My American husband and I moved to Los Angeles from Montreal, because of the fact there was still a lot of live music compared to other places. It was a great 17 years of music but guns started to be more of an issue. Health care was big, and was going to affect us soon, and then tRUmp came in . We knew that the changes were NOT going to be for better health care, or better gun laws, or better immigration policies, and we moved back to Canada. Now we don't even want to visit because of the current situation re all the aforementioned issues. I wouldn't dream of moving back. And numerous friends have asked how can they get into Canada. The Canadian immigration site crashed when tRump won. if not married to a Canadian, most people would be rejected. i appreciate our system of government; tRump would have been tossed out early on with a Vote of No Confidence.

No matter what kind of insurance you have, you still have to deal with a stupid amount of red tape and bureaucracy just to get your care covered, and the drug prices are out of control. and you have no idea when that horrible health issue is going to happen to you. In Canada, I go to the doctor, I give my health card, done deal. The healthcare system in Ontario particularly is under attack and they're trying to privatize hospital care by underfunding everything else. But our premier is also a Conservative Trump Lite wannabe who is buddy buddy with a lot of rich folks. There are absolutely problems here, Canada is dysfunctional in a lot of ways. But I would NEVER move to the states, definitely not as a disabled/chronically ill woman. Hell no. Also--we're not THAT nice, Americans are always surprised at how much Canadians dislike the USA. My brother moved there but he's much more conservative than me (for Canada) and his job doesn't exist here in Canada.

The exact words I was thinking:\n\nThere is not a chance in hell of me ever moving to the United States.\n\nReasons.\n#1. Gun culture.\n#2. Health Care.\n#3. Christian Theocracy.\n#4. The Sheer Near Total Insanity of the Republican Party. This includes the state of the Supreme Court, and the current barbaric handling of abortion.\n#5. The racial issues... that are still today influenced by the history of slavery.\n#6. The Issues around the Electoral College that allow a candidate to become president while losing the popular vote. Also the lack of an independent body to oversee elections. That is sheer madness.\n#7. Denser populations, and, as a related issue, greater pollution.\n#8. The Presidential Pardon... which is a concept that seems designed to facilitate the abuse of power.\n#9. Fox News, and the rest of the deeply manipulative right wing media... which I should have put much higher on this list.\n#10. Military spending... which also should probably be higher on this list.\n#11. The myth of American exceptionalism.\n#12. American ignorance of the rest of the world, in general.\n#13. The Criminal Code including the Death Penalty, which was eliminated in Canada many years ago.\n#14. Education.\n#15. The drastically increased potential for political violence ever since Trump entered the political arena. This one also should be higher on the list. The United States could not even get through a transfer of power without violence. This is beyond pathetic. The peaceful transition of power is the #1 job of first-world democracies.\n#16. Attitudes toward social problems such as poverty and drug addiction. \n\nNotice that #4 - #7 could be subdivided into more than one reason.\nI thought this list was going to have 5 or 6 items on it.

1. You have mass shooting EVERY F'ING DAY! EVERY DAY!!!!! \n2. The fact you just rushed past the abortion issue is concerning considering 50% of the pop is women, it is a vital area to consider if you care at all about women and their rights and right to choose. \n3. Healthcare in general.\n4. As a gay married man of 20 years your republicans can get bent. \n5. Your political corruption is INSANE and VERY evident. I had an american friend tell me that Trump did a good job cause N Korea and Russia didn't bomb the US while he was in office. \n6.

Absolutely not. We won't even visit the US anymore. We live in Canada and Mexico and try our best to not even have a layover there. My parents used to go to Yuma for 6 months and now go to mexico because they feel safer there. I grew up with many health issues and we would be bankrupt even with health insurance. And then my pregnancies from what i heard from other women with my condition it would have been at least $10000. I love my health care, female reproductive rights, gun safety and NO TRUMP

I ‘ve met so many Americans on trips and through living in San Francisco for 3 months for a course. They were very kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable people. I also love many beautiful places in the States. I find though, that the media ignores Canada to a great degree only reporting negative issues . I don’t care for the super nationalism of the government, the gun laws, the many wars they’ve been involved in, nor do I like the racism and the present divisiveness of the country given that a person like Trump could be voted in and have so much power! That is frightening! I could never have afforded my two hip and knee replacements as well as other surgeries and the birth of four children had I lived there consequently, I would make friends with Americans who move here withthe same principles, but no to moving to the United States OF America.I was happy to return to beautiful Vancouver Island, (which was voted one of the top Islands in the world by CNN, Time magazine and Conde Nast, )

I checked out of curiosity and there are only 6 states that have NOT had a mass shooting in 2023. There have been 383 mass. shooting. Maine, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, North and South Dakota. It's a big enough issue that there is an interactive map showing mass shooting. \n\nThat is enough of a reason to not move there. Plus you have Trump and I'd like to not even be on the same continent as that guy. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in north america. Maybe we should build a wall ? just kidding.

Why are they not opening fire? I'm not sorry for your situation as we have problems here too. If you want to act like fools charging the gates to our border, that is an act of war and should be treated as such. One warning shot would have made them stop. If they didn't stop you shoot one person. If that doesn't make them stop, you start taking ppl out. We need to protect our borders, protect them from criminals, drug mules, and the like. That means we need to do a background check before anyone can cross that border. Not letting them in, giving them a cell phone, giving them a place to live, not allowing them to work while they sit there waiting 2 years for a court date. Its beyond ridiculous and that is what the Democrats are doing. If you are cool with that, then you are an issue and should second guess your own citizenship in this country because we the people are always first, no one else. Our government has forgotten that for quite some time, but amazingly Trump actually was bringing it back. Thats coming from someone who hated Trump, voted for Biden, and regretted my vote in March of Biden getting in office.

Its Mexicos fault, they allow everyone to cross their own borders..Mexico gets a kick off seeing this and letting America deal with this issue..We need to stop funding Mexico if they can't do they're share..We need Trump back.Democrats & Biden are a bunch of Morons !

Its so sad to see but America is barely afloat as it is without having to deal with a mass migration. The numbers of dead wood we have coming across the channel in the uk is crazy. Not asylum seekers. Men for Albania with no family. Its why i voted for brexit. Yes its an economic shit but we get to close our borders out if EU government demands. We at least we would if our politicians were so fucking shit. Its a work in progress. Get past the simpleton that is trump and you still have a serious issues on the borders of America. Big boarders as well.

THIS SHIT IS MADE FUNNY TALK MAD SHIT ABOUT TRUMP VOTE FOR BIDEN . YEAH, HERES YOUR RESULT. AMERICANS DONT HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN. I LITERALLY TILL THIS DAY CANT FIGURE OUT OR MAKE SENSE ON WHY TRUMP WAS CALLED A BAD PRESIDENT. WHATEVER HE DID WITH HIS MONEY IS HIS PROBLEM. BUT HE DID SECURE AND PROVIDE A BACKBONE FOR OUR NATION. IM NOT INTO POLITICS. I LIKE FACTS RESULTS REALISTIC PRODUCTION. HERE FOLKS LMFAO YOU GOT MADE ISSUES . GOOD LUCK ?

CNN is part of the reason this is happening. The wall was very evil, until Biden continued its construction. CNN denied that there was even a migrant crisis the entire time Trump was president. Biden Administration has only RECENTLY admitted it's even an issue. This is the fault of Martha's Vineyard Democrats, The Biden Administration, and CNN.
|
| 2023-04-05 | 0 |
Why is CNN showing this now?? Are they admitting that Trump was always right and Biden is destroying the country from within?\nAlso... America sees it as a migration issue. That's the tumour. The symptom. You need to ask, why are people fleeing their own country and why CNN does not report THAT???
|
| 2023-04-04 | 0 |
This is yall fault for voting for Biden and kamala . We need stronger border protection and we need to put Americans first. If you have a issue about what I said than treat it like Trump wall and get over it
|
| 2023-04-02 | 0 |
Why is CNN covering something not serious in Canada but the wide open mexico border is fine ? ?????? How do you people watch this trash CNN, Fox MSNBC,abc all garbage liars ignoring the real issues CNN saying trump is a criminal well Hillary was smashing laptop's and phones as the FBI raided this world is so backwards when are you people going to wake up all of them Left & Right are destroying this country

But the AG and head of immigration and national security will say they're making all time highs for security and border protection. That the immigration issue isn't as bad as the media is making it out to be. They even have the audacity to blame trump still. They halted the border wall construction but still say the areas not finished are protected lol. They're a joke

People who think this is about Republicans vs Democrats don't have a clue and are just going with their biases. Obama deported more illegal immigrants than any other president (more than Trump I believe), Trump stiffened up the border, and Biden made measures to actually make it tougher for these Venezuelan immigrants to get into the US once the migrant herd was moving north. This is a result of Venezeula and their economic collapse. If it happened sooner, it would've happened during Trump's time. I'm sure once Biden is out and a republican is president (looks that way), they'll try it again. Even Mexico doesn't want them since they have their economic issues to deal with.

During the 1930's media in various countries made immigrants and asylum seekers out to be this horrible thing and demonised them. This came after a huge recession in 1923, the Wall Street crash, and the subsequent dramatic rise of far right parties in various countries, specifically Italy, then Germany and Spain. \nFast-forward to modern times. 2008 saw another global recession. Once again politics swung massively to the right with countries like Italy (once again), Hungary, Austria, Poland and Sweden, voting in right wing governments, France ending in a run off that narrowly defeated the far right, Belgium and Spain looking likely to be heading into heavily right wing governments at the next elections, whilst the US and UK governments both saw their politics swinging far further in that direction, especially the UK right now whilst led by an unelected leader who is demonising people in ways that would make Trump look soft. One of themajor rallying calls: immigration. The way media report on this becomes increasingly demeaning and hateful. During the 1930's much of the European media and even as far as the UK was ramping up the scorn against the ever increasing influx of Jewish immigrants coming from Germany. Even into 1944 there was a vast amount of demonisation of them seeking asylum, despite the knowledge by this point that there were horrific conditions in camps where extermination was becoming ever more apparent. The Nazi German government in 1936 passed laws that enabled them to revoke citizenship and stripped away laws on human rights. It would be great to say that these poor souls who were being demonised in their own country were accepted into nations who could see what was going on and who wanted to help, but that just wasn't the way it went. Media played out as it is now, leading to rejection and a greater number of deaths as a result of this. The way the UK government is currently working, it actually sounds like the maxi government of the mid 30's during the time of the Nürnberg laws. \n \nThe world feels far smaller now with double the amount of people and with things like social media playing a huge role in the lives of many. The ease of access to people around the world has made issues seem to stretch to far more countries now, whereas back then it was a time of empires. I get that there will be many here who support Trump, many who support Biden, there will be Brit's who support Sunak and the rather vicious words of Suella Braverman, whilst others will be more on the side of Starmer (I'm well aware of all the other parties but they don't stand to gain as much). There will be French people backing Macron, whilst others back Le Pen. We could go through each country all the way to the battle between Fujimori and Castillo in Perú, and the stories are much the same, but how will history judge us when people look back to this time? Will it be another occasion where we demonised those trying to escape the horror of the place they had the bad luck to be born in whilst we were luckier? \n\nI know there is hardship everywhere. I'm struggling more than most and I know I can't keep living this way. However, I don't want to be a part of history people look back at and say ‘if only they did something to help prevent this.’. I would rather be a part of history people look back upon and say; ‘that was a boring time period where nothing important happened’. It's already too late for that. Instead I try to remember that, though I was born into a family who never really wanted me, I was lucky enough to be born into a country that could support me during the hardest times. When you look at immigrants, remember that every one of us has immigrants in our family tree somewhere.

Canada actually has a stricter policy on refugees than the US. Although detention of asylum seekers is provided for under Canadian law, the criteria for its use appear to be tighter than in the US. In 2017(one year after Trump's administration), Canada had 6251 immigration detainees 2017 compared with 323,591 held by the United States that same year. And the US has insanely more cases of refugees than Canada. Canada's immigration policy has a preference for economic benefits, and the approval criteria for refugee claims are stricter too. Take a look at the Express Entry Programme. Most of the applicants have to get a master's degree to be granted a PR in Canada, but the US is more favourable on Family reunions or Refugees. Although Canada has its own problems, such as housing issues and a healthcare system that might worsen by increasing immigrants, in general, I think the US should learn something more on Canada's immigration policy which is on a talent basis.

Oh now CNN reports on this as if its a problem. Fing hypcrites pushing propaganda. This is a HUGE issue and Biden is allowing it to happen without a care in the world. Dont you see whats going on? He allows it he works for soros who did this same exact thing in multiple other countries and it ruins those countries. ALL BY DESIGN which is why they attacked trump nonstop for trying to stop it. Democrats hate you and this country a lot of repubs too theyre all working for corps and big money, were the collateral. Sad but true

LOL this is what happens when you vote for socialists. People were praising the Biden administration, and now they are suffering the consequences. Trump had a dirty mouth but he ensured capitalist policies gave businesses freedom. The US economy even doubled after issuing tax cuts. The current administration now has a global effect even on its neighbors. Theres a saying that goes, better the devil you know than the angel you DONT know.

Just imagine we heard this immigrant's sad story regarding just wanting a better life for his family. Some people will feel some compassion and say screw you Trudeau or Trump, let them all in, they just want to work, they are not criminals, screw laws, we are all immigrants here blah, blah blah. Let's not forget there are thousands and thousands maybe millions that has the same sad story and the same dream. If Canada don't build a wall, it will end up like America and have all sorts of immigration issues.
|
| 2018-09-12 | 0 |
So let me get this straight...........somehow, your PM's virtue signaling that Canada is an open paradise for immigrants, who come by the 10's of thousands only to loose all their money in legal fees an be denied is more virtuous than the U.S. saying do not come here illegally and wanting to build a wall? So Canada is allowed to enforce their immigration laws and the U.S. IS NOT? Canadians who criticize President Trump on this issue should be choking on their own hypocrisy, especially when our illegal problem is in the millions!

No, Canada is not a “big place with lots of room”!!! Over 70 percent of immigration, more if it’s illegal, settles in the Toronto area, which with its terrible infrastructure, lack of roads and housing is a nightmare to live in. We already are the 6th worse commute on the planet! We are up there with Bogotá, Columbia and Istanbul, Turkey! We don’t have motorcades to chauffeur us around!\n\nRace-tension is worse than ever because of the liberals calling everyone who isn’t Muslim or black a racist. 3 years ago race was not an issue and now it’s daily news all day long.\n\nAnd this asshole is making us BROKE! Taxes and costs are sky-high. God forbid you order anything from the states or anywhere else. Customs holds EVERYTHING and taxes the shit out of it because they know you can’t fight them. Trudeau has instructed this federal agency to COLLECT every last penny off Canadians and then some. I have never been whacked like this before and this started before the trump war. I HATE this POS and his damn smirk! Wake up Canada!

So I'm in a dilemma of whether I should move down to Florida and live with my American girlfriend, or stay up here and support her moving up here in Canada. My main issue is health care. I just hear many people have bad service and poor treatment with insurance down there, but it all depends what insurance your applying with. People are fairly nice, but there are also some douche bags as well so I'm not surprised. With my overall budget, I could likely stay down there for about a few months or so. Here in Canada, taxes are a little higher, but it's worth it (Some idiot said our taxes are lower), health care is paid for, winters are cold but anyone can survive through it. Some say Canada is a socialist (which is Not -_-). Liberal party is ruining Canada as it is in a way. But again, it's better Justin than Trump. (Betting for Scheer). Idk, politics is bad in both countries I say. Idk, I'm likely missing some things here. Should I move down with my girlfriend, or stay up and support her moving up here?
