If an African professional from Nigeria regrets coming to Canada you that you've come to frozen outhouse that simply won't give you the opportunity to make your dreams come true. European immigrants that come to Canada end up going back home because the cost of living will overwhelm your income and maintain you in poverty. Only immigrants from the most destitute countries want to remain, but once too many of them congregate in a place the social environment becomes just the same as the place they come from. I could never move back to Toronto, sad to say. Homelessness here in Montreal has gone up 44% since 2018. Something is definitely wrong. Our quality of life is diminishing. Canada is unaffordable. Mental health issues and crime on are the rise. I notice gun violence has increased here. The pitfalls of capitalism and a market economy where money and profits come before people.

I left the city 20 years ago at the beginning of it's downfall. and have no desire to ever return. it was relatively safe back then, as long as you stayed in areas with people around you could walk home downtown late at night. that has totally changed. For me, unlike NYC or Montreal the city doesn't offer enough to offset the crime!

Moved to the east coast 3 years ago because of Covid and starting to see the decay beginning to form in Toronto, came back last year to visit, what a disappointment this ciry has become! Turns out to be the best decision I have ever made!

I just need to mention this, and I mean no disrespect to my Nigerian brothers and sisters: Ghanaian, Nigerian and Zimbabwean people have a hard time telling the truth about their home countries. I regularly have calls with friends who moved back to Nigeria, and they are literally weeping. Life sucks there for most people. Why not just tell the truth? No shame in it at all.
