 2 weeks later, he had another seizure (the last one he ever had), he stayed in another hospital for an additional two weeks.\n\nHowever, all of what I just mentioned, and I mean ALL of it, was paid for by our public healthcare system. All he had to do was show his healthcare card and sign a release form for his surgery, and that was it. Nothing more. There were literally ZERO bills, no insurance companies, no paperwork, no phone calls, and ZERO hassle. Nothing.\n\nAnd no, our family was NOT rich or privileged either. Just an average middle class family. However, my dad's neurosurgeon told us his surgery and all the months of care he received afterward would have cost $180,000 (in 1994!), and our family would have been out on the street if it wasn't for our healthcare system. My dad also had a very minor heart attack in 2007 which didn't require surgery, and he didn't have to pay a dime or do anything else other than show his healthcare card for that either. Since those two events, my father has lived a healthy, normal life thanks to our public healthcare.\n\nIn Canada, EVERYONE receives that kind of care, regardless of if they are a billionaire or they are homeless. Because that's the moral and ethical thing to do, and is just one of the many reasons why I plan on staying here.

I have a couple of friends who moved to the US and they would probably tell you that it’s not a bad place to live and raise your family. But, they live in Southern California and Arizona so they are living in far better climates then they ever had in Canada. Their spouses were able to get extremely good jobs that pay a lot more than they would ever be paid in Canada so they live in gated communities, their children all go to private schools, they can afford the best health insurance plans and so they are insulated from all the biggest issues that are found in the US. Being higher income families they never had to utilize any of the social security programs such as unemployment, maternity leave (they were able to stay with their child their whole childhoods), health insurance (always able to pay copays and any costs above what their insurance will cover), no worries about daycare or food stamps. They really don’t have a clue how a very high percentage of US citizens actually function daily and I think they would not be happy there if they were forced to ‘mingle with masses’

I would never want to be American and have often thanked God that i was born in Canada. I have a lot of health problems due to an elderly women almost killing me in a car accident amongst other condotions. If i was American my family would be bankrupt. A nurse came from america to work here in canada due to their healthcare care system. Her hospital wouldnt admit the man dieing of a heart attack or even do cpr until they got the insurance info. We do have our issues here in Canada. You won the lottery if you have a Family doctor here. I've been waiting more than 7 years for one as it is a wait list thing. Even with that, I'd refuse to pay to see a doctor in the US.

90% of us live an hour from the border.. so it makes sense for us to use the social health care when we can. and if we REALLY need it. We can still go pay in the :USA.. My wife if from Mexico and when we have kids we are moving back to Canada so she gets paid $1400 a month or more to STAY home and take care of our children. once they are ready for school we are moving back to Mexico where we both want to be. Canada is just where we come when we need to make extra money with my job. Trudeau RUINED Canada beyond all repair. I can see a Neurologist in Mexico for $1500 pesos... $115CAD immediately. Canada that would be a solid 6 month process...1-2 months to see you family practician and then 3-6 months to hear back from a specialist....THEN another 1-2 month to go over results with your Doc again lol...its a joke. Doctors get paid everytime we swipe out health card.. so theres also a problem with them referring to their friends from school...rather than the BEST specialist for you.... first world problems..

I'm one. I moved to the U.S. in 1995, though I still vote in Canadian federal elections, and I have family and property there. I'm still very much Canadian, regardless of what some think. I donate to my university (Carleton) alumni association, and I'm an associate member of the Legion. My career was floundering before I left, so I accepted a job offer in the U.S. I haven't stopped working since. I'm very grateful for the opportunities the U.S. gave me.

A lot of Canadians who do move to the US, do so for career development and advancement. My cousin moved to the US and works in IT. He makes like, 5x what he could staying in Canada. He, with his family, is staying and never plans to come back.\nAdditionally, I think the thing that Canadians appreciate about our health care is that we don't have to think abut it. We don't have to assume that giving birth or going to the doctor will cost and that the cost may have some variability. It jut makes it way less stressful, as health scares are stressful enough as they are. But it is true that availability is an issue. I'd say our quality of care isn't too far behind, but I'm not particularly knowledgeable on that.

we lived in the USA for 14 years and actually because citizens before we moved back to Canada, and to this day, maintain dual citizenship. The health care was the biggest difference. Fighting with health care providers to get them to pay their portion of a bill was the WORST. They automatically turn down every claim the first time around so you have to get on the phone and fight with them. In the USA, you can only see doctors within your health care provider, or you have to pay full on to see someone outside it. You also have to pay to see your family doctor even if its for a annual check up. NONE of that happens in Canada. Health care in Canada is provided by the government. Health care in America is a BUSINESS, and they are all fighting for your $$. Being self employed in the USA was an eye opener, with a $1100. a month premium, so that we had a reduced annual deductible. No deductible or monthly premiums in Canada. Americans should NOT HAVE TO DECLARE BANKRUPTCY just because they get sick. Otherwise, we loved living there. Great people, awesome Mexican food (you can't get that in Canada), beautiful beaches and excellent access to them. Amazing highway systems,. At the time we lived there, housing was affordable, food and clothing were cheaper than Canada. None of that is true these days. You guys pay as much as we do for food and shelter.

When you say that most people get along fine with your system of healthcare, it should be pointed out that statistics indicate that 500,000 families a year in the US go bankrupt due to medical expenses.

You say you can raise a loving normal family and live a happy life in the USA but no Canadian in their right mind would bring or want to raise kids there because of how many school shootings there are… it’s just absurd. Hi Tyler ~ As this is a “younger” demographic…I was wondering if you could do a comparison with an older demographic - such as the who go to Florida and Arizona, as well as, a few other places, such as Palm Springs during the colder months. If they happen to be there for Christmas ~ CANUCKS (what Canadians refer to another Canadian) usually gather, close a few blocks of the neighbourhood and have Christmas dinner, then there’s Bonfire Night with fireworks in November (for the NEWFOUNDLANDERS that go to Florida), New Years celebrations is another. I could go on, as I have family that live 3/4 of the year in Canada and go to their southern homes for 3-4 max months of the winter. It would definitely be interesting on their perspective, as they can travel and interact with all demographics of society…including the police…as well as, their experiences with ** in the USA!\n\nCheers??☺??

You can buy good healthcare in America. You go on a waiting list in Canada, and good luck finding a family doctor. Although, wait lists are prioritized by urgency, not first come first serve. ie. Triage first for all medical needs.
