We have Earthquakes drills in school, not mass-murder shooting drills in Canada. The first time I even touched a gun was to study for my gun license exam. I honestly felt really uncomfortable. I understand some Canadians shoot long-guns for hunting and lifestyle. I respect those people living in rural Canada. Things aren't perfect here, but I feel a sense of comfort and security here that I feel no where else.

I’m Canadian and sorry to break your heart but there is no way I would move down there. I don’t want to know I’m surrounded by guns, women’s rights are backwards there and I enjoy my free health care. My son, C-section and all was completely free. I live in a province that is considered the most “American” in its beliefs. Honestly I have thought about leaving my own province lately. Covid brought out all the weirdos.

I've only ever lived in Canada, but have been to many parts of the US, and my honest answer is: probably not. Don't get me wrong, there are many places and things in and about the US that I like, but, unless I was offered a job that was too good to turn down, I don't think I could ever live there. One of my closest friends is American, and lives only a few short hours away, but...Possible exceptions would be places like Maine or Vermont. I've read a stat numerous times over the years, that there about as many people in the US who cannot afford health insurance than there are people in all of Canada. It's a shame because the USA has top tier medical facilities, but access is not guaranteed.\n\nPS: from a Canadian perspective, I really enjoy your honest reactions, and applaud your efforts to educate yourself. Tyler, I can see you are sadden by these reactions and I feel for you. Honestly, I love the USA and I would actually live there in a heartbeat for all the positive reasons I know and love about the US. However, as Mom and a soon to be school age child, I would hesitate because of that. Canada has its own issues and don’t let everyone fool you. It’s not some social utopia. We have problems too just different. It’s like you said you need to pick a good, safe safe to live in. The same advise applies to Canada. @Tyler Bucket I've been to the US many time, and there are some very beautiful places there. I've found the people to be kind, warm and welcoming and I love visiting. If I had to move to the US I have a list of favorite places, but honestly, I love living in Canada and being Canadian. The US would be a good alternate, but unless somethin catastrophic happened here, I can't see my self living in the US.

I personally would in a second. \nI have lived in both countries and hands down it's better living down there. \nExperience living in multiple cities in multiple states.. and living in basically every major city and a lot of small towns in Canada.. Canadian here.\nVisit the USA, sure I have several times. I have met some lovely people and seen some beautiful things. My family is going to Flordia soon and we are really looking forward to it, even though we disagree with the governor and don't really want to support the state that supports him. \n\nMove there, HELL NO. I live in Ottawa, Ontario and grew up in a Canadian surburb and honestly I can't complain..lol \n\nActually, my parents have done very well for themselves. I know plenty of Haitians who have done very well for themselves too.\nMy parents are both retired enjoying life ??\n\nI live in a white neighborhood and never had any issues. I only had issues with black kids.\n\nCanada has a horrible history as well, especially with the Natives however, I'm still glad I was born in Canada ??\n\nI'm blessed to be able to work from home and make a six figure income.

We have the talent and brains to be innovative, yet so many of us go work in the oil & natural gas sector because it pays handsomely.\nAlso to live in the most scenic provinces like BC and Ontario is crazy expensive. We moved from AB to BC in 2009 which my parents bought their house for $550,000 that's situated 40km East of Vancouver, and today their house is valued at 1.4 million... almost 3 times the original purchase price in just over a decade. Now an adult, my wife and I were forced to move back to Alberta and leave our families because we simply cannot afford to rent there nor ever have an honest shot at saving enough money to buy our own place. It is what it is and I'm sure it's a common theme that's not only exclusive to Canada, but man, it does sucks. I'm happy for any immigrants to move here and call Canada their home too, but many are loaded with money and purchase numerous properties just to then rent it out at an absurd rate because they can. It's fueling the problem worst and making it unfair for the born & raised Canadians.

I think people with You Tube videos promoting Canada as a place to live are paid to do those videos. \nYour assessment regarding Canada is bang on. \nI feel sad for people who come here with the belief that their lives will be better, Only to find out that they are far worse off. \nI've noticed the cost of groceries and housing have tripled in the last few years.\nVery difficult to get a Dr in Canada. 50.000 people in my small province are without a Dr. \nPeople are being neglected by Canada's healthcare system to the point of dying right in the hospital waiting rooms or while waiting for an ambulance. Yet, A huge chunk of taxes go toward healthcare. \nHomeless encampments are on the rise as landlords are gouging people for exorbitant rent. Streets are lined with homeless people and with the high cost of living it could be anyone of us carting our humble belongings around in a shopping cart.\nIf you have children I'd avoid sending them to Canadian schools and opt for homeschooling. After watching this video if you think that what is going on in Canada is not crazy, then take note of the fact that Trudeau government is also making it even harder for gas and oil companies, mineral extraction and even farmers to basically do their job. While Norway, Arab countries and even US are ramping oil and gas production, in Canada Trudeau is concerned more about increasing carbon tax and the rainbow flags. Honestly I'm very disappointed in this country, it's becoming worse and worse here. Prices are through the roof, housing is insanely expensive, even car prices are higher than in USA. You can tell theyve never been to the US. Our emergency rooms can be all day long as well. And the taxes and health care costs end up being the same. Canadians are really misguided when it comes to their taxes. That tax situation is literally the same in the US. Its a false narrative that US people pay less in taxes when you build in the SEPARATE health care costs. For example, I pay 24% in taxes based on my tax bracket. Those taxes do not include the extra health care costs of having a PPT with health care premiums and deductibles- which is an extra 9330 (so an extra 10%)- so now we are paying the same- literally 34% between taxes and health care. AND add to that- the health care that we pay does not cover lab work and copays and medicines. Thats all out of pocket. So its honestly the same cost. It would be MORE fair to live in Canada where everyone gets that taken out of their taxes. Instead in the US, I pay for my health care, and poverty income people get free Medicaid. Then these girls talk about the cost of living? They have never been to the TRI state area.

Weather-wise, Australia beats Canada — maternity leave-wise, Canada beats Australia hands down. Australia is pretty isolated compared to Canada …mostly because Canada is next to the USA. Australia is overpriced in terms of groceries etc. and the extreme weather in Canada makes life expensive. Many Canadians move to the US for a reason. Australia is terrible with family reunions and visas for parents etc. There is a reason over 1 million Aussies prefer to live and work elsewhere — including myself — I was fortunate enough to get my PR in the US.

Yeah it's hard to find a job and keep the job in Canada. Even with a job that doesn't require education and anybody can do, I come across someone who is not happy with me being there and they try to find reasons why I shouldn't work there ?it happened 16 years ago when I first got into workforce and it happened not too long ago again. I was inventory clerk counting products at different stores. I believe I was an accurate counter and someone who recounted them told my manager I wasn't good. She said many of them I counted were either off or she couldn't understand my writing. And the manager had to have a talk with me. I can honestly say I was better counter than she was. And I feel very confident I was very careful with counting that day too. But she thought otherwise. I couldn't bear working with someone or some people who didn't appreciate my work or my presence there so I had to quit. It will happen again and I thought it wouldn't matter how accurate I am at counting. One of my Canadian colleagues once told me that it's okay for immigrants to live in Canada but it's not okay to work with them. I don't know if that's a fact but in my experience I have encountered some people like that along the way.

100% I was born here and lived in the US growing up. And its alot to give up for a better healthcare system. The healthcare system is honestly so good by comparison that I'd say this keeps Canadians here. But it is not far or equitable in any way. And with the pandemic it has accelerated this inflation people have felt... but are now fully aware of that impact our lives in meaningful ways every 5 years. We are now like ten years or more in the future on what that impact looks like.\n\nI don't want to work because there is no point. I am working but I don't care like I used to. I don't care about advancement anymore. Bogus Canadian Companies!! What makes these companies bogus?? Yes, it is real hard for honest educated people seeking to immigrate to Canada following Canadian Government Rules. Irony? ?

My wife, my 3 kids and I used to like Vancouver but not anymore!!! The weather is why we plan to leave for good but also the expensive rents! I also heard about horror stories at many hospitals (and yes, I have worked in Africa and to be honest, Africans hospitals are way more functional than the ones in Canada in terms of human aspect… there they care, Canadians do not give a shit about anyone!!! And I am saying this as a Belgian!!! I have some African colleagues at work here and at least 80 percent of them either want to go back to Africa (one is actually going to start an Afro business there and build his own house) or move to Europe (one of them plans to live to my homeland Belgium and two others in France as apparent the pensions there are way better than the Canadian one) as soon as they get enough experience in canada! None of us at work , including me, want to retire or get old here in Canada! For me personally, it is the Canadian extreme loneliness and lack of willingness to open to others that really shuts me down… I am fed up and and tired of paying taxes in a country where some (not all) hospitals and some retirement homes treat patients like … objects, not human beings! I now understand (as before I did not) why even some of my African colleagues are looking forward to go back to Africa or to some of them, immigrate to Europe! .. none of us want to be left alone and depressed in this so highly individualistic and unfriendly, falsely “cool” country called Canada… a country that claims America and France are racist countries when not even one CEO in Canada is coloured! After speaking with countless immigrants in my area over the 12 years in Halifax, I have met so many perfectly qualified people even from the UK with English who couldn't work in their field without more credentials. Many I know left and are leaving. Plus, we need more doctors yet they make it so hard for newcomers. The government should make this better or at least be more honest especially if they want people to stay. Very informative even for someone who is a Canadian and born here.

to be honest Canadian experience is overrated.

Honestly, as a Canadian living in Vancouver which is the most expensive city in Canada, I can barely afford to pay for my monthly home mortgage in addition to the monthly condo fee, buy my weekly groceries, put gas in my vehicle at this time of hyper-inflation. I really don't want my income tax, consumption taxes (GST and PST which is a tax on tax), carbon tax, and property tax collected by the various levels of governments from me so that my hard earned money would be squandered on these Uranian refugees. I don't owe any of them a living. The news media said there would be tens of thousands of them wanting to settle in Vancouver. If these refugees are entitled to government benefits after they arrive, then so should I! Where are we housing these refugees when we can't even house the homeless people in East Hastings?

Honestly, I'd rather befriend a Canadian than an American. Especially since early 2020.\nNot that I hate my US friends, of course. Online is fine. But if I have to visit them in person? That's a quick pass. Unless they have moved to Canada, that is.

In Australia I had someone guess that I was Canadian. He said afterward that he based that on his experience that Canadians tended to be offended by being mistaken for Americans, but Americans didn't seem to mind being mistaken for Canadians.\nA couple of days later I mentioned that to a Canadian. He was a little surprised and told me that it would never occur to him to be bothered by that. I asked why not and he reminded me that Canada had over 30 million people while the Untied States had over 300 million. It's not personal. If you honestly have no idea and are just rolling the dice with your answer then your odds of being right are ten times higher if you guess Untied States.
