I’m with my fellow Canadians, I’ll visit the US (although even then, it’s beginning to look less and less ideal) but over my dead body would I live there. \nThe fact you have become desensitized and don’t discuss school shootings is baffling. 4 or 5 years ago, there was a shooting where I live in Canada. The whole city was on lock down. I believe one elderly woman died, and 3 were injured. The person was caught, arrested, and is rotting away in jail. It hasn’t happened since. People still remember it. My little sister and I were scared, so we hid in my bedrooms closet. (It was on the second floor, and there was no way anybody could break in and get up there easily.)\n\nHealthcare is a huge issue. My family has a long line of health issues, and with that in mind, the risk is just to obscene.\n\nI am a woman. The fact that laws are being stripped away from us by old white men who have no idea what it is like to be a woman in the states is horrifying. \n\nGun culture. It’s near-on impossible or at least it’s incredibly difficult to get guns here. Owning guns isn’t respected. When people die from being shot, it’s remembered and spoken about, even years later. At least to me, it seems you care more for your Guns and the rights to own and use them, then Women who want to have bodily autonomy.\n\nYour political issues. I don’t even know what to say at this point beyond. The entire senate is rich old straight white men who like to make laws about groups they aren’t part of, and strip laws away from others. You basically have two polar opposite sides of the political spectrum and that alone, divides people so deep they can’t even be in the same room for more then 10 seconds.\n\n\nI’m Part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Enough said. \n\nI’m well aware that not everyone in the US is like this. But in my eyes, that’s more then enough to deter me. I’m glad you decided to take a look at this, and see our reactions to the questions. And I’m glad you didn’t take offence to the harsh or bitter answers. Sure Canada isn’t perfect, but it’s better in enough ways to keep me much preferring staying here.

I mean the reasons listed are already reason enough, but additional reasons:\n\n- our labour laws tend to be superior to the majority of states (seriously, Wisconsin has no workers rights, maternity leave is barely a thing in most states let alone parental leave)\n-social security net in the event of losing a job (during the start of the pandemic, even though we did have to suddenly change the system, the fact that we already had a safety net to begin with was a huge relief to many)\n- the racism, while still obviously present, is significantly lower (experienced more racism in Edmonton than I do in a tiny town in rural Quebec). This before even beginning to consider how the police forces in the USA would be more likely to target someone like me whether I am guilty or not (have personally had nothing but good experiences with the police anywhere I have lived personally).\n\nThe only things that have ever tempted me in particular have been the lower housing costs, but… that’s clearly only the immediate monetary cost, and for me has never even come close to making up for the other significantly more important things that I would have to deal with / be concerned over.

On the gun issue, I'm not sure that american people really understand the second Amendment. With a 7B $ Armed forces budget and the fact that Indepedance war againts Britain is over for more than 200 years there is no need anymore for the 2nd Amendment. In Canada, we don't have any equivalent article in our Constitution and I'm very happy about it. Some people should meditate on the subject.

There was a time I would have. My father and Grandfather grew up in New York city as children and spoke highly of the States. Since 2016 I would seriously not consider living there. The gun violence that occurs their has gotten to the point that it has to be especially eggregious before it makes the news. The cavalier attitude towards guns and gun saftey is disturbing even from your politicians. it would be a recipe for loosing your privalege to own a firearm in Canada if you did what many of us see americans do with their guns. Open carry. Not allowed. Concealed carry. Not allowed. There are courses you need to take and pass on firearm saftey and gun use here, before you are given the privaledge of owning a firearm. Those firearms need to be stored properly or carried in cases at all times when not in use \n\nThat being said I have done those courses and I own guns. Rifles to be precise and a shot gun I use for hunting food. Pistols are not easy to get here and you can only use them on a range. The only people legally carrying pistols in public are the police.\n\nHealthcare is fine if you are young and healthy, with a job. If i showed up at 53 with a handfull of pre-existing conditions, I would be in bad shape.\n\nYour record on lgbtq+ and a woman's right to bodily autonomy is back slipping to the 1950's. Just to touch briefly on the guns subject. Canada has quite a lot of guns relatively. Other than the United States, Canada has the highest guns per capita in the OECD. However, gun licensing, regulation and distribution along with various policies and cultural dynamics help in reducing mass shootings and school shootings.\nIn fact , Canada has only ever seen about a dozen school shootings in the last 50 years. Just to put that into perspective if a Canadian student were to attend an American school for a couple months, they are more likely to have a school shooting in those couple months than their entire K-12 education in Canada. I think that's why a lot of Canadians were mentioning their childs safety.

So I work for a us company. I have for 5 years. in my industry, tech, pay scale is a lot more positive in the states than Canada. I have been offered several times, to have my move paid for, visas and all that jazz, and I still haven't made the jump. \n\nMy salary is also comfortable enough to afford health care, and I still haven't moved. I don't think Americans realize how poor their insurance is. Also have health issues in general.\n\nI also participate in sports that cause injuries (notice I implied I will definitely get injured). I would not want to have American coverage, in fact how do Americans financially justify casual sport activity.\n\nI won't go into political differences. It's extremely nuanced and an extremely interesting conversation. I don't like the Dems very much and the repubs are even worse. \n\nAll of this said it's always on my mind. Its a consideration but seems unlikely. Arizona/Utah/Colorado are my jam. Would love to be there, if it was Canada.

I've noticed that the reason why foreigners wouldn't want to move to the US really just boils down to one word – politics.\n\nI feel like many Canadians would be surprised by the fact that most Americans are actually _in support_ of common-sense gun legislation and free universal healthcare. \n\nAmericans and Canadians want many of the same things – the difference is that Canada doesn't have a poorly structured government that grants way too much power to horrible people so they can do horrible things to their country.

There have been 386 school shootings since Columbine. As of May 30th 2023 there have been 263 mass shootings. These facts alone would make me not want to move to the U.S.

First time that I watched your channel - and I commend your candor and your openness. I lived in Canada in the Niagara peninsula and the Greater Toronto Area from 1953 to 1989. Then in 1990, I had a job opportunity to work for a Michigan base company that allowed me much global business travel. I could have moved to Michigan with my wife and two sons however I decided that my residence would still be in Canada on the Windsor side of the Detroit river. I commute every working day across the border and I am glad that I did in fact remain a resident of Canada. I do have a green card still to this day in 2023 as I continue to work for the same company. I can tell you that the for the first few months in 1990, every time that I would cross the border to go back home, I felt a sense of ease and contentment to be back in Canada. I do like the USA but I prefer living in Canada.

After having watched a few seasons of a certain home improvement TV show that happens in the city of Laurel, Mississippi, I for myself would gladly move there IF I could have a decent job. However, my wife who doesn't speak english wouldn't leave her dear Québec. Only thing that might hold my 17 y.o. son is the fact that his girlfriend propably couldn't/wouldn't want to move too. Hi Tyler. I think that when you say you've lived mainly in small towns and that most people are pleasant may stem from the fact that you're a white male. Many if not most small towns in America suffer from a lack of cultural diversity. It's easy for them to be kind and pleasant when they hardly ever get confronted by anyone outside their cultural norms. How accepting would they be if a bunch of families from other cultures would start moving into their little piece of paradise? Would they remain as pleasant and friendly? That's where the real test would be. Mind you, I'm not sure it would be so different here in Canada if you look at more remote villages.

I think the fact that there are more guns than there are people in the USA would not entice me to live there.

I think a big part of the feelings most have about not moving to the US, apart from the reasons they've been able to quantify, are the fact that we see the obvious problems not being fixed. In many other countries health care, gun control, etc may not be perfect, but change and improvements are made. In the US, we see any efforts shot down time and time again because the policians seem to be owned by corporations/lobbyists, and big business likes things as they are. This significantly erodes confidence in the US government's ability to address other crises that will come up.

No, I wouldn’t. I just moved from Vancouver to London, uk. Lots of people asked why I didn’t move to New York. Main reason is health care. I’m a self employed hairstylist and no one is providing health care for me. Second is gun violence in general, mass shootings are a big issue, just because it hasn’t happened in your small city, doesn’t mean it won’t. Mass shootings are just the most extreme version of gun violence. I don’t want the people walking down the street next to me to possibly be carrying a gun on them. That is truly terrifying to me. Third is that politics are so extreme and so prevalent. Lastly the fact that women’s rights are being taken away. I absolutely cannot support a country with very little benefits and aid for those who cannot afford to have a child, that then makes them have a child. That’s the briefest way I can explain my feelings, I could go on and on, but I’ll leave it at that. \n\nThe only benefit I see in moving to the us from Canada is for certain opportunities, and those come in big cities, so there’s absolutely no point in moving to then live in a small city. \n\nI appreciate that you’re being introspective as you go through the video. No way. One thing people failed to mention is how often citizen's voting rights are suppressed. The whole system is politicized, gerrymandering is real. \n\nNot to mention the politics in the judicial system that extends all the way to the Supreme Court. The fact that key instigators of the Jan 6th failed coup are still walking free and one is even able to run for president is extremely disturbing. \n\nAs much as I hate the current government here and know how little my region's votes count I have at the least some comfort knowing we have an impartial overseer of the election process. \n\nDown south they are one election away from a 1984 situation. Sorry but it's actually NOT good health care by comparison to other countries including Canada. International studies and comparisons place the U.S. near the bottom in fact. Many countries, including Canada, have longer life expectancies, lower infant mortality and equal to or better outcomes across many diseases. America also has the most expensive health care in the developed world with millions not covered at all. I went to the Atlanta suburbs a few years ago for corporate training (I was working in Canada for a US based company). There were people from all around North America there, who did not know each other before meeting there. What shocked me the most, even more than the constant subtext racism between people, in the news, everywhere basically, more than the senseless political debates where people take for one side just because, no matter the truth and lies, the arguments or even the crimes comitted by one side or the other, is the fact that 2 americans, never having met before, were talking about their prefered gun makes and ammunition types literally 5 minutes after having met the first time. THAT is unhealthy! THAT is scary! I just went with the flow and accepted it, and I kept noticing it for the 2 weeks I was there. In Canada, we talk about the weather to break the ice with strangers. In the states, you talk about guns. That is what we call gun culture and that, more than anything else, is why I'll never live in the US.\nOh, and just to make it worse, when I tried to explain why we did not feel like we had to have guns on our person in Canada, not a single American I talked to could ever begin to understand. I was a dual US/Canadian citizen since birth (born in the US to parents of mixed citizenship) and have lived in Canada since 1982.\nI renounced my US citizenship a few months ago to be 100% Canadian. I still think the US is a great nation in many regards, but it is also *so* deeply messed up. The fact that the US's response to SCHOOL CHILDREN being shot to death in school was literally to do NOTHING was what made me decide to cut ties officially and formally.\nTo put an outdated, irrelevant, vaguely worded, and actually harmful constitutional amendment ahead of the lives of children is nothing short of evil.

As a Canadian who lived in the US (and all over the US) for over five years, I just wanted to comment on this video. \n\nIn your video, you seem to be shocked with Canadians reactions to school shootings and health care in the US. Much like Americans paint all of Canada with one brush, Canadians do the same. We watch American news channels more than Canadian news channels, and we read news from American sources more than Canadian sources. American news really is designed to scare people, and Canadians are easily scared! Not all of us consume only American news sources, but most of us do, and that’s just simply based on the fact that Google, Facebook, CNN, ABC, etc. are American companies. Yes of course there are safe communities and cities in the US, and yes of course if you have a good job you probably don’t have to worry much about health care.\n\nDuring my time in the US, I lived in Miami, Chicago and Seattle. I didn’t like Miami. It’s kind of another world down there. Seattle was ok. Chicago though… I absolutely loved living there. And if given the opportunity, that is where I would live for the rest of my life. People will say “Chicago! It’s so violent and problems blah blah”, but like you said, there are areas, even in big cities, that are super safe and fun to live in. \n\nI live in Toronto now, and I wouldn’t hesitate to move back to Chicago if given the opportunity. The food scene, the music scene, the sports scene, and the unbelievably friendly people. Such a great town.\n\nAnyway, love the videos. Keep it up!

The very fact that the US, in your experience, is NOT talking about children's safety in school IS the problem

Even if you are in a place that hasn’t had a shooting in the local school, seems like locking doors and metal detectors and police in the school are everywhere because of it. That just implies that it’s something to be afraid of. Just thinking about those “security measures” makes American schools sound like prisons. Add on that any time there is a shooting that the problem is “the door wasn’t locked”, or “the cop wasn’t fast enough” instead of facing the facts that your gun laws are ridiculous… it’s amazing Americans DON’T fear for their kids lives…

As a quebecoise, canadian french, I think we're still far from all problems in the USA. But we shouldn't forget that there are 300 millions more american people than us, canadians. The more we'll grow as population, the more problems of all kinds will follow. So no, i would never move to USA, it's a fact, but I think it's a little unfair to compare both countries. Plus, Canada tends to be more and more influenced by USA and their politics... And we're no safe anywhere in the world. There are not a lot of them, yet, but still, we've got also few mass violence shootings increasing for more than 10 years now. It exists here too. Nothing happens in a small village because we don't expect it to happen most of the times. But as beautiful as Canada may look, I can tell you it will never be the same again. Why sidestep the war on women’s reproductive rights? The folks you quoted in the video have this opinion which is as valid as anything you read aloud. The fact is that this is actually happening in the United States, under penalty of law. It is not pro life, it is however the antithesis of the freedom Americans pride themselves for. Pro life means responsible gun control, universal health care for all, child care for working families and an education that promotes the truth in history and learning critical thinking skills so students can grow up to be rational, caring human beings.

No way would I want to live down there. Dat place is crazy, dirty, and dangerous. Half the country hates everyone else, or so it seems. Given that your crazies have such easy access to guns, I think it is one of the last north western countries I would live in. \nAlso, the fact that the number one cause of personal bankruptcies in The US, is medical expenses. It is a country where a couple of stitches can cost you a thousand bucks and where insurance companies decide what treatments are available to you.\nI think it would be a terrible place to live, especially with a family.
