Bureaucracy, col weather, socialism in Canada will turn Canada to like a Latin American country. I left it to USA for education and with an MBA I couldn’t get a reasonable job in Canada, so I worked in USA and recently I thought to go to Ukraine or Moldova and find a sweetheart , buy a farm and stay there. But suddenly covid19 and Putin screwed up my plan. But I’m not giving up. Malaysia or Portugal should be cheaper and warmer. Oooh Canada, jus come for a visit. It turns to become a dumpster of refugees not for a bright future. ?

Boarders should have been closed 15yrs ago. No more refugees or immigration. Simple fix!. But the problem will continue to grow because canada welcomes the whole world ?.

This is SO true!!! I am American but have lived overseas in the UK and Europe. I can’t believe the difference. Living in America is so lonely! It’s isolating. It’s very sad. It didn’t used to be this way in the 40s, 50s, 60s 70s. This is a new phenomenon. Without w church family (and I’m not religious) you are literally on your own - and that’s as an American! I can’t believe what it would be like being a refugee or an immigrant. Depression is high and largely due to isolation.

Honestly, as a Canadian living in Vancouver which is the most expensive city in Canada, I can barely afford to pay for my monthly home mortgage in addition to the monthly condo fee, buy my weekly groceries, put gas in my vehicle at this time of hyper-inflation. I really don't want my income tax, consumption taxes (GST and PST which is a tax on tax), carbon tax, and property tax collected by the various levels of governments from me so that my hard earned money would be squandered on these Uranian refugees. I don't owe any of them a living. The news media said there would be tens of thousands of them wanting to settle in Vancouver. If these refugees are entitled to government benefits after they arrive, then so should I! Where are we housing these refugees when we can't even house the homeless people in East Hastings?

The refugee path after they've been accepted is a one year Federal paid Settlement allowance. Roughly the size of the CERB benefit. Once the year expires, they fall off the Federal books and become income support recipients with child tax benefits. At this point, the sponsor is considered to have fulfilled their obligation.

Dont think Ukrainians need any more special treatment, they are already getting special treatment by opening new pathways specific to them. If they cant afford Canada, be a refugee in another country. Just like immigrants, if you cannot afford Canada go to another country.

I love the diversity of Canada, the weather is not great. It can be very boring but a safe place. You just have to know what its really like here and make it work for you. If you are a refugee its a great place. If not, you do have to work hard, pay alot of tax, so its not all that easy living here. To each his own. Do what is best for you.

As an older Canadian who was educated in Canada with a B.Ed. - then worked away from Canada for thirty of my forty years. There is no way to say that any country is the best one to live in; every country has strengths and weaknesses- that especially relate to your specific needs and wants. Coming back to the country of my citizenship was also extremely hard for me after working away for so many years. The way to do well anywhere in Canada, is to build up credibility/seniority at one job and stick with it. Whether you are university or self-educated- which is considered just as valuable in today's job market- you are going to face an uphill battle unless you are fairly established. Canada has a high level of unemployment and some sectors, have an overabundance of trained workers. When my Middle East friends tell me they would like to live and work in Canada, I give them the advice I would give anyone. First, think about your family or friends that you want to have around you in your daily life- that is number one. Nothing is more depressing than being alone. Weather is a big factor, but it can be tolerated if you are with your core family or friends. One hundred years ago when my ancestors fled war and revolution, they had no choice but to do their best to make a life in a very difficult climate (literally)- culturally and weather-wise. There are a number of refugees today that are in similar circumstances. They do their best to get past the difficulties for the sake of their children's futures. If you are not literally refugees, think hard about you choice to leave your core culture and people.

I think if you were a doctor or a nurse in your old country and you immigrate to Canada you should be able to continue on in your medical field here in Canada without going through all the BS of exams. This is why we have a shortness of doctor's and nurses here in Canada because the frigging Government won't do anything about it. Except bring more and more refugees in to Canada and illegal migrants using up Canada's healthcare system that the Canadian taxpayers in Canada are force to pay for even though they have family members who are in dire need of medical attention, but the line up and wait time to see a specialist takes a lot of time. If a immigrant is coming to Canada and he or she is a doctor or a nurse and English is not their first language, well then put that immigrant person in an ESL class to learn English or a French learning class if that person is moving to Montreal or anywhere else in Quebec.

I had a similarly friendly crossing from the USA into Canada a few years ago, went back and forth several times in a week. Best part was standing on line behind the guy seeking asylum from the USA and wanting to be a political refugee in Canada, because he felt the internet wasn't safe.

My grandparents immigrated from Italy and Ireland. They never got nice warm Canada Goose jackets, clothes, Nike shoes designer jeans, free English lessons or welfare. They paid there way, bought their land and found work LEGALLY, paid to learn English.\nThey did not steal unemployed Canadians jobs going through Trudeaus let’s hire out of the country so our government funds part of the wage. What we get are lousy heath care workers who barely understand or speak the English language and are caring for our Elderly and mistreating them. This I saw first had. I took my Mother home out of a senior home and cancelled home care as they never showed up on time. Would they leave there parent in a urine soaked brief for 5 hours as that is how late they were. I had to quit my job to take care of her. I myself am disabled with a spinal injure. The worst part of “Home Care workers” is that they wanted me to call in and cancel so they got paid. This statement gave from the Home Care nurse in charge of these immigrants working here. Seven of my friends, who are educated health care workers, which they themselves paid for, not paid my our government. They can’t get a job. The last job I applied for and they ask you status I put that I am a Canadian refugee in my own country. \nPretty sad when on Remembrance Day you have these woke individuals begging for money to help refugees. They should be ashamed of themselves for this disgusting action as this is a time to remember the men and women who fought for our freedom. Trudeau is a total embarrassment to all Canadians. Plugging into a new system is tough legally. Be prepared to suffer a lot and you pay up. However, asylum seekers or refugees get money from the government and they're happy.

My own family immigrated here from South Africa 40 years ago. They say the people here are dour, and unfriendly. Ironically over the years they have become the same. The country changes you, and each province seems to have it's own culture. Currently in my province there is a large influx of Indian students and Syrian refugees. Many students I've spoken to complained about the racism, poor weather and lack of things to do in my city specifically. Myself, I feel foreign now in a city I grew up in and am hoping to move out west, but maybe further south to be with my american boyfriend. I wonder what it's like immigrating to the States lol!

If Canada takes in all the refugees from war torn countries immigrants won't be able to go back. The cold doesn't help too.

Sorry to say Canada is a place for youth who can start from scratch n best for refugees, instead getting professionals with experience to start over from scratch. I have seen highly professionals working to very low wage labor jobs. Canadian immigration need to rewrite their immigration structure. Thank God I made my decision on time n came back to my home country n now earning good in my profession or it would have been a disaster if I had not made that decision 2007
