US immigration system is broken but it's still the best in western world if you are in engineering, mathematics and tech. I studied and worked in US, moved to India for personal reasons. I realized its difficult to adjust back in India, and US will never let me naturalize, so I moved to Canada. But Canada has hardly any jobs of its own, most of people in tech here work for American companies. In US, even an aerospace, biomedical, virology or genetic engineering person can find job in his/her field despite being on job visa, but in Canada its very tough. \nFew weeks back, I met an Uber driver who came to Canada 4+ years back, mechanical/automative engineer and was not able to find a job in his field despite no need for license with advance education and many years of relevant experience. He became Canadian citizen few weeks back, and guess what, he received 2 job offers in US and was moving to US on TN visa. \nI am myself working on something in Canada that is not my specialization. In US, I can get multiple messages from top government contractors for scientist/researcher positions, but I could not work for them as I don't have citizenship. In canada, despite being a PR, I know many experienced people who are forced to drive uber or do survival jobs.

I think the best plan is to immigrate to Canada first, spend a few years there, get work experience, and become a Canadian, apply for a high paying job in the US right before you are about to become a Canadian. That way you get both a high paying job and the mental security that even if you get deported somehow all you needed to do is to a drive a fully packed Uhaul across the border.

I absolutely agree. Australia is one of the best countries to live with a work-life balance. They have yet to talk about 10% super contribution which was made to their retirement fund. There are heaps of vegetarian, kosher, halal options. People are super friendly and very humble and polite. It is heartbreaking to hear this. In emergency it depends what is happened to you. Australia has the highest labour wage in OECD I think now at $24 + super. Reigonal areas like Canberra, TASMANIA etc they are not to bad.

We made friends with people that moved here from Wisconsin. It didn’t take long before we noticed they were trying to recruit our friends and us that Putin should be admired, black people are less than, Trump is the best President. When you try to minimize inequality you drag the top achievers downwards to the dregs of society, it never goes in the other direction. Inequality is a positive good because it means in a free capitalist society that the person got a job or maybe started a business and is getting more money for producing something of worth. The unequal person is of course at home doing drugs, playing video games or being idle. The best societies can only be unequal. As an example when you start out of school you make peanuts but then you become a self made millionaire and then you are drastically unequal to your school leaving young self.

Maybe it's just because of the news, but really, the school shootings are TOP of mind for me. Like, how is that even possible, to have that many crazy people who want to murder children, and not only that, but those crazy people have access to guns? \nI don't say anything to my American cousins, as I realize that they have ties, they've married Americans, they've built a life, and there's no sense me freaking out about things that they won't change, and insulting their choices.\nBut... I was SHOCKED that even after they started having children, they still didn't move back to Canada. They can do it, they have dual citizenship! \n???\nIt's like sending your kids to school on a boat in a river full of crocodiles. It's not guaranteed that nothing bad will happen to them, and it's hard to let them go, but you trust and pray and hope for the best.\nAnd then you see your cousin's kids sailing down that same river sitting on a log with their feet dangling into the water! It's horrifying, even if they assure you that usually the crocs don't come to this side of the river, and mostly they're not hungry in the morning anyway. It seems like reckless disregard. And for what? So the parents can make more money? It's not worth it in my opinion.

Some other options are continuing to remain in school or looking into other visa types. I usually really like PolyMatter but this video is clearly biased and missing important details. \n\nWhat this video does not talk about is that we already have millions of H1B in this country competing for jobs with American citizens; go into any IT department of most banks, and you will find mostly H1B workers. Walking into any major university career fair, you will see the predatorial scene of hordes of foreign master students competing against American bachelors for the same new grad jobs; with many of the foreign students already having real career experience in their own country competing against inexperienced American young adults. \n\nThis video also does not mention the H1B lottery is not a single-try event. Everyone is given 3 tries and it refreshes if you get another American degree. \n\nLastly, this video does not mention the fact that people not on American soil could also apply for the H1B lottery which contributes further to the low rate. \n\nComparing pays between companies was ridiculous in this video's context. Manitoba is the best provinces I used to live in. House expense is cheap, lots of beautiful landscapes in Manitoba. Unlike such as Toronto big cities etc. very expensive property cost, ugly human made concrete forest. The best way to work in the US while being a Canadian is by TN visa or status. 3 year limit but can be renewed indefinitely as long as an employer wants you in the US. So for anyone trying to apply for a job in the US from outside NA get a Canadian citizenship then go to US for work rather than dealing with H1B visa process. If you are wondering does TN visa cost you or employer a lot of money or hassle, the best answer is no but you can ask the employer to expedite the process by having them pay around $555 if you want the letter by mail otherwise its only $55 at the airport. Google TN visa and look at US gov. webpage, it tells you everything.
