A lot of it would have been true in the 70s and 80s but these are Canadian stereotypes that people are desperately holding onto. More and more things are being delisted from our healthcare coverage, meaning that I often hear of people getting charged out of pocket. I was surprised 3 years ago when my doctor ordered a cancer screening after I was suffering a digestive issue. I was not prepared to pay out of pocket for something as essential as cancer screenings. This sort of thing always used to be covered. It was always covered by our much higher cost of living and our higher taxes. If my taxes keep going up, I expect services to get better, not to decline like they have been. Our seniors are afraid to go to the doctor these days. Suicide is being offered to them instead of proper care and treatment. After they had spent decades working and paying into the system they are being shut out.

the real answer is - lack of big canadian companies, real-estate dependent economy and the need to continously keep pumping money in the universal healthcare. As older population in canada retire, they need young people to keep paying taxes to keep things running and thats why canada keeps bringing in a huge number of immigrants.

They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. To put it simply/ all levels of government are responsible for what is happening today. Provincial and federal governments refusing for decades to support Canadian industries or Canadians. During the 1960's 70's and 80's there was a massive exodus of companies or take overs by foreign entities as a direct result of government refusal to help Canadian businesses. Today they sellout Canada's natural resources loosing valuable tax dollars in the process, leaving taxpayers to foot the bill for taxes, subsidies and grants.

I was born in NYC but moved to Canada over 20 years ago, I now have dual citizenship. In the space of 1 year my retired father had a major stroke and my wife, pregnant with our first child had a full hemorrhage, was rushed to the hospital and gave birth to our premature son who required open heart surgery at 3 months of age. The quality of the health care was top notch, it didn't matter who I was or what I earned, we promptly received the best health care I can imagine. I was maxed out emotionally; I can't imagine worrying if I could afford the monies involved, was it covered under my current health care plan everything was 'just there'. There was no waiting for our legitimate emergencies. I don't know what the math would be on costs but I'm guessing I'd be broke for the rest of my life if this occurred in the States. \nOf course, what countries could afford universal health care except, maybe: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, United Kingdom, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland. Italy, Israel, Greece and 22 other countries. Why is almost every other country paying less for drugs developed by American companies?\nYou pay slightly lower taxes... but what would your income look like if your employer paid you what they are paying for your insurance premiums?\nI'd say the richest country on earth has a little catching up to do...

I think most of the people who have this opinion are unfortunately not in a position where they understand how to track their finances or want a highly luxurious lifestyle. If you have a roommate, can you make $60,000 before tax you can still spend $2800 a month all in and save around ~1k per month (~30%), this is assuming you don’t need a vehicle for work i.e. you work in the city

I was on a H1b visa from 2007 to 2013 (six year term, didn't apply for Green card, had to leave), came back on a L1A visa in 2017which ties you to a specific employer without any option of quitting, applied for Green card (L1A has a fast lane for gc) but before my priority date came my visa extension was denied and I was forced to leave.. I moved to Canada in 2020, event with Covid delays got my PR in 2022, bought a house in Toronto in 2022. Though I am making bit less than what I could have if in USA I am happy to pay my taxes to Canada.

Our Health Care system is broken. We have very bad doctors and insane wait times. Our Health Care is tax funded and it's impossible to sue the hospital if they misdiagnose or mistreat an illness. When you pay for your doctor you will get the best care. Not up here though. One thing per visit and you must see a medical clinic first, if you can get an appointment. My last 2 visits were 14h wait times, and that's at the biggest hospital in BC. \n\nWe don't have free speech. We heavily tax our poorest people. Our gas is over $2 a liter. Food is very expensive especially at fast food places and restaurants. \n\nOur internet is third world at best but with some of the highest data costs in the world. \n\nWe have a run on our borders and our infrastructure is bursting at the seams. We put the needs of other countries before our own. Could be a good thing but not when helping the world is making it harder and harder for those born here to actually live and thrive here.

We've been in Canada for 6 years, and he doesn't ever want to go back.\nI feel for the new mothers, who only get 6 weeks maternity leave (8 weeks for C-Section).\nCanadian Mums get a full year. Nurturing your new baby is necessary for a well-balanced child. You can't bond in 6 weeks. \nYour health insurance is nuts. We paid $1500/mo. just for our family. Then you have a $5k deductible first! Just walking into the ER is $500 and THEN add on labs, x-rays, meds, etc. My son was in mental health treatment and our insurance capped mental health at $25k for life. \nThe biggest slap up my head, was when I found out I CAN'T collect my SSI. I paid a lot of taxes, since we made 6 figures/year. So, now I'm screwed, since they won't pay a former Permanent Resident. Had I been a citizen, I could get it. My husband is a PR in Canada, waiting to take his citizenship test. If he applies for SSI, he needs to go down to the States for 30 days and nights, annually. \nI'm from Toronto, born and raised and I am so happy to have my feet back in my own country. My boys are still there, as well as my grandchildren. Thankfully, they fly up twice a year. You couldn't pay me to move back.

If healthcare was better I’d live in the USA. Taxes are cheaper way more history there bigger cities warmer climates but I’m not paying hundreds to thousands just to get some medical attention where in Canada it’s free.

Canadians forget they pay $15,000/yr on average in taxes for healthcare

Candian here just had a baby 2 years ago. Our out of pocket costs were about $30 for parking and we paid a $200 fee to upgrade to a private room for recovery. Of course its not free as my wife and I pay a significant portion of our income in taxes but I don't mind pitching in for the good of everybody.

Education: The US primary and secondary school education system is based on municpal taxes. In Canada, it doesn't matter where you live: The schools get the same funding. This is a big deal.

Canada is not perfect by any means. Lots of room to improve things, and I absolutely love and appreciate Americans. Great folks. But, the fact that any person, rich or poor, no matter who it is, can go to the doctor as many times as they need to without getting a big bill. We do pay for little things. Like... sometimes you pay for crutches or special devices, but for the most part, you don't. It comes out of our taxes.\n\nPlus, couples get a year of maternity leave here. It can be split any way the couple likes. LIke... the mom or dad can have the whole year or they can split it up between them, part mom and part dad gets it. We have unemployment insurance we pay from our taxes, so if you get suddenly laid of from work, ,you get some money coming in for a while to tide you over until you find a new job. And the disabled can get disability coverage too.\n\nOf course, we do pay higher taxes for these things, but... I kinda like that everybody gets healthcare. NO, I'm not into Communism, but having social programs is great. And... um... we do have more education in Canada, and more avenues to get help with tuition.

Hey there, you fine American... Just to let you understand, our system is FAR from perfect, but it's still easy access and quick service IF you don't need a rare specialist or a not so rare one). The thing is, it's ALL priority based, so if you wait, it's because someone needs your resources even MORE than you do. Sometimes, it ends up in a tragedy, but MOST times, it allows for the neediest to get it first. \nAs far as having children here, we have a NEGATIVE birthrate, so our government PAYS us to have children. My son grew up in Quebec, and they have a double everything. Double taxes (not that bad after the tax deductions and credits), but they also Double the safety net and services, compared to the rest of Canada. Not only was childbirth free, so were the pre-natal courses and everything else, AND we got around 1000$/mo in childcare benefits, until he turned 18, with full of tax credits per kid. Plus, daycare was 5$/day back then, it's 7$/day almost 20 years later.. Pretty citizen friendly. \nThings MIGHT be changing though. Our conservatives are taking their talking points from the US GOP since COVID, and they are all-in to please their Oil lobby overlords and donators out in our prairies region. He was in pain and the nurses would not give him any pain medication in the emergency waiting area, wait for the doctor. He called me at work and I took pain killers to him in the emergency room. He was in the emergency room for 14 hours before he saw a doctor, had to sleep upright overnight.\nIf any American favor's our universal medical system as it is so called free (comes from taxes we pay) come try it and see if you like it. I take my pet to the vet in the US because the price in Canada is insane. Pets are not covered for health care and they really ding you for something as simple as dental work on a dog. It was going to cost us $1500 to have my pet’s teeth PULLED in Canada and it was only $500 in the US. A significant difference! So that is one positive thing about the US that is better than Canada. Also US turkeys are cheaper and juicier than in Canada. It has always been a tradition to get turkeys, cheese, milk, shoes, different flavoured chips, and gas when we cross over. Lol! After visiting the US regularly and vacationing, I do love Canada better because of Health Care. It is a big deal. You folks in the US should be fighting harder for it since it is the norm in Canada and the UK. Yes, we really pay for it in our taxes, but you don’t feel it as much if something bad happens.

We pay for health care via 'Luxury Taxes'. If you don't need it, that's a luxury so it will be taxed high......like BOOZE and cigarettes. Doctors often send people for lab work, X-rays, or other tests. Patients would pay BIG for those services. I hear Canadians complain about waiting. They sound like Americans cursing cause they have to wait 5 minutes for a Big Mac. I got seen in 30 minutes. I got direct service from a SPECIALIST the day after. Surgery days later. ALL in a week! Where was my wait? When I was younger I lived in Fort Lauderdale, then 25 yrs ago I lived in north-west Dallas..... both times I moved back to Canada in less than 6 months.
