Twenty years ago the average IQ was 100 in Canada. Today it is 90 and trending down. Canada has become a tax farm for increasingly authoritarian governments at all levels to harvest as they please to enrich themselves and keep an iron fisted hold on power. If Canada was the 51st state of the U.S.A. it would be the poorest state, with the highest taxes, the largest debt and the lowest GDP. My advice to young people? GET OUT WHLE YOU CAN!

I may receive a lot of criticism for my opinion, but I feel compelled to share my experience as a resident and worker in this country. I immigrated to Canada from Ukraine in 2022 and have since been living and working in Winnipeg. This country has offered me numerous opportunities, even though I do not hold high-ranking positions. My wife and I are able to save a bit of money for unforeseen expenses. Just when I started to feel settled and thought that things were going quite well, I encountered numerous videos claiming the opposite, particularly highlighting the scarcity of affordable housing. \n \nDespite the prevalence of such content, my personal experience differs. I pay $725 for housing with a salary of $2.3K, which I find to be a reasonable balance. Some might say I was fortunate, but affordable housing ranging from $800 to $1000 is readily available in Winnipeg, and this is just one city's example; there are many other cities across Canada. \nFrom my perspective, the issue of housing affordability is overstated and not solely attributable to the country's policies. Such scenarios can occur in any nation if half the population desires to reside within 4% of its land area (namely, Toronto and its vicinity), leading inevitably to soaring prices – that's simply economics. \n \nIt's not my place to dictate how Canadians should live, but it appears to me that the crux of the problem lies in the uneven distribution of the population. As the second-largest country globally, Canada can comfortably accommodate 40 million people or even significantly more. However, this necessitates a collective understanding that concentrating the population in a single city may not be the most prudent approach.

I guess that guy asked extra fees, tips for issuing a visa to people, just like what those people always do in third world countries such as India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Africa. When Chinese tourists go to these shithole countries, their Customs people always ask for paying them extra money, otherwise they hold people without letting them go. Hosting the refugees is the least one can do. The dude complaining about the volunteers for social services work getting paid is redic. This is work and to maintain it getting done consistently and as often as needed you need to pay peers or employees for their time and work. Yes some people will hold to volunteer work, I do volunteer work myself. But if you're volunteering you're more likely to call out for silly reasons or not work as hard and then you end up short staffed and people not getting the help they need. I have worked in these encampments, got paid, but provided the camps with harm reduction supplies, food & water, and toiletries as well as helping people call Central Intake and references to medical support. That is still work, I would usually walk about 10km a day with a heavy bag on my back and I'm poor disabled person myself. \n\nAs well as addressing unhoused folks using substances, would you want to go to detox while not having a home? It feels absolutely horrible and getting sober when you don't have a bed to shower in, a toilet to use, a shower to clean yourself up in, is really f*cking hard. A lot of people start using substances like meth to help them survive as well, needing it to stay up at night so you don't get attacked at night sleeping. Don't shame substance use, but especially substance use with the unhoused.

Toronto has a weird hold on Canadians. I think Toronto is one of the ugliest, most soul destroying cities in the world. It’s freezing in winter and boiling in summer. There is no center and the people are unfriendly. Now add the the cost of living, crime, and you’re looking at a sh/hole.

Toronto has been on the decline for the last forty years. Crime, drug addicts, lazy people and polution is everywhere. Why? We do not hold anyone accountable for their actions.

The time has come to hold accountable a crazy prosecutor who is running around trying to catch former President Donald, a DA who enjoys invading the border, and Biden who is turning the country into a chaotic hell. A civil war-like tragedy is occurring every day in the United States due to these three incompetent people who stand above the law. Citizens and upright politicians, the time has come to stand up and make things right. There is no longer any reason for our border to be brutally invaded and for the country to be turned upside down by prosecutors who recklessly enforce the law with blood in their eyes to catch a former president who does not have the truth. Everyone must fight as one for the truth, for the country, and for the future of the country.

Who on Earth would want to live here? We are such a depressing and failing culture and society. We have placed ourselves in a situation where nothing properly can grow here. Canada will get far more depressing over the next decades. I tell people all the time don't come here, you'll pay more than money for coming here. And I tell people, who are able, to leave. Find a better place to call home. Canada can't be home to people. Not with how we are easily dislodged, displaced and how everything around us is on fire and burning down. \n\nDon't come to Canada unless you're suicidal and want to die, or you happen to be super rich and you can make it. \n\nCanada will be losing many many Canadians in the future. Whether it's people leaving the country, whether it's people returning to their old countries, or whether it's people killing themselves off desperately trying to find solutions to problems. \n\nPlease don't come here people. \n\nCanada is a horrible place to live. And if I could leave here, I would. But alas I'm a very poor Canadian. So that leaves me with options of suicide later in life, at least Canada is getting programs together for that and the options become more accessible every passing year. If we are going to make a country filled with shit, we at least need to give options to people to leave instead of holding them to a slave system that goes nowhere.

I'm an immigrant and my immigrant friends and I were talking about exactly this just the other day. I'd like to add some context on why so few international students stay: they can't. Schools prey on this very fact. In international recruiting, these schools use the promise of thriving local industries and trot out graduates working locally as major draws to these expensive programs. Then once students are in Canada, many of these schools couldn't care less: they offer little or sometimes no housing support, no immigration advice (or in my case and many of my friends' cases: they give straight-up false immigration advice that can screw you over or even get you in trouble). There absolutely needs to be regulation and accountability for these predatory schools; I think a good starting point would be capping the number of visas they can apply for based on the number of housing units available (either on-campus or via local development subsidy and homestays). Tons of students come to Canada completely unprepared due to false promises made by these schools, and then get spit out into an egregiously inefficient and broken work visa system.\nMy immigrant friends and I are all highly skilled in our specific field. There are only a handful of people in the world (let alone in Canada) who can do what I do at the level I do it, so I would be incredibly difficult to replace if I left Canada. Despite that, and despite being Canadian-educated (Canadian resources invested in me that you'd want to keep in Canada), remaining in Canada has been a massive struggle for me and my friends. We individually spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars every year to apply for permits that have to be renewed annually, but take the government 6+ months to process. Because the government is so backed up, we have to apply for *extra* permits to bridge that gap (more money, and more work added to IRCC's already-long line of applications). I'm in limbo for the majority of the year where I can't switch employers, can't leave the country, etc. It's horrible. \nBut I have it better than most. Of the international students in my year, only I and one other student are still in Canada because the transition to work permits is so needlessly long and difficult. Even a graduate who does manage to get a work permit might have to sit unemployed for 6 months or more before that permit is active. How is a student supposed to survive without work for that long? In order for employers to even apply to sponsor a graduate, they often have to do a lengthy labor market impact assessment, and so these graduates are stuck in a holding pattern, and they're the lucky ones. Immigration is absolutely vital to Canada and I hate how quickly these stories turn to xenophobic rhetoric, but we have to make space in the conversation to take a look at how schools are exploiting students and policy loopholes, and why they're doing it, and address those problems. The current system isn't fair to anyone.

Good at the end of the day, we don’t need to defund things like police, what we need is to defund school. At this point, it’s a useless system that’s been overdated. It’s does absolutely nothing for the Canadian and the Canadian working class, and just gives international student a free pass to a PR statue. Which doesn’t nothing but take up resources. At fanshew college it’s basically a place with a bunch of immigrants using it as a holding cell till they meet the requirement and what’s funny is that all fanshew Programs and degree only take not even haft of the minimum effort to pass and get a diploma. So now we are recruiting a bunch of immigrant who are gonna rely things like our society infrastructure which ends up taking away resources for people that actually contribute to this country. IMO it’s a bit of both to blame but Canada need to step there foot down and say enough is enough, I got took advantage but not anymore. Having had a friend that worked with Immigration, he told me that they have a department that literally just goes around hunting down people who entered Canada via student visas, but literally just disappear to work once they enter the country.\n\nCanada doesn't even have a hold on their refugee issues - how can Canada still accept more people?

The sad thing is that there are basically only 3 options in Canada for living in an urban area and all the crappy suburbs in the country are filled with people who yearn for that type of living, further contributing to higher demand for these already scarce places to live. There are so many factors that contribute to the absurd costs of living in the country and the lack of incentive to live in places outside the 3 major cities is a huge sticking point. \n\n\nImproving this aspect is going to require massive change on so many fronts (less car-dependent neighbourhoods, denser housing, better public transit, among other things), but people are so resistant and fearful of these changes despite yearning for it that they don't realize their stubbornness is a self-inflicted choke-hold.

I lived in Toronto from '95-2000, 2003-2004, and finally from 2010-2019, and watching its slide has been terrible. But I'm old enough to remember what it was like in the late '70s when it was still functional and people had no yet become miserable. It's astonishing what greed and stupidity can do. Having lived in Calgary and on both coasts as well as Australia and Japan (where I'm on my second stint) I now see Canada as no longer designed as a home for citizens but rather a holding pen for the fleecing of inmates.

This is a good example of what differentiates a Canadian from a person who holds Canadian citizenship. Not that you're wrong about the state of our morally bankrupt secular culture and government, but that's something that I'm going to fight against. I'm not going to run away, because this is my country that my ancestors spilled their blood for, and it's still worth fighting for, at least to me. I and every other Canadian have no other home to flee to. As far as Canada not being Muslim-friendly enough, why should it be. This is a Christian country founded on Christian morality and Christian-based law. I'm not an islamophobe, but I do believe that our cultures and people should remain separate, as they are quite alien to one another in many ways and there's no getting around that. They were very outspoken about their plans to buy everything, and hold onto it indefinitely while renting it out for very high rates. Every politician has bought 50 or more homes to do this with as well. Tucker carlson has a load of them, as well as every other tv personality. People from other countries stay 10 people per home, and collectively can afford much higher rates than americans living 1 family to a home, again driving rates ever higher. Government is soley responsible for the dollar becoming worthless so quickly. Wages will never keep up. The government makes more money by cramming as many people as possible into the country, directly at the expense of quality of life for the citizens. Nobody is protecting the interests of American citizens. We are all getting robbed blind by predators while we all appear to be blind deaf and dumb. Nothing happening is an accident. Every loser creates a winner somewhere.

That is 20% that could be supply to the market. \nAdd to that over leveraged investors, rich investors (legit or with money to launder) and corporations that scope up properties and government that takes so long to approve building permits that it is barely worth it to build in Canada, you have a massive unaffordability and bubble.

Im 58 from the philippines. In the 80s a lot of my friends immigrated to the us, canada, and other european countries. 30 yrs later after holding many jobs and getting laid off many times they never progressed beyond basic paycheck to paycheck existence. Many of them returned broken and broke. Whereas those who stayed in the philippined progressed in their careers and professions and became top people. Best decision of my life NOT to immigrate.
