Any trip outside the United States will tell you about how few people would want to move to the US if they could live in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, or Europe instead. Probably a whole lot of other places, too. The United States has too many of its citizens living in fear. That’s a culture whose very admirable democratic and social goals are subverted by worshipping aggression and religious extremism, the very things they say they were fighting against in the Middle East and Afghanistan. I know that many Americans feel that way about their country and their fellow citizens but feel powerless to change it and that the plutocracy (which is largely in day-to-day control) seems to block any progress towards a better way of living.

We need the American immigration system in Canada. We need to set a quota on how many people from a given country can receive a green card. All you see now in the GTA and Vancouver are Indians. Bringing all these different cultures together… but if too many from one country show up, they’ll make a community too large that they don’t need to melt with the population. Allowing 300,000 Indians to get green cards every year and only 1,000 Norwegians would lead to the Norwegians merging well with the country, while the Indians would all move to one or two cities and make entire sections of the cities like small versions of their own country. Which is the last thing we want. Once an immigrant community gets enough power to be a voting block, things are scary, but once it has enough power that they start getting their own representatives and passing laws for the rest of us? Laws the look like laws they had back in their own countries… that led them to run from their countries in the first place? It’s a concern. We want people to adapt to the USA and not try to adapt the USA to them. Over time, the US does change due to the growing voting blocs. But that’s after generations of those immigrant populations getting larger, and their children being born and raised in the country they’ve adapted to. When I see a protest of Muslim immigrants burning pride flags, or Chinese and Spanish-speaking Hispanic immigrants who never bothered to learn English, I see problems with our immigration system. But the kids of the Arab immigrants will be more tolerant, and the Hispanic kids will have grown up in American schools. Most Chinese-American kids might speak some Chinese at home with their parents, but they’re worse at it, and their first language is English. It takes second Generation immigrants to really start meshing with America. But if entire school districts are all Indian, and every store, restaurant, and business in a whole town is Indian, then those kids won’t adapt to America. They won’t get bits of their home culture from their time at home and with their neighbors, while also getting bits of American culture from their classmates and other people around them. Nope. They’ll only be exposed to the first Generation who completely took over the area- IF, we allowed for unfettered immigration from the largest countries. It’s a fact that immigrant communities like to stick together. But if not enough people are in that community that you need to reach out to others around you, it helps expose you to the rest of America… Anyway! There are a ton of shows that indirectly show this phenomena. Fresh Off the Boat. The Sopranos. Even Brooklyn 99. We see as traditional and hard-to-adapt parents have to deal with kids in the next generation who are more American, don’t follow the same customs and traditions as their parents, and overall just left more of their old culture behind. No one is asking that immigrants abandon their cultural ties, but if you come to America, there are things that people need to change and accept if they’re going to live here.

I have mixed feelings about this video. This video does a good job outlining the immigration process but it does not highlight any of the negative consequences of immigration that Canada is experiencing. One of the main reasons why cost of living is so high in Toronto and Vancouver is precisely because we have so many immigrants coming in without enough housing supply. This is by design because politicians and the upper class have a vested interest in keeping real estate prices high because so much of their net worth is tied up in the housing market.\n\nAnother negative is that employers hire immigrants working low skilled jobs and pay them less than Canadians because the immigrants are willing to be taken advantage of since they're just happy to have a job in Canada which pays better than their country. \n\nAnother myth that gets repeated is that Canadian takes immigrants out of compassion and unfortunately a lot of Canadians believe this. It was never about compassion, it's about bringing more people to 1) pay taxes to support our social welfare as Canadian birth rates decline and boomers retire, 2) keep housing costs high and 3) pay immigrants lower wages for the same work because immigrants are fine being exploited since they have a job in a first world country.\n\nAnother problem is the cultural shift. In the most immigrant-dense regions you'll find that many immigrants themselves surprisingly don't want more immigrants coming to Canada because they see these negative consequences. The people who are most pro-immigration have no problem cramming 8+ people in a basement and exploiting their labour because they make enough money to live in communities that immigrants can't afford, and so they don't have to deal with the cultural shift that's taking place. This is NOT the fault of immigrants, but rather the politicians who put economic growth over quality of life. Over HALF the people in the GTA weren't born in Canada, so they didn't go through our school system and have no connection to our culture. Canada is unfortunately going to become very racist over the next 10-20 years as Canadians start feeling like outsiders in their own country. It's somehow considered racists to criticize the effect of multiculturalism on social unity, yet the cultures we accept in Canada only became distinct cultures because of monoculturalism.

Believe me... we don't want more. Our social systems are buckling at the seams. My country is fucked.

I resent that characterization that the per-country cap is “discriminatory.” Yes, this system is broken, and it is stupid that we educate a foreigner and then lose their talent or force them to stay without a legal status. But the purpose of the system is to promote diversity. Norway and India have the same number of green cards available to their respective nationals because the U.S. wants all countries equally represented.

This is something that could really help my industry if that 65,000 was raised. Everybody knows aviation is a tight industry, and with a massive labor shortage. The flight school I attend is half immigrants, mostly Japanese and Korean with a moderate minority of Europeans and Africans. The Asian students are for the most part wanting to stay in the US, despite not coming from poor nations. The opportunity for a pilot here is leagues above anywhere else bar Europe, but most will likely not even be able to maintain a work visa, let alone a green card. This also means (as pointed out) that leaving the country is hard, and they would only be allowed to fly domestic flights within the country (no flying to Canada). The issues that these highly qualified pilots could solve by being allowed to work in the US airline industry are inconceivable.\n\nIt took my mum (I was born British-American) took 9 years to become a US citizen, I was there for her first swearing in, and the UK is America’s closest ally. Imagine how difficult it is for immigrants not of such nationality.

It's inappropriate for Americans to be denied the ability to select which countries we want our immigrant population from. The lottery program favors nations that are undesirable to live in, as more of them apply.

I want to see Tyler do a cross country trip visiting Canada. Doing certain activities like Calgary Stampede, Saskatchewan Craven Jamboree, and other festivals and events. At 65, I have managed to visit 35 of the US states. Each time I returned to Canada, I got down on my hands & knees to kiss the ground of this country. I felt instant stress relief as soon as I did return safely. These days, I never want to step foot there again. To make life more interesting, I have a brother in Chicago. There’s an oxymoron. He is a trucker that likes Nascar, has no children of his own & married a lovely American girl who already had children (now grown). He sees the variations between counties - he stays for the $$. He comes home for huge doses of Canada & family.

This is highly biased just because they have moved to Canada doesn’t necessarily mean that Australia is any less .Both are DEVELOPED nations to be very precise .Australia has the highest wedge rates and yes as compared it’s hard to get into Australia than Canada because Australia is more into skilled workers it’s twice the size of India with only 2.5 cr of population and they manage their population and jobs at their best which is commendable and the same is with Canada as well .Every country has their own norms and have their pros and cons just because one couple has faced some issue with Australia doesn’t necessarily mean all the people have faced the same thing again it depends on the field you are working at . Covid has changed perspective and situations of every country one more Point Australia has never entered recession in 4 decades that’s a great point to consider . There is nothing wrong if these developed nations having strict barriers to consider people from outside as they want to manage things at their best be it for their own or international people living their which is the best thing any country can do for themselves and most importantly what people need to understand if they are from developing nations is that any developed country will be difficult be it CANDA ,AUSTRALIA etc nothing comes easy so to anyone getting little inclined towards any country I will highly recommend to have an intensive research on this as moving to any developed nations is not easy people have different mindset and perception you can decide what is best for you .?

I believe even now the Kuwait govt. is not issuing new visas to Pakistanis.\nHe also told me that whenever they want to go to Karachi(as his father works in a govt. Hospital in Kuwait) and once they reach Karachi,their House will be like bhoot bungalow. Lived in Canada while working in the US for almost 20 years. Sadly although I had many friends I was often shocked by the attitudes of my colleagues. They almost all looked at other countries as inferior. Racism is absolutely a thing .There was no curiosity about other cultures. I knew people that died because of their hesitation to seek health care. The school shootings, although maybe they don’t happen ‘all’ the time there seems to be no desire to fix that. The US is going the wrong way regarding voting rights. My town actually sends out extra busses if you need a ride to vote. The support of the LGBTQ community and women’s rights are also problematic. US is good if you want to get yours but I personally don’t want to take two, when others aren’t even getting one. I am happily no longer working in the states.

The truth is that medical and other costs are exorbitant in Canada . Also medical facilities in India are very advanced now. However the most important factor is that there is no country on the planet like India. And now with a modern booming India who would want to leave its shores. Finally, the education system in India is far far superior to Canada. For seniors Canada can be a living nightmare.

Yes, American citizens need to be taken care of first before we let any more people into the country, but let's keep thinking about this... Why are so many people trying to escape Venezuela? US - the problem is when there are obvious problems you have a system that allows big money into politics, which allows for lobbying, which in my opinion is legal bribery. From what we see, that is not happening all in big cities. Sandy Hook was the worst. The US simply lacks openness. Women’s rights, the LGBTQ rights, immigration, firearms, law enforcement; so many subjects which American and Canadian citizens think very differently. I'm a dual citizen, the US has gone down the drain since I left in 1980. I don't even have a desire to visit. The country is divided not only racially but divided between Rep/Dem's. Why would anyone want to live there? Please provide an example of why anyone would want to live there.

I grew on the border of Ontario and Northern New York State and have spent lots of time with people from the Southern United States and generally the people are very polite, on the surface. Unfortunately, as you get to know people you find out that many have some serious biased opinions on things that we in Canada have always been more accepting of. The last few years it’s been sad to see these views start spreading to our beautiful country. After Donald Trump and the rise of right wing conspirators the US is the last place I would want to live.

I've noticed that the reason why foreigners wouldn't want to move to the US really just boils down to one word – politics.\n\nI feel like many Canadians would be surprised by the fact that most Americans are actually _in support_ of common-sense gun legislation and free universal healthcare. \n\nAmericans and Canadians want many of the same things – the difference is that Canada doesn't have a poorly structured government that grants way too much power to horrible people so they can do horrible things to their country.

Only a fool would move from Canada to America - or a billionaire, or a lawyer or doctor. And basically that tells you everything you need to know. Normal people can't afford to be ill, can't afford to need recourse to the law and most of all are going to get shot by either an out-of-control terrified policeman or the next person they cut off at a junction.\nAlso, who wants to live in a country where everyone thinks they are superior to the entire rest of the world because their average calorie intake is enough to feed three normal humans? - AND I speak as someone who is really quite fat in the UK. ( but I'm only a 'medium' in America. :) )

I don’t want to set foot in your country and we would prefer you keep out of ours

I've always wanted to live in the US, so many happy vacations there as a child and teen. Sadly now due to the health care situation, there's no way I could. If someone makes a lot of money and can afford private insurance and the drugs they need, lucky for them. Especially as a diabetic, the price of insulin is around 5 x in the US what it is here. I don't earn enough to afford the drugs I need if I lived in the US, add in every three month blood work, dr visits, for a self employed person, it's just not doable on what I earn. \n\nAn American I talk to said one of his co workers was being laid off and the co worker was a diabetic and he didn't know what he was going to do without the health insurance the company provided him. It's insane health insurance is tied to employment in the US. people that are self employed would have huge private insurance bills, and people that get laid off or are fired, they could be taking thousands of dollars of drugs a month and all of a sudden it's gone with the job. My mom wouldn't even let us go to the US for a weekend without getting out of the country medical insurance coverage.

Your country is not a free society. Organised Religion forcing your people to hate each other, culture wars, book burning , 400 million guns with only 356 million population.\nYou have mass murder daily \nThe Holy War that your #GOP is division.. I would never want to live somewhere that strips Women and little girls the right over their own autonomy \nYour country is dangerous for anyone that isn't white/ straight/ Christian.\n\nCanada will do a hard pass !
