Are mexicans going to finally admit their country is failing? Look at this. Pitiful, we can’t even feed our own people AND there is a HUGE crisis with cartels stealing farmland right now! This is outrageous, I’m sorry. We are the most shit on country in the world yet everyone feels they can use us when they realize they’re in the shitter and our country IS a great nation (at least greater then the shit shows they’re trying to flee from). Sorry people are suffering, we are suffering to, find a way to come here by a means that is legal and we will welcome you with open arms

As a Canadian born with immigrant parents, nearly everytime I ask one of my international student friends why they came to Canada instead of the USA, they tell me it's because its way easier to get into Canada ?

All you have to do is join the army (almost any job not just combat ones) for a 2 year contract and you get citizenship and they can give you help financially for your family back home and you can help your family naturalise quicker too. Plenty of correct legal ways to do it if you really want to

We have guns here in Canada ,ownership is more limited in certain circumstances, and ownership is more concentrated\n\nPer capita we have about the same amount of guns (Canada also has its own military industrial complex that sell weapons overseas)\n\nWe don't have the same levels of social ills in Canada and way less people ,so mass shootings are extremely rare in Canada ?

I visited Florida a few months ago with my friends for vacation. I could not relax fully the entire time there. You always feel on edge because you don't know who is carrying a weapon or in such a hostile political climate who would unalive you for disagreeing with them. It felt like a different planet in some ways and that I definitely didn't belong.\n\nAlso with my chronic health condition and more you could not pay me to live in most parts of the US

People deserve to have another chance, it doesn't matter where you are from. This is sad that people have to run to find peace and home where others don't want them to be. They are people just like us trying to find a better living and a new life. My God make a will and a way for them PLEASE !!!????????

As a Canadian who lived and worked in the US for 10 years, I can honestly say the US is BETTER in almost every way! I am a nurse who lived and worked in both countries, band I feel most Canadians are just ignorant to the truth that Canada costs more to live in with a much lower standard of living. We are taxed to death, get substandard healthcare while being fed propaganda that we have it so “good” here. Also as a whole, Canadians are lazier than Americans, and have a sense of superiority that really isn’t warranted. And btw, don’t get sick in Canada if you are not rich also…plus you will get assisted suicide pushed on you.

Immigration to Canada is not a fundamental human right. Canada has every right to identify fraudulent immigration and deport you. Protesting against a foreign government and proving to be a headache while on a student visa will hurt your chances of future immigration benefits. Try this in the USA and you ll get a lifetime ban during visa stamping. Canada is way too forgiving.

NO WAY!! I send my kids to school and don’t worry about them getting shot. My teenage daughter gets pregnant and I wouldn’t be bankrupt. \nIn Canada, there was a time when the federal government’s official opposition party had, as its platform the separation of one of our provinces out of the Canadian nation. That’s freedom of speech! That would never be tolerated in the USA.

Papa ki parri, see the way she is screaming. Her parent’s faces show that it mustn’t have been a great deal of shit. western and eastern canada need to break apart and go their seperate ways, this country is so artificial it blows my mind how anyone can support this heaping dungpile of a country that will have your kids homeless before it stops importing hordes of immigrants. the government wants it citizens homeless and the newcomers homed, dont you get it yet canadians, are you all too far gone mentally to understand whats happening before your eyes? this country makes me want to puke. treason at every turn

Nobody knows the back story so it could go two ways\nEither the man who was in front said really inappropriate things or said to much for the petty issue for the kid and father to react that way cause nobody would scream 3000 feet up in the air if it's unnecessary \n\nOr \n\nThe girl was probably singing something that was too loud or kicking the seat and was told to not do it but unconsciously did it again and again and it all added up on the person in front and her parents probably didn't notice before and the guy probably screamed at the kid and than the parents who love their child took a step \n\nNobodies falt in both situations ??

Former US citizen here, now EU citizen - no way in heck would I ever wish to live in the US again. The education, healthcare and overall quality of life is so much better. Cost for 1 year for full medical (hospital, gp, prescriptions & dental) less than a thousand for a family of 5, I pick my doctors, specialist and hospitals. My current prescriptions cost less than 200 a year, pricing what it would be in the states it would be more around 1000 a month.\nFor any US citizen considering moving please be prepared to file & pay taxes to the US, FEIE doesn't cover everything. Good luck getting a bank account FATCA. There are a lot of things to consider and prepare for before moving.

The trade-off of salary vs cost of living isn't as bad as he makes it seem when you live in Canada vs the U.S. To get those 300k a year jobs, your paying 4-5-6k of rent a month. You can have a similar apartment in Montreal for 1/4 of the price. maybe even less. It's still a slightly a loss compared to the states, but nowhere near as big as he makes it seem. Also, salaries don't drop off as much as in the states when you leave big city centers, meaning if you live in a medium sized town, you're making almost as much as if you worked in a big city but cost of living is way, way down.

H1B is modern human trafficking. H1B holders are constantly abused and threaten to be kicked out of the country if they're not comply. Companies know this and use this as a way to exploit immigrant workers. Most of tech companies in the US are comprised of H1B workers and offshore sweatshops that pay pennies to the locals.

I'm willing to believe that Canada does genuinely need these high levels of immigration, but if that is the case then the government had better figure out a way to increase the housing supply or else none of them are going to have a place to live.

Any trip outside the United States will tell you about how few people would want to move to the US if they could live in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, or Europe instead. Probably a whole lot of other places, too. The United States has too many of its citizens living in fear. That’s a culture whose very admirable democratic and social goals are subverted by worshipping aggression and religious extremism, the very things they say they were fighting against in the Middle East and Afghanistan. I know that many Americans feel that way about their country and their fellow citizens but feel powerless to change it and that the plutocracy (which is largely in day-to-day control) seems to block any progress towards a better way of living.

Canadian here with many friends in the US. Daughter married an American and he immigrated to Canada last year after he finished his military service. The original plan was that she would join him in the States for a few years before he got out. Once Trump was elected and the USA went bat-crap crazy with the war on women's rights, the lgbtq+ community and truth and justice for all (not just those with money or power) she told her husband she'd wait for him up here. It's a big fat no thank you. Y'all have lost your way; broke your moral compass and feel that it's okay to trample on the rights of others.

Most Canadians would move to USA....for a few months to escape the weather(if they could afford it), but 'for good' - no way. Truly no benefits for a Canadian to do so.
|
| 2023-07-29 | 0 |
As an immigrant to the US, you summed up the issue very nicely. Another thing I noticed is that people who cannot get an h1b visa sometimes would go to Canada, get a Canadian passport to secure an insurance, and then come look for a job on TN visa or EB1 visa in the US. As an immigrant who comes to the US on a EB3 visa, I really hope that the US can prioritize employment based visas instead of family based or even illegals immigrants for the future of the country. One thing that makes a lotta EB immigrants scratch our heads is that why would the US government put all their efforts in taking in illegal immigrants and grant them a safe path to citizenship instead of taking care of the ones coming in legally first. Not to say the other group isn’t important, but it’s a weird way to prioritize things.

I happen to be Canadian and have been asked to move to the USA.\nMy answer: no effing way!\nI have no wish to be ruled by religion and church.\nThere can be no doubt, if honesty prevails, that the USA is a church ridden country.\nEverywhere I look, I see religious stupidity galore.\nThe impossibility they believe in, drives me away at the highest possible speed.

Tyler, stop glossing over the U.S.'s horrid gun culture and especially the school and mass shootings.\n\nThe bizarre obsession with guns is the U.S.'s Achilles heel. The gun issue is a totally relevant and significant deterrent to moving to and even just visiting the U.S.\n\nI'm so glad I live in Canada! It's not perfect but it's a strong, beautiful country. The U.S. has a long way to go before it can compete with my home. ?? ❤

Canada's immigrants arrived legally. Without sizeable immigration Canada can't fund it's social healthcare system. Right now the U.S. has no way of knowing how many people simply crossed our very open Southern border.

Broken or picky idk. I like the fact that we try and help our own. America is number 1. These imagrants can go home. Not in a bigot way. But go home. Take your skills and knowledge and make your country better. Why should we eg on the constant brain drain that keeps these countrys lagging behind

One thing I would like to note is that Canada is not welcoming in only highly skilled workers. If you can work at a Tim Horton's you qualify. This has lead to a flood of new workers who HAVE to have a job in order to stay at a time where the existing labour pool is refusing work due to pay lagging far behind inflation for two decades. Those salaries discrepancies you listed are not exclusive to the tech sector, they are economy wide. Often you'll here talk of a labour shortage in Canada, but ask for the number of applicants to jobs and you quickly find out the reason no one accepted is because the full-time job offered requires a part-time job to barely make ends meet. \n\nAnother factor is that housing happens to be the bread and butter of ~40% of our MP's. Hell our Minister of Housing himself owns properties that have appreciated massively due to the lack of supply and high demand. He then goes on national TV and says high immigration will solve the housing crisis despite Canada already having over 4% of our entire labour force already in the construction industries (America is a little over 3%) and the men and women who build our houses being unable to afford the homes they build ($22.07/hr CAD average or ~$16.66 USD. compared to $22.29/hr USD). 14% of our national GDP is housing. 14% of our entire economy is just money changing hands internally with nothing of value made. \n\nThen you have the combo of landlords benefiting from the immigration programs who try and evict the tenants on their properties to replace them with immigrant labour. They then take the cost of rent right out of their salaries. The workers can't quit their jobs because if they don't have a job they are at risk of being deported and also loosing their homes so they end up shacking 8 to an apartment to try and make ends meet. This becomes the standard the rest of the economy has to meet. \n\nIt is a rare sight to see someone who is anti-immigrant in Canada, but the majority of people here understand that immigration is a problem the way it is currently run. You have people who come here hoping for a new life being forced to sleep outside under bridges because while they may have a job they don't have a home and the shelters are already 200% capacity. Tent cities are the norm in any major urban centre now. There are crack dens in Toronto that are the same price as Castles in the UK. And this problem is only going to get worse.

Your stance on school shooting seems flawed to me. Moving to a small town is not a way to provide protection: Uvalde, Sandy Hook, they are not big cities… and the shootings are not always in the same towns, same states, same areas… from the outside, there is no real safe heavens from this craziness

No matter what kind of insurance you have, you still have to deal with a stupid amount of red tape and bureaucracy just to get your care covered, and the drug prices are out of control. and you have no idea when that horrible health issue is going to happen to you. In Canada, I go to the doctor, I give my health card, done deal. The healthcare system in Ontario particularly is under attack and they're trying to privatize hospital care by underfunding everything else. But our premier is also a Conservative Trump Lite wannabe who is buddy buddy with a lot of rich folks. There are absolutely problems here, Canada is dysfunctional in a lot of ways. But I would NEVER move to the states, definitely not as a disabled/chronically ill woman. Hell no. Also--we're not THAT nice, Americans are always surprised at how much Canadians dislike the USA. My brother moved there but he's much more conservative than me (for Canada) and his job doesn't exist here in Canada.

Really no difference between both countries We kill in different ways. America with guns and drugs. Canada with drugs and MAID. For those that don't know the what MAID is. Medical Assist In Dying. Government sponsored. Not too distant future, Canada will overtake the U.S. in yearly non accidental deaths . \n Funny, Canada has been portrayed as a friendly Peace Keeper. Now we will be known as People who die quietly, without a fight. Ten Thousand last year alone. At least we lead the world in something
