Many years ago (I am 82) my husband was a post doc at Princeton. In case we wanted to stay in the USA a few years we became immigrants. While many people were pleasant and interesting , we hated the general culture there. The racism, medical expenses, the lack of public parks, public transportation , etc. we found very unpleasant. I became pregnant. My doctor who was kindly however had to suddenly flee the state as his wife was having him arrested ! He gave me info about places my child could be born on our trip home if necessary at our last meeting for I decided that my child would definitely be a Canadian! So, we packed up and left the month before my son was born. LOL.My recent ancestors are French Canadian, British, Scot , and I am descended from a Loyalist Niagara area family - but am also descended from every founding ethnic leader in the USA! Even several on the Mayflower! So, most Americans are my cousins! I think they have gone astray!

You might be surprised to realize how shifted left our systems range politically is from the American one. \n\nThis hugely impacts the average normal expectation , what we clutch our pearls at hearing coming out of the mouths of the general public , and our range of what we expect to not hear or see ranted about unless they’re to our view , extremely right leaning politically /social values. \n\nFor us this means that actually genuinely , a lot of America does get experiences by us as bat shit crazy racist homophobic immigrant intolerant culturally and religiously ignorant , and somewhat backwards in larger or smaller amounts ? I know that’s not fun to hear but. Being the most diverse country based so much on immigration means. What is normal and known /familiar and normal so we aren’t ignorant to , is completely different. \n\nFor us we have our pockets usually in more rural less populated areas further away from larger cities where there is more diversity but that’s the same often in many countries that you will find some of the louder racist homophobic intolerant voices typically in places that truly are unfamiliar and ignorant to the experience of growing up with and around much of any diversity of varying kinds. We distinguish nuances of diff cultures and religions more easily and in larger numbers we’re more familiar with diff ways of life , language , food, dress , holidays , values and used to a much less segregated way of existing even when we are differnt from each other as the NORM. My parents were both born in the states and my older brother was born there but they moved up here when he was a baby. So nearly all my extended family lives down there and I’m a duelly. And my experiences discussing things with my cousins or visiting absolutely could be described as culture shock at times. The insane things that came out of my own cousins mouths when they hear our friends or partners of various cultures , our not understanding how big a deal and incredibly insulting apparently it is to have assumed someone American was lgbt lol the list goes on. Like I don’t think our most intolerant Pockets can hold a flame to even ur closet to middle a bit intolerant places and contexts in America. Quite honestly. \n\nI think the absolute undying favourable passionate upholding and support of nationalistic, capitalist, hyper individualistic mentality about society as a whole (from my Canadian born and bred perspective lol) makes the differences even more glaring blaring and hard to swallow for us lol. In the Philippines ( I'm focusing on that country as a born Canadian Filipino ) there was a 40% rise in, not only immigration, but exclusively mostly caucasian immigration to the Philippines. Prices in the Philippines then skyrocketed exponentially. Yet, they ( The Philippines ) NOT ONCE complained....in general, let alone frabricated ussues to complain about like the manner which is demonstrated in all of North America. So, how much worse, how much more problematic, is the basically small percentage of immigration is in Canada?\n\nFurthermore, in the Philippines exclusively, the immigrants there, not care to learn the Filipino language and would rather go poor, than contribute to the labour force of the Philippines. So....HOW MUCH MORE VALID are Canadian problems with immigration?

Rents and forget about buying a house in BC, AB, Quebec, Ontario. High unemployment, Inflation is high and going up more. Our youth are very unhappy and do not see a future for themselves yet have to work very hard and pay unbelievable high taxes. The minimum wages are only 15 bucks an hour which cannot sustain life here in this country. Please stop making false promises to foreigners to come here and be disappointed. This is not a country of milk and honey any longer but poor and enormous homelessness. Hunger, terrible health care, incredible post secondary tuitions and books. Now that president Trump has won the election he is going to place tariffs on Canadian goods and rightfully so. Russia is very interested in the Antarctica and should they or anyone invade Canada we got 3 days of ammunition. The food in AB is very bad for your health. Everything has pesticides, hormones, and by the time fruit and vegies arrive here from the US all the nutrition have gone. A extremely high cancer rate, young and old, diabetes, depression and other mental disorders are rampant. Our children and grandchildren do not have a future so why bother going to school or work. Our kids live on the streets, shelters, camping in the woods and using fentanyl and meth all kinds of dangerous drugs. The cities and small towns are full of used needles, pipes, and more paraphelia just thrown on the trails everywhere. The US will not assist Canada when a possible War 3 will occur, and we the people of Canada and the land are easy prey. If you do not believe me, just come visit RED Deer shelters and walk around on the trails, go to Vancouver but becareful because random assaults are happening every day, people living in tents, using the streets as toilets, drugs galore, even the police is unable to act nor arrest criminal activities caused by desperate people who need to survive. Canada's economy is about to collapse and fall into a recession. We have too many people coming in our country without checking their back ground and many criminals and terrorist groups are entering declaring refugee status whether it is true or not, we do not know. The people of Canada who work and pay highest taxes are used to house these newcomers and education, jobs, food and money. Our government take better care of these illegal people than their own people especially our youth. So please let us not pretend Canada is a land of opportunity and great. We have to vote for the right leader who will have a very difficult time and challenges to overcome if at all possible and make Canada Great Again!

As a Canadian born person, work should be prioritized for Canadians. I am having a difficult time getting entry level jobs because of the competition not only from Canadians, but immigrants, international students and temporary foreign workers.

Canada is building a tonne of housing as is, a bit less than in the past, so yes, issues with the growth of red tape, zoning, development taxes, etc should be addressed, but the problem has mainly been that the population has been growing at an exponential rate, in the past decade. The construction workforce actually doesn't have that many immigrants - around 77% are Canadian born, compared to 73% of the overall workforce, and I suspect the 23% that are immigrants are probably mostly immigrants that have been here a while, with very few temporary workers (which are mostly in retail/commercial services, elder care, and agriculture). That means immigration has been a bigger problem for increasing housing demand, compared to any benefit to increasing the supply through increasing construction workforce, especially when you consider that the size of the construction workforce is proportional to the total population, while the housing demand is more correlated to population growth. \n\nThere is also the differentiation between expanding infrastructure/housing supply, vs improving/maintaining it. It would not be a bad thing if we were able to shift some of the construction workforce towards improving our stormwater infrastructure, fixing roads, and building transit alternatives (improves quality of life), rather than just building more and more new roads and homes just to keep up with population growth (maintains quality of life).

I immigrated to Canada in 1981 because I married a Canadian I should say French Canadian girl and it was just a better place for her to continue on with her background. We relocated to Ottawa which is bilingual and made it very easy for both of us to assimilate together. I moved back to the USA in 2006 to help my sick brother and move back again to Canada in 2016. I came back for many reasons. The political Edge in the united states, the guns out of control, the increased crime rate daily, in just too many people everywhere. Now I was living in the Tampa Bay area and a lot of the people come from out of state and out of country especially in the winter to spend their cold months in the sunshine. Some things I miss in the United States comes usually down to the cost of living. Unless you get sick. And I miss living by the Gulf of Mexico. Except during hurricane season. I prefer living in Canada only because it's a slower easier paced social environment. It has nowhere near the political stress that the United States has where it can almost be violent. Actually, where it has been violent. Revisit January 6th. Out of control guns with hot-headed men mostly can force you out as well and back to Canada. Canada's social structure and environment supersedes the United States tenfold. And of course as we get older, Healthcare is a priority. I'm thankful there's a place like Canada close to where I was born or I can spend the rest of my life enjoying it as opposed to looking over my shoulder constantly. I also find that Canadians have a huge appreciation of warm months. So many people are outside even when they are eating at restaurants. Because of the warmer months are so short, Canadians really take advantage of enjoying it and those months are never taken for granted. Winters in Ontario, like here in Ottawa, can be very cold once January and February come around. But once you make it into the middle of march, you can almost smell spring in the air and somewhere on the way. But there are those dreaded 8 weeks of oh my God ?

I appreciate your take. I believe Canada's key issue is that it is facing a cultural decay, which is not exclusive to Canada. Many countries in the west are challenged by similar things such as aging populations and unaffordability. \n\nIt works in a cycle: governments and corporations take turns screwing over the general population and most people cannot afford anything. Corporation does A then government does B; government does X then corporation does Y. On the surface, government is _trying_ to do a good thing, but it backfires quite often, leaving the average person feeling scorned. \n\nChief among these corrective measures was mass immigration, and because there was already a climate of indignation, the introduction of too-many-immigrants was a huge slap in the face. Instead of making sure Canadians were better taken care of, the government responded to the corporations--not the people. \n\nGDP numbers mean nothing to the average Canadian person if their quality of life is in decline. The only people still in favour of mass immigration are those who do not have to confront it on a day-to-day basis. Even Canadian-born (or even Canadian Citizens of 5+ years) minorities, think the immigration problem is too much.

I'm an immigrant who came here with my family on a sponsorship program in 2008. Never got in trouble, worked two jobs and busted our asses off to get the citizenship in 2014. What has happened to Canada under Trudeau's incompetent government with his mass immigration policies and taking in low-class South Asians who do nothing but scam their way to the top is nothing but a tragedy. As an immigrant myself, I think you should adapt to the place you move to. I dont think Canadian born are annoyed by skin tones or even releigion being different, its the resistance to leave their culture and their intention to live like they are back home that is not seen well.

As a 35 year old Canadian born citizen, at this point I would love to become a legal American citizen in any republican run state. Our economy is destroyed thanks to the Liberals and it will never be the same again regardless of who wins the election in 2025. Local here, born and raised in BC. As much as I love our country and history, I don't see myself being able to live here in the future. Real estate is the driving factor for the economy and with those housing/COL prices going up, I won't even be able to afford a split mortgage even if I had a steady 6 figure job. Case in point, thousands upon thousands of empty condos in greater Vancouver. Which equates to a shortage of housing for people that have lived here and paid taxes their entire life, as a Canadian. Foreign real estate speculation and land purchasing has not only been allowed, AND encouraged, new properties/condos are being marketed in China well before they are IN Vancouver! Now, it's too late to plug the leak. Thus, rampant homelessness. \n\nCompletely irresponsible immigration policy. Nobody in their right mind would deny that a multicultural country like Canada needs immigrants. Especially with the aging population. But as far as accommodating/housing these people, we're not even close to being on target. I support post secondary schools charging more to immigrants and foreign students. My university that I’m currently at charges a $2500 registration fee to international students. I a Canadian born citizen do not pay anything to register. I only pay for my classes. My university is also made up of mostly foreign students by charging foreign students more. It allows Canadians to be charged less so yes, I support schools charging more to foreign students.

One of those accents is clearly Canadian, the other I’m pretty sure isn’t. A man born in a stable is not a horse.

The migrants will find a way into Canada because of the government's weak leadership. I was born and raised in Montréal, Québec, and I am still living there. I work as an employment counselor and many asylum seekers (from Haiti, Guinea, Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria, Morocco, Burkina Faso, Senegal, etc.) come to my office (on average 15 per week). Between July 1, 2023 and June 30, 2024, approximately 300 asylum seekers came to my workplace. An overwhelming majority of them are receiving welfare and living in hotels, at tax payers expense, while homelessness remains an issue in the city. Canadians should be taken care of first!

As a born and raised, WHITE Canadian, I NEVER had an issue with Indian immigrants, of all the immigrants to Canada, they were the most respectful, and the most willing to “assimilate” to our culture. This is my first time watching your content. It saddens me that you've come to feel as you do. I'm 72 YO and had the good fortune to be born among people who had survived a world war. They knew bullshit when they heard it. I served in the Canadian Army 1968-74. Like you, I've been a lot of places, and seen a lot of things. I do casual work at McMaster and interact with a lot of people. It feels like somebody else's country. Everyone seems so ignorant of our history. Worse, my Jewish friends no longer feel safe here. The Canada that I served so proudly as a soldier no longer exists. We could liquidate and leave, but these colours don't run.

Since the Canadian government thinks we Canadians born in Canada are all criminals, without a trial in a court of law to determine this, the Canadian government wants to replace us all with brown immigrants mostly from Iran. I guess the crime rate in Iran must be the lowest in the world. That's why most of the immigrants coming into Canada are Iranian. I am currently unemployed and am always the first to get fired while my brown coworkers from Iran remain employed. I really think it's time for affirmative action for Canadians born in Canada.
