I have a friend living outside Hamilton, her husband died not being able to see the specialists he needed in a timely fashion. Her Daughter had a life threatening disease, she lived close enough to NY to take her daughter there for treatment that saved her life. She’ll tell you straight to your face that Thank God for US Doctors!!! Or her daughter would be dead as well.

I totally agree that this country will break your spine and test your ultimate willpower. Me and my wife came here 5 years back and we decided that we will shut ourselves like a tortoise. My first pay was 19 dollar per hour and my current pay is 87 per hour. My wife started with 16.5 per hour and now earning 69 per hour. We moved out of basement and felt immense pride. We paid 37% down payment and 3 banks approved our mortgages in a heartbeat. No debt at all. We paid up our car in full. I moved to Toronto in 2021 in search of a better life but only found poverty, crime and hopelessness. Just like hundreds of thousand of immigrants, I was lured into the idea of a first world country, and spent my life savings to move there. As a highly skilled worker, I am barely able to make ends meet working a job I’d be making at least 3 times more in my home country (Brazil). I am moving to the US now as cost of living is far lower and average pay is much higher.

Canada is suffering because of bad leadership. The government is unable to step in in housing, because that would mean lowering the global value of it. Unable to step in in services, because it is stuck with unions that support laziness instead of competences and performances. Unable to step in in anything because it is controled by a literal mafia that totally surrounded the government and pull the strings of every ministers who are no longer there for the people they represent, but afraid of being killed by those mafiosies. \n\n So the honest worker is mostly doing 32k a year with charges that are about 30k a year. That means most people are going paycheck to paycheck, unable to afford savings, nor think about retirement. Unable to afford to improved their housing situation, paying rent that is so high that it should be consider a crime. \n\nIn fact, i predict many landlord will be killed in the coming years, by people losing their mind, because of incredible amount of stress they are suffering from. You think i am joking? Just the last 2 days, 2 woman lost their life because of being beaten to death by their husband... \n\nThis country is failing and failing fast because it doesn't take care of its population anymore... it is a doom country and immigration was the nail in the coffin. The system is unable to sustain such a demand. The next year is gonna see an incredible rise in criminality, and i foresee mass murdering events, like there was in the US.

I make more than twice the average annual income in Canada. I still struggle to save despite not spending on nice things or taking vacations. Car Insurance costs are higher than the US. Healthcare situation is horrifyingly bad. Groceries are 15% higher. Childcare costs are higher if you are even lucky to find a spot in one. Cars cost more and so does gas. Taxes are higher than the US while salaries are almost 30% lower. On top of that, you can't really claim a lot of tax credits like in the US for being married or having work related expenses. It's a punishment to live in canada these days. Unless you have inheritance from your parents, forget about ever owning a home in GTA, Ottawa, Vancouver, Montreal. There are other cities in canada too but job prospects for most educated folks are sparse and the weather is worse. Leave Canada if you can.

Many Filipino,indian,pakistani engineers, whom I knew, spent many thousand us dollars went to Canada with their families to improve their lives.but, when they arrived in Canada, they worked not as an engineer, but worked in a position below engineers, like skilled workers.so, salary is low,everything expensive. You are right, all over the world there's inflation but in Canada there's no savings, huge tax, no job security all over Canada, where we can get lay off after years of hard work in a company. Canada encourages people to be in debts, tons of credit cards. As a Muslim I think the same for the upbringing of kids in Canada which is very difficult almost impossible. All your reasons are the same reasons me and my husband want to leave Germany. Both of us were born here. Grew up here, but the stance what German Politicians are taking and how they are pushing the people here to hate on Muslims is insane. I always faced racism as a brown kid, as Germans in the 90s were super racist. My parents fled a genocide and ethnic cleansing themselves. So they thought at least we kids would grow up happy and safe here. Never felt home and at peace in this country. Ironic when you think how they are obsessed here with rules and laws. And so we made the decision to save up our money for the next 2- 3 years and as soon my husband finishes his higher education we are going to leave this country for good.

With 9 month of experience, I am truly considering going back to my country, here you cannot get a job related to the degree that you have even having 3 years experience with. They will pay the lowest in the low despite the Glassdoor average salary. Add on the high living cost and complex extremely long hiring process, there is no good career path and is all about survival. This is sadly true, I came to Canada ??a 1,5 years ago leaving my con try where I had a nice job, good pay both me and my wife and were able to travel twice a year. Here in Canada more than 50% of my salary is eaten by rent, my wife is struggling to find a job and it’s impossible for us to save, worst than that sometimes we use our savings to close the months. Now everybody who is asking me for advice on how to come or preparing to come after getting their PR, I tell them stay where you’re at least you have a good situation in your home, you’re familiar with your country problems so there is no benefits coming here and living a shitty life.

And then there are all the little things that happen day to day. In each event, we received top notch care and services. So, you might earn more in the US but we save more in Canada and very few suffer from it. A lot of complaints? Most bad experiences are shared whereas positive ones are not. I think if people on both sides really looked, the US health care fails many more people per capital on a daily basis than in Canada. US insurers are known to abandoned people when they become overly expensive and its not unusual to not have choices in drugs or care options.

I'm Canadian and live very close to the border. Like, really really close, in the rural area. I cross all the time to grab things I can save money on. But I wouldn't live in the US for all the money in the world. People I talk to down there are all crazy.

I am currently living in Canada, but wanted to move to California to get a “higher pay” in my field. \nWhat’s holding me back is the healthcare in Canada. In my union, I get 100% insurance in Vision, Dental, Check-ups, Drug Prescription etc.. \nMind that I NEVER waited for months nor years to get any Health related appointments.\nIn the US, (My friends in the same field) says that their health insurances are not 100% covered unlike in Canada.\nBut, I’m also thinking “If I could get a higher pay, then I could pay for the remaining balance” \nWhat I’m scared of is, until when am I able to pay for that? The us could easily fix these peoples’ problems by invading any Western Hemisphere country and in the new constitution say that no head of state or assembly members can serve more than 10 years before a new leader was elected by the people in elections monitored by the Western Hemisphere states! I'm a permanent resident in Canada, and I'm on track to become a citizen in a couple years. My sister is a head doctor at one of the biggest and most well known and well respected hospitals in the US. She's saved countless children. And it took her 10 years to get her green card and additional years to become a citizen. It took me 3+ years to get my permanent residence and it'll have taken me 6-7 years to become a citizen. And I'm just an animator. \n\nCanada's immigration system is expensive and time consuming, but it's fair, has a reasonable time frame, and it's much less arbitrary than the systems in the USA. I have my fair share of complaints but I feel exceptionally lucky that the system doesn't feel like it's actively working against me.

As a 25 year old woman living in one of the most expensive cities in Canada, i thankfully have affordable rent and a job with good work life balance and zero debts, but I find saving and getting into the housing market a task more difficult than climbing Mount Everest. This Canadian lived in Orange County CA for 10 years. I took my the 12 year old with me. I had been offered my dream job and was paid enough to have a good standard of living. However, I lived in an immigrant community to save money as I found many of the high schools were horrid compared to Canada. I had not realized the school to school inequality to be so extreme and my kid changed to independent study at home. So with a Canadian elememtary education, they graduated high school a year only while skipping no courses..\n\nMy kid had medical issues and even with good HMO insurance, we could never get a decent diagnosis until it had gotten so bad that their digestive system was so wrecked. I finally sent them back to Canada for the surgery that we could not get in the USA. It seemed the insurance companies kept getting in the way. And in one case a doctor went all religious on us. After 6 years of almost continuous pain they finally got relief for a decade until the prior damage came back to haunt them However, after a year of university ib Canada my kid went to a private university in the eastern USA. They have decided to remain in the USA and now in their mid 30s, they make really good money anf have top line medical insurance which pays for the ongoing care they need because of the damage caused by delays when a teenager. \n\nI found life in the suburbs of Orange County nice but the OC is not a good place to meet people. When after 10 years there, in 2010 I returned to Vancouver to care for my elderly mother. I had been living alone for 6 years by then and was offered the first job in Vancouver anything close to me dream job there. and I returned to Canada at age 59. I had been approved for a green card in 2008 but there was a 6 year wait for it to come through. But I noticed the racism in the USA start breaking out all over the place when Obama got elected. And it has gotten worse and worse every year. Especially with 45 enabling it so much. \n\nMy circle of friends in Southern California are mainly good people and not at all like what we call MAGA-hats now. Except one who thinks 45 was the greatest. Politically, the USA is on the path that Germany was on in 1933 and I fear for the US Democracy if the Orange One gets in again. Even my kid and their spouse have bug out plans to head to Canada just in case. This is why my kid, while having a green card has never taken US citizenship. Besides, being a Canadian has not affected things the two times they got security clearances \n\nWhile most Americans are good people, it seems that about 25% have gone just plain loco and care nothing about democracy. And appear to prefer the USA to be a totalitarian theocracy \n\nI was there long enough, paying the maximum FICA taxes for 10 years to get a small pension from Social Security and I have Medicare Part A. I can afford to buy parts B and D but I see no reason. I have even better coverage in Canada for way less cost. The USA has a nice warm climate in many places and I just loved that. But otherwise y'all have too many people who want to turn the place into an intolerant police state and to return the country to 1950s levels of intolerance, So in my retirement, I will stay here in Canada. Even though I could go and move in with my kid in the USA and get onto US Medicare.

No your education system is not good. You have a few good universities but your k through 12 is rated as one of the worst of the 1st world countries on the world wide education scale. Compared to Canadians you do seem batshit crazy. You let your kids get shot in schools. It makes no sense that you take away women's rights to save children but let them get shot in schools. So one right is more important than another!!! You let citizens die of rather simple diseases because of lack of health care. Well, despite many of the answers here, there are more Canadians emigrating to the US than Americans immigrating here. Considering the population difference, the disparity is huge. To make things worse, most of the emigrants are highly educated in specialized industries. Often, it's for economical reasons as income in some industries is ridiculously higher in the US than anywhere else in the world, Canada included. This brain drain is one of the reasons cited for the expected poor economic growth for Canada in the coming decade, at least compared to other developed nations. The one saving grace here is that there are a lot more qualified immigrants coming in from other countries than Canadian emigrants.

The single issue I would have would be the healthcare one. But as of now, this year of our lord 2023, Canada is on a slip-n-slip straight to socialist hell. And I would have a difficult time finding any other reason not to choose the US. Even with the health care, since the pandemic - and possibly because of mass firings - our system has been so stressed it's now actually as dire as Americans have always believed it was. On top of that, people in need of life saving surgery's are being refused if they haven't been jabbed, people are literally bring left to die. We have a housing crisis and a homelessness crisis, so what does our government do? Brings in a bunch of economic migrants to further stress our system. All in all, the US would be a much better option today.

I would not consider moving to the US because I have a lot of health problems and I wouldn't be able to get coverage for my conditions. In Canada I've had 4 times when I've had to go in for emergency surgery and they get me into surgery in a few hours (basically the time it takes to do all the blood work and prep). I know people complain about long wait times, but that's only for non threatening illness/injuries. There can be a line of people waiting for hours with their minor injuries, but that's because people with serious problems get bumped to the front of the line. That has saved my life on multiple occasions. I've also had to wait 4 months for surgeries that weren't life threatening, so I know what that's like too, but I'd rather wait longer for something non life threatening knowing that it's because they leave room for emergencies. \nMy sister moved to the US a year ago for her husband's job and his job has benefits that cover everything. They seem to enjoy it (they live in one of those custom built communities in Florida that is basically a Country Club)
