I think all this shows is that Canada relies too heavily on the USA. A new economic bloc needs to be formed.

Trump has far better position. Not because US bigger economically. But because he claims his actions are to protect US citizens from drug deaths. While Canada fight for what? To not secure its own border??

I am a citizen of both Canada and the EU. I hope Canada will soon consider strengthening its economic relationships with the EU, especially as the southern neighbour becomes increasingly aggressive and unpredictable.

No that isn't why Trump has moved on tariffs. He has imperialist ambitions. He wishes to use economic power to make Canada part of the USA.

Both Mexico and Canada have fallen into Trumps trap, if you do not see it, let me explain. Trump has been pushing for more manufacturing at home, for more oil drilling and for more rare minerals mining. He can impose those tariffs and either Canada and Mexico agree, or the do exactly what they just did, think they can win a economic war with the United States. See, Trump gets what he wants either way, they don't cooperate, Trump gives huge tax incentives to companies to start producing here in the U.S. which will in turn reduce the price of everything for Americans, see, if you produce it here instead of overseas, Canada or Mexico, we can pish for a huge increase in overall production reducing the costs to consumers, since the products no longer have to be imported. Like i said, sometimes i don't think the left has any brains left.

The housing shortage is a common thread to the economic/ housing crisis! But why aren’t they building rental units??? Simple, would you build a plane if your passengers simply boarded the plane and refused to pay?? if that were to happen the offending passengers would be de-planed and arrested! \nBut when it comes to renters, they can move in, stop paying rent and it can take 6-12 months to legally evict them. As a former contractor I have been witness to landlords offering cash to tenants and squatters to leave their properties which have always been left trashed and badly damaged! The laws that protect these criminals are a joke and predatory tenants know it! I had a client who rented her condo to a lawyer and after a couple months the tenant stopped paying. She filed for a writ of possesion and waited months for the hearing. She brought all the documentation and the tenant showed up claiming they had cancer ( no documentation, letter from doctors Nothing!) The writ of possession was denied for compassionate reasons! The landlord had a mortgage and was paying the condo maintenance fees, the tribunal didn’t care! \nThey set it aside for six months. In the end cash was offered and the tenant left! After the massive clean up and damage was repaired it was put on the market! This is how far left Canada has gone! There’s simply no way forward!

Very true, I have only been here for few years and noticed it. Canada immigrants spin the wheel and big bosses just sit back make rules and live on the commission. They just focus on all these dues from the labor. Ridiculously high taxes, union dues, license fee, etc etc… and only few big businesses (whether bank or telecom) monopolizing whole country’s economic and running the government. Canada like many countries who came out fairly unscathed from COVID are facing the same dilemma, they didn't get the massive economical bounce back and the momentum that went with it like many countries who were devastated by COVID. If you look at the data between Canadian household income compared to the US, excluding the top ten percent since the US has much more income inequality than Canada, you will see that most Canadian are doing much better than their American neighbours. And on top of that, we have safer streets, healthcare, longer lifespan and better public education system. What we are missing is more leadership structuring our economy rather than completely being depended on the free market. They are managing the economy rather than facilitating more growth, none of the Canadian political parties seems to truly be engaged with that. We are not the US, we do not have the population to grow a service economy like they do, which has a compounding effect on their economy. We need a more focused approach to managing our resources, including human resource, which requires some planning on the economic side.

I live in Canada for last 48 years, and it’s a wonderful place, but problems started when liberal government started giving “immigrants” free money, that was burdened on the system.. and Chinese were buying houses in Vancouver and left them empty.. we don’t have corporations, bribery but values of time is very important… yes we do have some problems with economic issues… hopefully will get sorted out when new government will come next year.. not with EVM
