Great information! The only thing I would add is the cost of living. Our wages may seem high to people from other countries, even after taxes and deductions, but the cost of living in cities such as Vancouver and Toronto is very high while other cities may pay similar and be considerably cheaper leaving you width more disposable income. Of course, not all cities in Canada have the same to offer in terms of weather and amenities such as beaches.

You’ve been in an English speaking country for awhile. So why do you need to communicate via Spanish? You should’ve learned the language by now. what many call racism is not racism but more accurately tribalism. people always will trust their own rather than the stranger. I make it a habit that if I see someone has dropped something accidentally or I see someone struggling with something I always try to help no matter who it is it's just my nature I also smile at anyone I pass but I'm sorry there has been a lot of times I've done one of these things for a Muslim woman or man and 9 times out of ten I never get a thank you or a smile or anything in return in fact I've had nasty looks some times just for being polite and kind there are the very rare exceptions but generally I get nastiness in return I'm not going to stop doing these things cause I enjoy making others happy even if I sometimes get a negative response but these people don't make it easy to like them when they so often look down on us

I worked for Wal-Mart for 16yrs and they are full of sh.t! They are races that 0 tolerance crap is so they don't get more lawsuits than they can handle. While with Canada you have fixed prices, which actually encourages stagnantion in development as anything that streamlines the hospital making it more efficient hurst the hospitals next year of available funding.. while being hurt in the USA can really set the individual back.\nIn Canada you get an overall lower quality of care as the talented doctors end up moving to the states where they can get paid what they are worth not stuck on a fixed income. And after all that rare illnesses in canada as stated don't have any coverage meaning that any one hit with hit rare illness finds out the hard way they can either pay for life saving medication or well pass on.. as most Canadian are taxed to high to have any substantial savings available for such an emergency as they fall into the trap that the government has me covered. \n\nSo each system has its positives and negatives and as far as I'm concerned it's not talked about enough honestly up hear.\n\nIf you have been to the dentist in canada thats basically the usa system, though the prices are fixed in some areas so some services won't be available.. as they don't update the payment schedule often enough so certain procedures pay well, other well can actually cost the dentist out of pocket. \nTherefore in some areas you can't get certain procedures done at all the dentist will refuse.

I'm of Scottish/Irish descent and few people are whiter than I am plus I have freckles and auburn hair. I had just moved to Orlando and dropped off several prescriptions to an Eckerd's drugstore. Rather than leaving and returning 30 to 45 minutes later decided to look around and see the store layout for future reference. I wasn't wearing a coat and I never opened my purse. I got my prescriptions and left the store. An alarm beeped and the manager came outside, grabbed my arm and yanked me back into the store. A security guard watched as I was taken into a little office, had my purse contents dumped on the floor and was told I must have stolen something. I pointed out the teenagers who were blatantly stuffing things in cargo pants pockets. They ignored them. After pawing through my things I was told I could put the stuff back in my purse. I demanded the manager pick up everything and put it on his desk and then I'd put it in my purse. As I left the alarm rang again. We realized the Stone Mountain metal label on the front of my purse set off the alarm. He never apologized. I called the corporate office and was told he'd get a reprimand. I could have charged him with assault. Grabbing me and forcing me into his store and office against my will violated FL laws. I never set foot in that store again and warned everyone I met not to. It may have been a coincidence but the store was shut down within 6 months. Others of different races said that manager had harassed them, too.

People are just overreacting about this, there are way worse crimes and fraud being committed right now in Canada. He’s just bringing rich people to Canada, that means more money is coming in to the country and no citizen is being hurt or affected in the process. These rich people are actually adding value$$ to the nation, not subtracting. They’re not getting benefits and a bunch other free things “benefits” the poor want, instead they’re injecting capital into the market.

I get it I really do, I agree they may come across it MORE, but we ALL get treated that way regardless of color. I’m a white young female and have been followed around stores, been treated more rude than others around me that are maybe dressed nicer than me or look like they have more money, I’ve had different treatment than my peers, it completely just depends on the people we come across, and when we come across them, ect that determine all of it. But I can assure you I have went through the same things as any other color, maybe not as often but it does happen. My only question about these tests, is how large were the sample pools? And one other thing to note, is that compared to almost every other nation on earth, Canada has next to no racism (i believe we are actually the best on earth when it comes to that). I'm white and have traveled to Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and South America, and have experienced racism in every one of those continents. By a large portion of the people I interacted with. I also find that most racism that I have seen or experienced stems from 2 places. One culture and the second a lack of experience in interacting with other races.

I don't think Canada ever lied. Unlike the USA Canada does not play around. We welcome legal immigrants and bona fide refugees. Unfortunately there is a lot of greyness in what it means to be a bona fide refugee. Perhaps too many people think it means one thing. \n.\nMy heart goes out to all these foreigners wanting to make a life here in Canada - after all I am one of them. Okay. A lot of people here have no clue how the immigration system works both in the US and in Canada. “He should just have come here legally”. Well, most of the time a legal path to emigrating to the US/Canada just does not exist, and its getting more and more impossible to be granted asylum. In the US you can’t just apply for a work visa, you can’t just apply for a green card. You got to be eligible to apply for it. For a work visa you need a job offer first, you need proof of income and most of the time the employer will have to prove they couldn’t find an American to take the position. To get a green card you either have to get married to an American, invest at least $500,000 or try applying for asylum (which is almost impossible to get nowadays). ALSO to apply for asylum you need to be either inside the US or at a US port of entry. Try to be less “patriotic” and more empathetic. People flee their countries because of war, violence, cartels, gangs, terrorism, etc. They are desperate and want to protect their families and have a better life. If you were in their shoes and staying in your home country put your family in great harm you would have done the same thing. People need to stop judging, stop being selfish and start leading with empathy.

Justin Trudeau has the nerve to talk down to the US about not letting in immigrants and refugees and then does the exact same thing. Canada also sees way less than 1% of the people trying to get into the US. Typical progressives.

Shoppers Drug Mart employees are the absolute worst in my experience for racial profiling. They opened a new store so had hardly any customers, I was shopping for painkillers where there are numerous drug types, brands, strengths (mg), styles (capsules, gel cap, tablets), amounts and prices - all in small writing which takes quite a bit of time to disseminate and decide upon especially when your eyesight is poor as mine is. After a while I looked up and noticed a security guard standing in the aisle watching me. I was shocked and confronted him, asking if he was watching me, to which he quickly denied and left. Was so disturbed I quickly left the store without buying anything and refused to return to that location. Another time I was shopping for an eyebrow pencil where the colour name was printed again in small letters so was spending time to find the one I wanted amongst all the different browns. After I had chosen and started to walk past their counter, their staff member stood with her arms folded shaking her head. This was very alarming as I had shopped in that store since it had opened! So after effectively being accused of shoplifting a $3 eyebrow pencil for no reason other than being black, at the cash line, a white guy sprints out the door carrying a $50 box of diapers! Whatever they are selling at Shoppers or anywhere else is not worth my freedom. They have no right to profile me when it is never going to be me stealing. There are many, many black people who just do not do those kinds of things. We are not all criminals. I have worked in lots of stores and the majority of people stealing are the majority of people in Canada - the white people. Stop living on stereotypes, Shoppers Drug Mart and don't pooh-pooh people's experiences when they call and complain!

Canada is full of racism and that’s a fact. There is not much of the difference with the States either. Only difference is that Canada’s racism comes in the form institutional and systemic racism. The states have a way bigger platform than Canada so their situations regarding racism will be covered more than Canada’s and also Canada hides behind the “it’s such a diverse country” statement to diverge from the issue of racism. Ask yourself this- Which country do you see a wider diverse representation of, concerning the people in power? In Toronto we just had our first black police chief(which was a big thing here) a few years back while in the States they’ve been having people of colour and many minorities in power. Representation of different ethnic backgrounds is an issue here but nevertheless the states still have a long way to go with racism. I love Canada so much but there is absolutely racism that this country will not bother to even acknowledge

It seems that people conflate individual acts and experiences of racism with systemic racism. If the police stop and question me because I match a description - that's not racism, that's just inconvenient. Now if the officer said - hey according to city by-law blah blah blah, you're under arrest for having blue eyes *that* is systemic. There is a written on the books law treats me different from others. Systemic racism and flawed personal bias are not the same thing. The former does not exist in its literal form and (i'm very sorry kids) the latter will never go away completely.

I’ve lived on both sides of the border (New York and Ottawa/Gatineau). I am white. And I’ve been pulled over on both sides wile I was driving and wile a black person was driving. I’ve seen scary difference between the interactions with the police. Though the US cops are a little more harsh to the black people the Canadians ones weren’t much better. If you deny that is happening in Canada your wrong. If you deny it’s happening in the US your wrong. It happens no matter what side of that imaginary line on. Be the change you wanna see. If your white use your privilege to promote change. And for everyone, go to protest (safety there is still a pandemic going on), sign petitions, vote and get involved with government. Both sides of the border have the chance to make things right, act now!
