To me, it looks like Vice is really trying to pull the emotional card to get people to sympathize with this man because he really is in a rough situation. But, he is in a situation of his own making. It sounds like he had not done any prior research about Canada before deciding to claim refugess status. Yes, Trudeau was not giving the full truth when he made those public announcements to the media. Yes, people (educated or not) can be swayed by words of leaders they respect. But, to think you can just enter another country and claim refugee status without understanding what that actually entails is very naive. Canada has very transparent laws that are easily accessable in a multitude of different languages. The provinces also have legal assistance for those who can not afford lawyers. So, the fact that this man was able to spent $15,000 when he is being portrayed as a low income earner makes me question his income, or if he was even aware that he could apply for legal assistance. And since he has a lawyer who has been working his case, I would like to assume that the lawyer would have said something about assistance.\n\nI really want to be sympathetic for this man and his family, because security uncertainty makes life extra hard. But, as I have had to live in more than one country due to the Canadian immigration system refusing my husband due to a very old DUI (which has set our life on a completely different plan than anticipated), I have a very hard time being sympathetic when I feel as though they did not reach out to educated themselves on the laws of another country. I am a Canadian who currently can't live in Canada with my husband of 3 years and I still don't hate my country. I respect the hell out of it (this is not to get into our historic treatment of BIPOC, which deserves it's own seperate time and is a bloody stain on our land's history.)

I have heard n-words towards black people with the hard r, racism towards me, east asians, etc. High school was hell for me and the blatant racism continues with various friends and family. There is racism, stereotypes and then statistics. Racism is wrong and fueled by hate, no excuse. Stereotypes are the use of statistics on an everyday basis, where people just know the overall and basic results of the study, most times just spread out by word of mouth. Statistics themselves are factual, especially when the number or sample data (or population) is large enough.They all exist, but don't be too quick to judge which ones you see here.\nDo the rental property managers, store clerks etc. act differently because they are fueled by hate (some maybe), or just trying to risk management present and future situations based on statistics/stereotypes? Racism is more in the open now, I am a senior and really do not know what words they use to discriminate these days, however my husband and I were walking in Walmart one day, then in between the aisles a disabled youth was walking with his mother and was coming towards us, then he said look, look a cockroach and pointed at us. My husband looked at me and I looked at him, no one else around,we realized he was calling us cockroach, needless to say, we thought hmmm, that person could hardly walk and he is calling us cockroach. We walked out of the store totally shocked. I was later told young people are getting their info from the dark web. We called it ignorance and left it that.

I went into a convenience store and the owners (Chinese) followed me around the store as I look for snacks and went to the back for drinks.. I was been shadowed! I told them that why she- because one followed me- was shadowing me? She gave me a smile.. sometimes I feel they pretend that dont understand a word of English, but actions speak louder than words. It was obvious, they thought i was gonna steal something... Now, tell me.. Does that make them racists too? I think so! I didnt buy anything.. but I gave them an earful for that. I have seen how they also keep an eye on Black people. Later, these same people say that THEY are the ones facing racism.

In Canada there will be low key racism and I have been called the world n- word many times in Toronto but only by Latino Americans, twice by a Mexican in my school, once by Peru guy then by a russian and a vietnamese. But never by a Canadian. In Toronto you will likely face more racism because it's multi cultural than any other city. But you will face racism by people who are non Canadian but more from other countries that have not accepted different races.

Our healthcare is not free in the true sense of the word.....the taxes collected from our income......income tax percentages vary by low, mid, and high incomes which covers many things including most basic healthcare costs.\nThings like doctors visits, most non-consmetic surgeries, most diagnostics, lab tests, birth, etc.\nPsychologists, dentists, physical therapists and others are not covered.\nPrescriptions are not covered and is dependent on the various benefits covered by employers.\nOur income tax, sales tax, property tax covers a multitude of things, such as infrastructure, basic schooling and government services.

Canadians need to pronounce words like: leg, roof, creek, etc correctly, and call their grandmother a proper designation, rather than 'meemaw'. ???

Canada? We speak like Americans but look, we say ''EH'' at the end of our phrases. That makes us sound Canadian. I find it to be swept under the carpet as far as racism is concerned, they smile in front of you but behind you they Stab you in the back .well the Americans is right up front I can work with you but I won’t socialize with you, at least you’re truthful.\n\n I find Canadians to be very two face , Hidden they true feeling and pretend a lot . I have experienced the first time in my life racism was within Canada and it brought me to tears. Glad to see organizations like the black fathers and many that were not part of this documentary. I also want more ppl to think about families who have fathers that are emotionally unavailable/ are workaholics or are just puppet dads. This is often overlooked. There are females who stay with deadbeat males out of fear of societal shaming/ fear of being along and decide to stay even though the guy doesn't provide any support...
