I was surprised to find that an American who gave birth in Canada paid $10,000 to have a baby in Canada even though the Father was Canadian! Apparently if she had been Canadian and he was American there would be no charge….go figure!

Living close to the border… we will go down to go shopping or pick up packages. As we approach the US border, I feel an unspoken stress overtake me and when I’m finally back in Canada, there’s a physical/mental relief that is felt. I’ve asked my husband & friends about this and they too feel it.

We have pondered moving to the US but it always scares me thinking of all the service safety nets behind. I don't know how many Americans know this, but basically at birth you are assigned a health card which you keep for the rest of your life. Anytime you go to the doctor they ask for that and it has all your info on it (family doctors, your address, etc) and that's all you do. See the doctor and then leave. Private/work health insurance is more for prescription, dentists,massage, therapy, physio, eye, ambulance rides,etc. \nBut childbirth, ER visits, doctors visits all covered by that card...which is funded by our are taxes. We are taxed to hell and back on the daily but it's just so normal you don't think differently of it. We do have a shortage of Dr's though. An ER wait can be upwards of 2-4 hours and your family doctor can take weeks to get an appointment with so you usually have to go to a hospital or walk in if it's urgent.\nAlso, guns. Guns guns everwhere ? I saw a sign when I was walking into Walmart in Florida saying to not bring guns inside and I just couldn't believe that was a thing that had to be said. In Canada, guns are for hunting and going to the range and that's the only time they're allowed out of their safe. Obviously you have people who have stolen and smuggled guns and that's how you get gun crimes (you need a special card to buy guns and ammo, that you get after passing a gun safety course and *most* gun crimes are not committed by people who hold those cards). I appreciate the fact that you don't have so many restrictions on the types of guns you can get but man, I never felt so rattled just walking around after seeing that sign

Well most of us have been to the US or go there frequently, as so many of us live near the border, so we really don’t have those pre conceived ideas like people from other countries might have. However as one who moved to the U.S. for a time as I married an American, the things I didn’t like the most was ignorance of other countries, especially Canada, as we are so close, that the U.S. revolves the world around themselves, and has a superiority complex that being American is being better than any other nationality, I could go on….However I liked the friendliness, warmth, energy, so it wasn’t all negative.

Been in Canada for approximately 25 years. I can say that the effect that Canada has on a legal immigrant is neither here nor there. At least wherever I have lived, I can’t tell you how many times I forgot to lock my door with impunity. \n \nThere’s a lot more stressful work here in my opinion, but like you said Lynn, systems work a lot more efficiently and effectively. \n \nThe elephant in the room is the extra hard work that those living abroad must put in to fulfil expectations back home. Also known as black tax, the overwhelming financial dependency of relatives on their diasporan loved ones places undue stress on many here, especially because there are no short cuts to getting money here. \n \nAnyway, Lynn, thanks for such a great topical issue you’ve shared. This is my first video of ur channel I m seeing, I saw title and wished to see this video full, I saw ur whole video, my big brother was in Canada for just a month as his USA visa was expired, so he had to move out from Usa, and he decided to go in Canada, he stayed there in hotel with his wife and daughter, and in a month his most of savings were gone, just to live in Canada, it’s 12 years before thing, then he immediately came to India, and small sister is in USA, she is still there but, USA is somewhat equally same like Canada. Sir, Australian life far better than others developed countries. But Yes, country-side concept is true to help PR in Australia. Bro...their has an invisible policy( any body cannot prove it)which works through immigration policy, treating as country to country...As an Indian I had a good experience in Sydney...We Indian have a good chance to come back in India. Mam you came back and telling about kids safety, now I will tell you that now they r teaching at school now a days what is LGBT and how to recognise about your self, may be you are boy and how to feel if you feel like a girl, and kids are free to feel like that. And also teaching how to use drugs, even they provide kits to use drugs free of cost at school, so if you want that kit so you can have that. Canada is good for only elders , just to earn money and come back to India.

Born and raised in Toronto. Established career. Can afford to live here. Can't afford a house unless because I can't spend over a million. Condo fees are ridiculous. TTC is not safe and condo parking spots cost over $10,000 plus $100 a month maintenance fee. All the things to do in the city are being torn down for unaffordable condos. I can afford to stay here but it is not worth it for what I get. I am looking to transfer my work credentials and move elsewhere. I mean leave Canada. It is not worth it now. Don't forget un-reasonable amounts of taxes as well.

I am a South Sudanese Canadian who pretty much grew up in Kenya before travelling abroad. Life in Canada is not easy.. especially after Trudeau came to power.\nI make pretty good income in IT, but i pay like 30% in taxes...30% of my money is gone. I dont see it. I know others who pay more than me in taxes. The grocery is also high, as are the other bills. Rent is really high. In my city, an average house costs 800k. Even my cousins in the US are shocked at the prices of homes in Canada. My rent is much higher than the mortgages being paid by my cousins in the US. In places like Toronto or Vancouver, it is worse.\n\nI went back to Africa last time and saw so many opportunities, that i made my decision yo transition slowly back home. \n\nThe problem i find with most Africans is thinking of finding jobs in the government or private sector. If you are a Kenyan, or Ethiopian or South Sudanese, etc, think of creating jobs instead.\n\nThe opportunities for entrepreneurship in Africa are endless because alot of the problems in society have not yet been resolved. You dont have to have alot of capital to start farming for example. So many Africans have access to free ancestral lands that they can farm and make money from. But many want to spend time in the cities instead. A change of mindset is needed.

Hello Mam, sorry I didn't get your name. I went there in 1986 and was there for 25 years. It all depends on your circumstances and background. If you are professionals and earning well there is no need to go to Canada. The first generation has to start from zero. It is a lot of struggle, but the future generations will enjoy the fruit of your hard labor. There are positives and negatives for both countries. Atleast there is no corruption there, whereas there is corruption almost everywhere. Justice system is so slow that if you file case it may not get results in your lifetime. \nAll in all it is all upto the individual person and his or her personal circumstances.

My sister grew up in Toronto with her Mom while I was with our dad about an hour outside of the GTA. Even back in 2003 when I would come to visit my sister, or just go on class trips you could smell the city before you ever saw it... Torontonians had a bad reputation of thinking they were in the center of the universe, and it always just put me off of the city. It's not that I would ever want someone to not come to Canada... but there are just so many better places to live in Ontario, let alone the rest of the country... that why would you ever want to subject yourself to what T.O. has become?

What were his goals before moving to Canada ?\n\nPeople need to realize a country like Canada will not give you wealth but will provide you a space for growth. You will struggle If you don’t have the following \n1. Employable skills \n2. Personal integrity \n3. Ability to build a healthy social network \n4. Patience. It will take about 5yrs to adjust to the Canadian culture \n\nTo emphasize again, if your primary main goal is to create wealth quickly then forget Canada. Pricing is not a Canadian specific problem. Look at anywhere people actually want to live in the US, it's essentially the same. LA and NY are just as expensive as Toronto. Only difference is there's less people in Canada that live in rural states like Iowa where everything is cheap because there isn't major city for hundreds of thousands of miles. This is all part of late stage capitalism and our inability to see past the short term. Corporations eventually take over if we don't do anything about it and everything becomes too expensive. People stop having kids so the government needs to increase immigration to support what few social systems we have left. I stay in a Kenyan America who works in Canada,all that is bullshit.They come here it's all roast on visitors visas,if you have papers it's extra fine but if you don't be ready to see Rutos face here.Those who are struggling here didn't come the right way.Those with brains can take household jobs that pay extra well,that's after acquiring the right documents, household jobs pat's extra well here.
