Thank you for summarizing these key changes! Many problems are actually the Canadian immigration system not learning from the mistakes of the US system and now it’s suffering the same consequences. If Canada cuts down on those selected immigrations but still takes in refugees, it’s only going to make anti-immigrant sentiment worse. Selected immigrants are allowed into Canada to help alleviate Canadian issues…or at least people who come through Express Entry are less likely to become a burden. On the other hand, refugees, given their unfortunate circumstances, really need to rely on a lot of social services and resources to help them resettle. The US has eliminated pretty much all non-humanitarian immigration that’s why immigrants are so demonized there. Americans only feel the drags of refugees and asylum seekers (even though ethically we need to protect them) and there is no selected immigration to balance that out. Yet this round of Canadian policy change is heading exactly that direction.\n\nIt used to be international students in Canada are not paying a lot more tuition than Canadian students. But Canadian universities saw how much money universities in the US are making so they asked the federal government to change the policy to enable them to charge international students several times the regular tuition (whereas in countries like France, international students actually pay less than citizens). So now Canadian universities rely too much on international students to operate and it becomes an exploitative relationship even before students step foot on the campus. The new PGWP eligibility is awful because students can make contributions in every field. It might (and that's a big if) address the pressing problems, but it won't help Canada grow.\n\nI thought the new language requirement was interesting. Some Canadians who immigrated decades ago when the bar was really low still speak English poorly and now they are saying people can’t come to Canada because their language skills are not sufficient. Another point about language is if you apply through Express Entry now, even if you scored the highest language score, given how competitive the pool is, you still won’t get selected. So it’s a given that you need to be fluent in one of the languages at least to get an invitation. Express Entry also selects only the top people, I saw the head of The Institute for Canadian Citizenship in interviews talking about those top-tier people only expect the best treatment/lifestyle when they come to Canada. That's why many of them leave after seeing these Canadian problems play out. But I believe a good Canadian life is not about living in a high rise in Vancouver and Toronto, driving an expensive car, or buying luxury items...it's about the communities, nature and middle-class comfort. So the system is giving PRs to the wrong kind of people (just like mismatched people when hiring that don't align with company values).\n\nThis brings me to the last frustrating issue. There were so many people who attended “fake” universities and bought “fake” jobs to earn points to get an Express Entry invitation. And it's clear that the government wasn't proactively catching these abuses. They are taking up spots from those who try to earn the points fair and square. If I understand correctly, Canada doesn’t send these people away if they are found out (since some of them were scammed). So they still take up immigration quotas.\n\nI have wanted to move to Canada for a long time. I have visited Canada many times, hiking trails through the coastline and fjords, climbing mountains and glaciers. I lived in Montreal for two months to improve my French and I was told by my homestay family that I was the first student they had who didn’t complain about the cold (I wish the winter never ends so I can skate or xc ski in the parks year-round). I have probably seen more Canada than many Canadians and I love every bit of it. But the opportunity for me to even get a shot to move there is pretty much nonexistent now. Doing the opposite causes friction and even arguments where customers explicitly say: “Please don’t talk over me, listen to me first.”\nPutting myself in the shoes of a hiring manager who is culturally Canadian, knowing that Canadians are very risk averse and kept to themselves: Why would I stir the pot in the workplace by bringing in a foreign worker who may have internalized habits that are seen as rude and abrupt?\nIt’s not only about English skills, degrees, who does things faster, etc., but cultural awareness. If you don’t take the time to learn about the culture of the place you are migrating to and/or expect that locals welcome habits that could be perceived as rude and shocking to most Canadians, you are going to limit your network to only people in your cultural group - which will definitely hinder opportunities for growth. Don’t make the mistake of assuming that everybody thinks and acts the same as you do.

Trudeau brought the international students for money! Each international student had to bring CAD 10,000 and from 2024 it's CAD 20,000 which gets deposited in a Canadian bank. From the stats, in 2022, international students have contributed $30 billion to Canada's economy. If ONE PERSON is to be blamed here, it's Justin Trudeau. Why bring all these people in such a short period of time? This is what happens when an entitled drama teacher becomes the Prime Minister of one of the most prosperous countries in the world.

As FRENCH, I think it is more an issue with policies set by both governments!!! You know you bring students IN and why don’t you build houses and encourage construction???? In France, many students (mainly Africa, and French departments like Guadeloupe, Tahiti or Martinique) come to study there (for free and we are proud of it!!!) BUT - unlike Canada - we do NOT have the same issues as Canada (our healthcare is NOT under pressure and our housing prices haven’t really increased that much as compared to Canada for example!!!) to me, the students are NOT to blame!!! It is the fault of the deciders (at different level) who have FAILED to set the right policies!!!! The schools are also to blame as some (not all) are so obsessed with making profits out of the higher international fees, which by way, subsidize Canadian students!!! So in Canada (not in France or Germany), the money that allows schools to function come from international students who BRING LOTS OF MONEY for the Canadian economy!!!! in France, it is different as the universities are FREE and are fully subsidized by the French government… but yes;) you have to speak French fluently to attend them!!! \nSo dear Canadians, do not blame foreign students thanks to whom your universities thrive and remain existant!!! They are skilled migrants. Why do Canada take them in? Because they lack skilled white people to do their jobs. Also lack of population. When I first visited Amsterdam and walked around my hotel looking for a coffee in 2016, 15 min later, I came back to my hotel giving coffee to my wife and told, watch something bad is going to happen here soon, extremists are trying recruit people of color. Since I was new to the place, I came across 3 people asking me if I am a muslim. I politely said no. This incident was good enough for me to guess, but I did not tell anyone except my wife because no one will believe me including my wife. Two years later, Amsterdam terrorists attack happened. Many of my observations in several other places/countries came true. It looked like, Einstein once said, I do not know what weapons we use in the third world war, But I can guess certainly for the 4th, Sticks and Stones. \n\nNo country should harbor extremists a safe haven, esply. on religious grounds. In Canada, there is not enough housing and jobs are scarce, especially for anyone at the entry level or basic wage. We've been absolutely swamped. This is not the fault of the immigrants or the students, it's the fault of our extremely stupid and short sighted government. Most of those immigrants I encounter are good people, polite and considerate. But some, well I understand where the complaints about rude and inconsiderate behaviour come from, because it only takes a few bad experiences to get people angry. I've experienced it myself, but most of it (from my experience) seems to be from students who are very loud and impolite on public transit. The housing situation here is INSANE, prices are sky high and very little to choose from. A lot of seniors now can only afford to rent a room (after having worked all their lives and very little to show for it), and prices are up about 50% from only 5 years ago. The government says inflation is a fraction of what it is in real life, and living expenses have exploded. As I understand it, some people made a lot of money offering services to bring students and low wage workers in, with no consideration to the damage they were doing to all of us who were born and raised here - they wanted to make their million dollars. Another problem is that once someone arrives here, what they find is NOT what they were led to believe. What students and immigrants are told they need to live here is an absolute lie, living here in Canada has become very expensive. Many workers are severely under paid, and never even see the legal minimum wage, and the problem with that is, almost no Canadian will be hired on to those jobs - the reasons are that imported foreign workers will work below minimum wage because they are trapped here, and the Canadians already know that they will only struggle if they take jobs that pay so poorly. So yes, a lot of Canadians are VERY angry, and you really can't blame them. Once again, the Canadian government is responsible for much of this, and crooked employers who are willing to take advantage of low wage labour. It's an absolute mess.

Ask Canadians what they think of the major impact of immigration to their country. Everyone is pissed off at Tredeau as the rules are way too lax, and we have all these idiots coming in and bringing underskilled members of their family. It's a shit show in Canada these days.

I am so sorry, as a native Canadian, that Indians are feeling attacked. It is difficult, no matter your ethnic background, if you are not Indian to even acknowledge these issues because people are afraid of being labelled as racist so I thank you for bringing this topic up. Please understand this is the result of runaway immigrations with no real screening. The government quadrupled immigration, hundreds of percents increase in students, asylum seekers, and illegal entries, even though there was already a housing crisis, and a completely predictable doctor shortage due to aging out. Covid was just starting to get under control but many still needed treatment and BOOM, the population went from 30 million in 2014 to over 40 million in a decade, most of it in the last 3 years. We native Canadians are scratching our heads, we don't understand what the Liberals are trying to accomplish but to create suspicion and racism between groups of people -- divide and conquer? Maybe...but ultimately it is a complete lack of planning! Still 99 percent of Canadian born do not blame Iindividual ndians for this. I've lived and worked with Indians my entire life of over 60 years. There are now Indian gangs, particularly Punjabi gangs because of lack of oversight, and while they are small they are constantly committing crimes, selling drugs, shooting people all in the last few years. I hear gun shots nightly in my ethnically mixed neighbourhood, and we are all afraid to walk at night. Unfortunately the people arrested are mostly from continental India. Some have a political agenda that has to do more with India than Canada, so they recruit young Indo-Canadian children from good families and tell them they are being oppressed, and next thing these kids are acting as drug mules and enforcers, being told that they are fighting systemic racism. As for dancing and music, I love the cultural events, we are happy to see and even take part in Indian cultural events. IWhen I do hear people blaming India and Indians it breaks my heart too! Hopefully together we can fix this. Our governments are at odds, and I hate this -- they need to respectfully talk and work this out. You are good neighbours, good people, you are welcome here and have helped build Canada in so many positive ways. ?

I hope and wish these people will be sent back as they have absolutely no rights in our country, like rightfully canadian citizens. \nThey abuse the system and we should not be even listening to their demands. I served in our military and defended the right and freedom of our country for 34 years and I feel it's all going to waste the way our government is handling it. I keep hoping we can be proud again for CANADIANS that truly love this country and bring valuable contributions to all canadians regardless of their ethnicity, color, religion or beliefs. \nKeep dreaming peace to all

Pretty sure that all of these 13k students are people from a particular country, I really hope (wish) Canada government will ignore them and focus on working on the system again. If they decide to change things to bring benefits to these students, 38 million Canadians will suffer!

YES, YES, YES.... We do want them all out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's an INVASION and it needs to stop. We MUST deport a couple million to try and get the country back to peace and order. \nOne Tim Horton's worker becomes the anchor to bring in parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, the kid down the street, ALL OF THEM invade Canada and contribute nothing. They ruin housing, clog up public services, poop on our beaches, and never even try to fit into Canadian traditions.

Enough is enough, shut the doors.\nThese students seeking asylum us a scam. Screening is nonexistent at the moment. We're overwhelmed with refugees, asylum seekers and the that want in. In the meantime canadians have been ignored and problems we currently face with only grow exponentially. Time is now to take action if we're going to able to salvage what's left of our country. Realistically we can't take in everyone so let's make the ones we do allow in bring skills that will help us.

These people BRING SHAME TO Canada. God forbid the USA decide to build a wall north of the border or impose visa restrictions on Canadians because of these trash.

Get them out. Every one of them. Get Canadians working again and don't bring any more in until there are enough jobs and housing. SEND THEM BACK TO FIX THEIR OWN COUNTRIES! SEND THE MUSLIMS BACK, THEY DO NOT FIT IN AND DO NOT INTEGRATE. NOTHING BUT TROUBLE!
