The problem is there is a lack of housing. Even in my city apts. Were easy to find and affordable. Not any more. And the greed of some landlords. If you don't speak English or have skills I don't know what to say. My heart goes out for the homeless.

I am from the carribean living in canada since I was 20 now 50 still living in canada just doing the job I love babysitting even if I have a medical deplome in health care and able to work with the Government. You cam make it if you're money smart but the best thing to do first is to invest in your own country first because the trap is if you invest in the country you move to you will be working and paying bills for ever. The skill and luck is what makes it like me. Plus stay as long with roommates until you save enough money to invest in your country.

I just think there is alot of problems where kenyans are concerned\n\n1. Rely on fake agents and their short cuts. There are accredited agents from developed countries who source in africa and asia but not the other way round. These are sometimes listed on official government websites. \n\n2. Don't fully undertand skills. They think acdemic papers and some random corporate jobs equals skills. Lets call skills, trades and ICT expertise; carpenters, plumbers, nurses, teachers have a better chance than some bank manager in Kenya. \n\n3. Rely too much on youtubers with random clips on things they need to train in like nursings and such over a short period then land in Canada and get a job. It doesn't work like that. First of all, has canada said they need Kenyan nurses? Immigration in developed countries is based on policy. So even when they give visas, they know what they are doing and who they are letting in and for what jobs. \n\n4. Do not go to official government websites to confirm random research and advice\n\n5. Are still dishonest and think it's about trickery and knowing people. Well, not always. At least be able ans willing to yo flip burgers and clean toilets if it comes to that!?\n\n6. There is no affordable housing in developed countries. They too are struggling on that front.\n\n7. Maritimer here: I remember going to a small town in Maine for my cousin's funeral a few years back (half my family is American), and when we were checking-in at the hotel, there was a couple taking their suitcases out of the trunk of their car. The man had a handgun tucked in the back of his pants, and I remember the feeling I got seeing it when he bent over. It was pure Fear. In my mind, this man could kill me or my family in an instance if he wanted to. To me, that was the scariest thought, it felt so wrong that it was normal to carry a weapon. \n\nMind you, we have guns in Canada, they are mainly used for hunting or gun ranges, and you need a licence, which you need to pass a test if you want to go hunting with it. I guess growing up in Canada made me think that guns are dangerous and should be kept away from people... so hearing about the children's safety concerns around guns.. is probably because to us, guns out in the public is inconceivable... even worse around children. \n\nWhen there's a shooting in Canada, it's not a feeling that is reserved for the town or city where it happened. Please don’t mislead people by saying “don’t move here” because of rising rents. Just because NY has even higher rents/COL, does it make it not an attractive city to move to? Rents go up with demand, which means more people want to move to Toronto. Just because your rent went up doesn’t mean it’s a bad city. I live in Regina Saskatchewan. I visited Toronto recently and I have to say I don't like it at all. Even though, I have already saved up enough money while working in Saskatchewan to buy an apartment in Toronto without mortgage, I won't consider moving to Toronto at all. The traffic drive me crazy. There are so many vehicle on Hwy 401 and all other roads even at mid night, going to work will be more or as stressful as your work. I am surprised to find out most of my friend who has better or same qualification as me only get about less than 70% as I get paid. Life quality must be terrible compare live in a more afford city like Regina Saskatchewan.

I can't imagine how a big country as Canada have 1 of highest house rental cost in the world. Canada does not have scarce land like Hong Kong or Singapore, or even Monaco. They can always expand whenever they see fit.

To Everyone bad mouthing Toronto I got a few thoughts to share. First off I’ve lived in Edmonton all my life. But growing up there were two constants in my life almost every summer. 2 places where I could get away have fun not come back for weeks or even months on end. One of them was Toronto . That trend has continued into my 40s.\nSecond I don’t consider Edmonton home. I consider Toronto and my other favourite place my homes always have always will.\nThird Toronto like Every other city has bad and great things about it. But the great things far outweigh the bad things. Yes Toronto is big. But it’s also beautiful vibrant majestic lovely a sight to behold once you visited it long enough. You got the blue jays you got the cn tower you got a lot of stuff no other city has. Toronto is my dream city. It’s where dreams can actually turn into big dreams That result in major success. Ford taking away rent control in 2019 to encourage more investors to build more properties killed the lower and working class. Built nothing but condos that mostly investors bought. Now rent is $2,500 for a 1 bedroom. Even with a modest 50k salary you barely getting buy. You need to make 100k in Toronto just to live a basic life. In Canada, more than half of people's income goes to rent or mortgage. This country has been bought and sold to the real estate. This is what happens when everyone treats real estate as an investment instead of a basic necessity. But enjoy your sky high property values. A house costs 1 million dollars now. I suggest viewers take a look at StatsCan’s crime severity index which confirms that Ontario is the safest province or territory in Canada (safer than PEI lol). There are also scores for cities and Toronto is safer than almost every other Canadian city, safer than even Ottawa or Calgary, twice as safe as Vancouver, nearly three times safer than Winnipeg. If we start comparing to US cities, it would be even more shocking. Suffice to say, Toronto is not only safe, but it’s the safest major city in Canada and one of the safest major cities on earth. \n\nThe homelessness crisis has certainly gotten a lot worse, sadly. As has the cost of living, but you get what you pay for.\n\nHaving travelled to 35 countries (doesn’t mean I’m an expert, but I have some experiences in other places), I respectfully disagree and think Toronto is one of the greatest cities. I grew up in the states but am a dual Canadian citizen. I'd love to move to Canada one day but the cost of living compared to the low wages is a huge turn off. Even though the US has a host of problems, for my field (tech) all its major cities pay far beyond what any major city in Canada would.

Diversity is what has destroyed Toronto, the more diverse it is the more dangerous it gets. I have lived here my entire life and have seen the change for the worse, it has especially nosedived since the Trudeau era starting in 2015. But new mayor Chow will make it even worse in a very short amount of time.
