Let's imagine that the tariffs will actually be effective and three thousand companies from all over the world will come back. 3,000 companies will start producing, they need people. If all the companies come back, prices will increase by 30%. And 70 percent of the population will buy 30% more expensively. Inflation will run wild. Poverty will increase. What's the point of this?? We don’t want this tariff war but the tariffs being implemented first by the Trump administration on behalf of US were punitive for violating USMCA and tied directly to the border defects. This was made known in advance and you repeated empty promises. Take your medicine and get well fast. Instead of doing that, you are taking an action that will beget reciprocal tariffs. Implement $30B and Trump will add $30B….add another $125B later and Trump will add another $125B. Heads up….America wants good partners and looks forward to being past this as well. In the meantime, we are prepared to pay more (or live with less) as we get back up on our feet. We have a lot of internal healing and cannot carry any other countries right now.
