Why are we only retaliating only 25%, slap stupid Trump with 50% tariffs as he thinks he has all the power in the world. I hope all the world leaders stick together & shut this idiot down!!!

Everyone thinks that this is Canada standing up, but what this means is that the Canadians with our economy that is 1/10 that of the US will be taxed at 25% on our imports, this is going to hurt canadians way more than the retaliatory terrifs will hurt the americans. This may also lead to an escalated response from the US exacerbating the effect. Trudeau and others can't seem to grasp that there may be a long term strategy from Trump and this is playing into it. \n\nThe truth of all of it is that Trump does not like Justin Trudeau or the Liberal government.

What is wrong with President Trump wanting things to be fair. Canada has charged the US a 25% tariff for years and that's acceptable I think not. They deserve a 25% tariff from America. Why do some Americans think it's acceptable to give America's hardworking tax dollars away to countries who show nothing but disrespect to United States what is wrong with you guys? Trudeau is extremely impressive in government actions and in communicating as simply as possible to the people of USA, to explain what is happening and to implore that they pressurise their rotten Trump government. This is an attack on a very friendly government with 25% tariffs on everything but just 10% on China?? This is an attack to try to destabilise Canada to help in taking the country over. It won't work and everyone will suffer or lose.

The tariffs are a distraction as the multi-billionaires walk off with a four trillion dollar tax cut, subsidies, and protections for their corporations... while the hard working average American is saddled with a 10 to 25% tax increase... thanks, Donald.

Trump is completely unreasonable. There is no sense dealing with him, period. If it is going to be 25% or even 50% with reciprocal tariffs, we simply DO NOT import American goods into Canada (if our retailers don't order them, there is nothing they can do) and if we export, the consumer is paying those tariffs and we continue to manufacture. I honestly think that is the best, maybe the only, solution. If tariffed countries stop buying American goods, maybe Trumputin will reconsider. And if he doesn't, he doesn't. He isn't known for his brain power.

The USMCA trade agreement between Canada, Mexico, and America, initially brokered and lauded by Trump as “terrific,” is now being scraped. The stated reason, a national security threat due to fentanyl originating from the Canadian border (approximately 43 pounds in 2024), is bogus. This pretend “security threat,” allows Trump to circumvent congressional oversight and undermine constitutional norms. Canada's historical contributions to the United States are extensive, including WWI, fighting Hitler in WWII for two years before they joined the fight, declaring war against Japan WWII after Pearl Harbour before America did, was 25% of D-Day’s landings, support during the Iranian hostage crisis, after 9/11, in Afghanistan, and during natural disasters like Hurricane Katrina and California wildfires. However, Canada is now being treated transactionally, with a lack of respect to a historical friend and ally.

This is very scary. Again, what Trump is doing makes no sense - there is no economic or political sense to it. So what is he doing it for ?? To reduce our trade deficit? We have a huge deficit with Canada because we import so much oil from them, which our refiners require. On top of that we get Canadian oil for first cheap when compared to the global price mark for oil. This keeps US petroleum prices LOW! So okay if this is the issue, why not just find ways to improve the economics of U.S. oil production instead of smacking all Canadian imports with a 25% hammer ??? He has ulterior motives and it’s to weaken the American spirit and sell what he has on American to Russia. And our Congress isn’t doing anything !!!

Two things come to mind after hearing about all this stuff. Why you go on live TV and waste your time when you could attempt to talk it out with the American government? Also, if the United States is posing a 25% tariff in Canada is doing the exact same thing isn't it more or less a wash?

Well, I am from America and I never heard of such a bunch of whiny babies in my life. Canada imports food from the US. So 25% tariffs on that food will hit Canadians big time. And there is no other place to get that food. I am afraid Trudeau is standing on glass legs.

Trump is NOT starting a trade war. He is equalizing the playing field. Canada was already imposing a 25% tariff on the US unfairly. Now they are charging 50% tariffs. Not fair at all!
