Try this in Vancouver when you try to apply for Chinese or East Indian dominated business or stores... Racism goes both ways.

It’s amazing how so many people in this comment section can’t seem to understand this!! Just because you don’t see or deal with discrimination or racism doesn’t mean it’s not out here & happening every single day!!

Something that stuck out to me was that $1350 and $1360 in several common fonts will look similar, especially on a quick glance and in smaller sizes. It is entirely possible that the guy misread the number. I think it's telling that CBC decided it was subtle racism rather than giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. I know there's a lot of bad behavior documented here but that behavior isn't any better.

Do the jerks in the comment section not realize that they're pointing out how important it actually is to talk about this sort of thing? The anger and pushback this piece is getting is why discussions about subtler forms of racism need to be had.

I agree that racism exists in Canada in a subtle form. In my experience people would have more discrimination towards minority with foreign accents. I have heard from other people commenting immigrants 'this person has accent' and to me, it can be perceived negatively. Sometimes I feel I am treated differently because I have accent, especially at working environment. Few years ago I worked in school and my white boss put this on my yearly performance: Your 'emerging' English skills can have negative impact to children's language development. I didn't tell this to anyone but was very disappointed as we are a diversified country with so many immigrants, and this should not come out from an educator's mouth.

Those who are denying racism or pretending no racism exists are just part of the problem
2017-10-14 0
You shouldn't even include what whites have to say about racism, they never experience it and that is why don't care about it.
2017-10-12 0
just try these guys for job application or job interview ;). And smell the racism
2017-10-07 0
In 2006 I applied for a job in a different city in UK and because of my last name they invited me for an interview expecting a white person. When they saw me they mentioned that they I was a white person. I was shocked. And I turned the offer because I felt I will be experiencing racism if I take the job.

Racism is alive and well. Sadly :-/

The amount of people prosecuted by racism is so small that we would be better to deal with individual cases also it's not going away as long as people are different well always complain about something it's in our nature

I do not like racism and this is what bothers me about Canada and no one is doing anything to stop it.

Racism is everywhere, and Malcolm X was right in his early days Martin Luther was a dreamer
2017-09-05 0
I am a victim of racism because muslims dont allow me in the store or dont wanna serve me food etc. calling names and looking dirty. racism goes both ways...not just a black & white thing!!

8:30\n he walks around for 20 minutes just picking up things, they say ''do you want help.'' That's class A racism right there.

I grew up in Canada and now live in the southern US. There were so mild few and far between racist instances. In America, racism is ingrained. It is a daily battle. There was a strong institution of slavery, segregation, and Jim Crow laws. All I can tell people on this tape is to try and come living here!

I have seen lots of racism but it is usually Chinese vs Japanese, Jamaican vs Africans, Punjabi vs white, french, black, arab...Ismaili vs anyone else, Muslim vs anyone else. I have also seen a lot of racism vs philipinos and mexicans even though they are the friendliness.

I'm black Canadian... Of course I would never say racism doesn't exist in Canada... But the Canada that they are describing is foreign to me... Where as As soon as I cross the brother to the state I get racially profile... By the time I get to New York City I'll get stop 3 times on average... So... Again not sure which Canada they are describing...otd a different time now...

there trying to force there religion on you if you don`t like it the scream racism
2017-07-03 0
When we learn to look upon one another with compassion regardless of their race, religion or personal belief's and look instead at the heart of an individual, only then will we make strides to heal and to connect one another across Canada and the world. There's an overwhelming racism borne of intolerance for one another and intolerance is borne in my opinion often of fear. When we don't understand someone, we do tend to make up something to line the box that we force someone to live from but would never accept the same for ourselves. If you see someone being berated, being treated differently then you yourself would accept, you owe it to yourself and to the one being hurt to stand up and to intervene. When attitudes change, people change. Blessing's.

Race Space and the Law by Razack .Colour coded .A legal history of racism in Canada those two books had the whole story of slavery and racism in Canada . For those who are racist ,they should know their great great grandparents were refugees in Canada. The Native Canadians, opened their door doors and did not treat them with negativity. Racism is wrong.Racist are evil.

I've traveled all over the world and have noticed racism exists in all races and nationalities. Most racism occurs because people are in fear and loathing of each other. The reason is simply because we're comfortable among our own kind and when confronted or meeting someone different than we are we behave differently around them. Most often giving way to our prejudices and stereotypes. Instead of treating each other as human beings and individuals, we give in to racism.

In Victoria you had to pull teeth to get evidence of racism, and you base your proof on a $10 difference in a rent rate given by two different sales people?? Ha ha ha! Hilarious!! You guys are pathetic. It must be tough to keep your job at CBC.

Sadly racism is in every country in the world, if people look different, I guess some of us assume their values are different
2017-04-10 0
This only proves that mixing races in countries should never be done it will never work. It is not racism it is tribalism and it is natural and normal and you cannot change it now matter how many laws they make or how the media tries to make it look. People are not stupid.

Many levels of Racism Sad .Racism for whites is high i non white Countries.
2017-03-31 0
How about being an Indigenous Negroid Human of Planet Earth, just because you moved here or there doesn't change the way how the Caucasian Tribal Families, who enjoy being evil for the most, will not still HATE your guts UNJUSTLY.\n\nThe Problem is not a place stolen from the first founding NEGROID TRIBES OF Israel called Canada Original Called New Found Canaan (Arsarath) the problem is the soul orientation of the Caucasian Tribes who are still practicing santa-satanic Luciferian Racism 7 deadly Sins

It's not racism, it's incompatibility. There's a difference.
2017-03-15 0
Considering our biggest taxpayer funded TV station did a special episode on it, I think we could do a lot worse as a whole when it comes to racism.
2017-03-12 0
If you wear that thing which covers your face, ofc you will face racism.

this is racism?
2017-03-08 0
this is a great show. I live in the NW in the USA and I have been to Canada a few times. I never realized how much racism was in Canada. My ignorance is bliss I guess, but it's still better than the racism here in the States.

@18:38 -A white man says minorities have to tolerate racism. wow. i guess he has alot of experience with racism being a white male.

Recently I had a very uncomfortable time shopping for a sofa. I shopped for a couple weeks, looking around the many furniture stores in my neighbourhood. I thought I was maybe crazy but after a couple trips back to a few of the same stores I could tell a few of the stores didn't want to deal with me because of my skin colour. I hate racism and intolerance.
2017-01-08 0
I love how they only focus on the White on Black/Native racism here, and not all the other forms of racism I've seen or experienced. Typical, racism is racism if you want to address it then address it in all forms.

Every year restaurants go bankrupt, but Althea Morris is having to close her doors because of racism. It makes me sick to hear this nonsense. Black people can't fail. If they do it has nothing to do with the quality or variety of their food, it's solely because of the colour of their skin. C'mon get serious.

Generations of inbreeding and female suppression brings dumb asses like this to mankind.  Take a good look at there countries and tell me I'm a racist, no I want to save western culture which is anti racism.  So take your head out of your leftist butts and lets get on the cleanup.  Send them packing.
2016-12-20 0
this doesn't prove racism at all there 100s of variables that could lead to those responses in that test and 1 of them is racism

Thanks CBC for allowing Asha Tomlinson to work on this video. This is for all Canadians, but most for Black Canadians in Eastern Canada. Cities like Edmonton in particular should be highlighted in this type of videos for their stand on racism. Most cities in Canada are becoming more progressive on racial issues, but Edmonton remains a frightening place for Black people. My message to Blacks in Western Canada is that nothing will change without a challenge. We must stop gossiping about how we are treated and let expose this disease.

Don't wear the haj jab because racism is a fact of life. Terrorism in the name of religion isn't going to end soon so don't be a fool and make yourself a target.

This was quite interesting to me bc being a Black Man here in the states... I would have ever in a million & one yrs. thought racism or slavery existed in Canada. I am a person who LOVES learning new things on a daily even now at 28. I don't know all thats around me so coming across documentary's like this is Awesome... ?? #2ThumbsUp.

Unlike Americans, Canadians don't want to acknowledge that racism exists in Canada. Just Look at the comments, many deny racism or think that this program is garbage. This is sick.
2016-10-20 2
White people hate to admit that racism happens because they do not want guilt projected onto them.
2016-10-10 0
I've done a few of those implicit tests. \n\nBesides a few of them having grammar and spelling issues (wow, Harvard?) it seems more than a few of them are testing more than one thing at a time, or from more than one angle. There's no way to see exactly what the results mean.\n\n(Note: most of them tell me I've got very slim to no implicit racism in my results, so I'm not just arguing out of shame or upset, I'm stating the above out of an understanding of proper vs improper testing practices)

I'm not racism , but I wish muslims would fuck off back to Islam . they don't deserve to be in Canada or south america
2016-09-25 5
Even if racism was real, what does it matter? You want to lobotomize racists?
2016-09-22 0
But.. but white people tell me all the time that racism doesent exist. No way this is true.

Most the retail places i am not sure.. and I am not going to say that racism doesn't happen in these stores because i don't know for certain.. but i am going to post something to think about.. If their best buy is like the best buy where I live.. I knew people who worked best buy.. and certain floor reps get paid at least in part via commission.. or at least they use to.. typically the ones that approach you are the ones working to make sales.. they will usually only do so in certain areas though.. such as Computer area, home entertainment area, appliance area, phone area, POSSIBLY game area particularly if they notice you looking at the consoles, and occasionally I get approached when i am looking at personal entertainment stuffs such as the decent headphone and ipod/mp3 player area... If you stick to CDs, movies and stuff that you can just grab .. typically they wont bother you much.. unless you linger there too long.. then a floor rep might think you might need help looking at something.. In my experience they are just overly hover because they have to be.. but unless you are looking at something that is a focus of sales or a board employee finds you .. you almost have to hunt down reps to help you with something..
