I grew up in Canada..Calgary to be more specific. I have now been away for 10 years, living in Chile. I go visit every couple of years and I understand completely, id have a hard time moving back. Maybe for people who have arrived in the last few years it seems fine, but for the rest of us that remeber how it was 15, 20 or 30 years ago..its a shocking change. The big cities are full of drugs and homeless, which increases crime. Its expensive and good jobs are hard to come by. It seems to me 2015 was the turning point and only these last 2 or 3 years are Canadians realizing the mess that has been created.

I still want to call Canada a good country but why things are so expensive now? There must be a supply chain monopoly that needs to be crushed by the government so whoever is upstairs please do help us

Try London England, you’ll find it’s 3-4 times more expensive than Toronto. Or try living in Congo or Palestine, it’s a lot safer than Canada. \n\nSeeing fellow Canadians complain like babies when we have it so good compared to other places makes me EMBARRASSED. Life in Canada isn’t that bad! The cost of food is the same as England £4.50 for strawberries ($8.00), £3.00 ($6) for milk, and £5.50 ($9) for cheese but gas £2.90/L ($4.10/Litr) way more costly in England. It seems like it’s mostly Canadians who ONLY know Canada and immigrants who expected life to be magically easy and handed to them… ? ?‍♂️ I had to learn to be grateful living outside of Canada, the whole world is facing inflation right now! Europe and North America. But Canada isn’t as bad as many places. But then again, I’m not a quitter. The best way to survive is getting a good education and a stable and high in demand career. Nurse, doctor, teacher, lawyer, dentist, psychiatrist, etc etc. Then you will find you might complain a bit less ?

3rd generation here, I can retire next year as long as I leave Canada. If I remain, I will work until dead because it is so very expensive and getting more so under the cult of climate change. It pains me to witness what our governments have allowed to happen in our communities. Drug abuse is rampant, mental health is staggering, youth are medicated, gender confused and climate terrified. A homeless shelter for drug addicts is being built less than a 4 minute walk from my home which is in a seniors park....we will all be victimized by theft and vandalism. We are also divided thanks to trudeau who has labelled and categorized us so deeply he ran elections based on divisions. We are no longer the kind polite people we once were. Churches burning epitomizes the moral or lack of moral ground we live and act upon. So I am moving next year to central America, Panama most likely...I can afford to retire there, never need to heat my home nor worry trudeau is going to ban my furnace and my car. It saddens me to no end for I have grandchildren, 5 generations, of investment in this country.

I'm feeling the same. This country is running by bad managers who cannot be fired no matter how horrible their performance is. My friend from China visited me in Toronto about two months ago and he said he had zero interest in immigrating to Canada now because the streets look so trashy which I can totally relate. I came back from Japan last year and it was a bit culture shock to see how dirty the streets are in Toronto compared to Tokyo (not even the cleanest in Japan). I have to constantly remind myself I'm lucky to have a comfortable bed and a not too bad salary but my monthly savings after all the expenses are actually decreasing from year to year even I get a pay raise every year (I track all my spendings and income every month). Now it's time to consider other options before it's too late.

Canada is not the shadow of the amazing country that I deeply loved. The only way I could survive these last four years was to leave Canada for at least 4 months a year. I am leaving Canada again tomorrow, but this time is for good. Do I feel sad? not anymore. I will always remember Canada but the new reality is just a nightmare !!!!

I got deported from Canada for having an overstay on my visa tried to get it fixed but couldn’t was very expensive so came back to Europe which is going the same way as Canada mass emigration scary how quick it’s happening.

Because mass migration is a negative for the country and its culture. Public services quality goes down, security decreases, housing gets more expensive for the locals. Btw the same can be said about mass tourism, don't know if Canada also suffers from that. Me being Portuguese and having family also in Spain, both countries are suffering from both problems. Some migration and tourism may be a positive factor, but not massive and uncontrolled ones.\nIt wasn't a choice by citizens of any country, but by the transnational elite and its bureaucrats. That the Guardian and all the media promotes.\nAlso lets not forget that covid policies are responsible in no small part for a big bump in these problems. First with inflation, and then with the accelerated increase by Central Banks on interest rates, creating devaluations and economic problems in developing countries.

Immigration will not STOP ANYTIME SOON. Canada should have foreseen that the country would need more people 30-40 years ago and provided the resources to encourage Canadians to birth more children. Salaries are laughable, childcare is overwhelmingly expensive, food is expensive, rent is high. How do you expect Canadians to birth 4 -5 children when they are earning significantly less than their American counterparts. Immigrants will continue to troop into Canada where we like it or not.

Cherry on top are the income taxes. Cost of living is ridiculous expensive because not much is left in the bank after the government takes their part. I was able to build some wealth in Canada and left as soon I could. Being taxed 53% to live next to an injection site? Waiting MONTHS for healthcare? Not able to afford the expensive condos because the government took me half of my money? No thanks. \nLook at the US. Cost of living is still high these days but way more is left in your wallet. Canada doesn’t want anyone to build wealth. The system is really messed up. They want poor immigrants earning minimum wage in bad conditions.

I'm an immigrant to Canada. I've been here for 35 years (came here when I was 6). The current immigration/migration/ayslum seeker rates have gone completely insane. It isn't racist to think it's gone overboard. I went to very very multicultural schools. I grew up in Toronto and have lived downtown for 20 years now. I love our multiculturalism but there are limits to immigration if there simply isn't an infrastructure to support countless hundreds of thousands of people trying to move into the city each year. It's not sustainable at all. The roads aren't getting bigger, the housing zoning isn't getting easier, new hospitals aren't being built. You cannot try and cram 4 million people in a city built for like 2 million people. People moving to Canada simply do not realize just how absurdly expensive this place has become. What's the better alternative being poor in India or being poor in Canada? Because unless you are making 100k a year you are going to basically be poor in Toronto.\n\nThe big big difference as someone who has lived downtown Toronto for 20 years is now the homeless are very multicultural. 10 years ago it wasn't like that as much. Now people from every race and every background are at risk of homelessness. It's a rate race, it's a very competitive city for housing and jobs and as soon as you aren't in making $$$$$ you will fall behind.

I thought of moving to Canada too, but it felt really impractical. Canada is expensive, even to locals. This is what you get when you prioritize corporations over people, making the rich richer, and poor poorer. High rise condominiums bought by tax-evaders, and money launderers from all over the world, instead of livable communities. Happens almost everywhere in the world. I think everyone needs to live simpler, live in the province, or work from home, the cities are really getting unlivable nowadays, full of greedy corporations constantly fed by their cousins in the ranks.

I'm 27 and I have 35k saved. I've made so much money over the years that has been spent on rent, paying back student debt, braces, food, taxes, my business expenses, and life in general. I'm hoping my business will continue to grow to the point where I don't need to be worried about retiring... but honestly, Canada is making it really hard. For people who complain about Canada and wanna move back think twice, thrice and n more number of times.\nLife is expensive here and it's cheap nowhere. Taxes are high but the benefits are worth it. In my country, I gave up 30% of my salary purely for my children's school and bus fare, which is torally free of cost here.\n\nI was well versed with my local language and had a specialist dentist degree but still no job, whereas here even a mere DDS (undergraduate dentist) with poor English mints money.\n\nWhen i was jobless this country bore with me 70% of my family's total expenditure thru benefits and schooled plus comfortably yet freely transported my child which none of our home countries ever did (even Govt schools in my country charge a minimal fee and pupils' standard is deplorable).\nSo, yes, Canada is not a bed of roses to start with, but we never came from a bed of roses ?\n\nAnd one final note to people praising the US - ATLEAST I CAN VISIT A SHOPPING MALL IN CANADA AT PEACE THAT I WONT BE SHOT AT ?

Generosity? Ask any economic immigrant (being the majority of immigrants in Canada) what they receive free from government during any part of the process. Immigration is very expensive and we pay for everything from begining to end. Don't let anyone fool you, immigrate is a very expensive process that brings a lot of money to Canada.

And now Mexico is more expensive than ever simply because many Canadians and US citizens are packing up and moving there permanently. Politics and Immigration have killed Canada and US, unfortunately it will NEVER go back to the way it was. This is due to one reason and reason only. A poor government.

We brought in immigrants because we needed skilled labour. The immigrants came and worked at Fast Food establishments instead. Canada didn't address the skilled labour shortage how they should have, INVEST IN CANADIANS. Education is far too expensive for the essential trades and sectors and health care especially is no longer desirable because they're treated poorly and overworked. They should have fixed the issue at its core. Instead they brought in people they didn't properly vet. We also didn't have the resources to bring in so many people (housing, jobs, healthcare, education) so some (especially in BC/ ON) have turned to crime and gangs.

I wouldnt be surprised if Canadian citizens and permanent residents are entering illegally. Its too expensive here and there's not enough housing. Also no freedom of speech. I think it was last year or this year where more left Canada than actually came in.

Canada brought in 1 million immigrants from Jan 2021- Dec 2023, a 2.5% population increase. That, would be the equivalent of 8.75 million immigrants coming across the southern border over 2 years. Canada doesn't have jobs or housing for many, there's no checks and balances to see who are criminals. America needs to close their borders because 13000 asylum seekers is only the beginning. More and more immigrants to Canada are finding out it's too expensive to live here, and they have no future here. That, will force them south before they choose to go back to where they came from.

If these people can afford cab fare from Canada to New York City they are not poor. Just getting to Canada is expensive. The refugee story does not add up. Trudeau cancelled the VISA requirements for Mexican travelling to Canada. It was recently changed back. Trudeau has over 1.2 million new arrives per year. We have an extreme housing shortage and so much tax. Those that arrive find it so expensive and lack of job opportunities and end up trying to get into the US also. Canada has become a prime place for crime money washing.

Whatever you said is 100 percent correct. The reevaluation you did about the health care system is 100 percent right. The problem is Indian students are blindly coming to India without doing proper research and seeing things own sided. There are so many stories of Indian students living in pitiable conditions literally in poverty after coming here or they commit suicide under pressure as they cannot survive the harsh economic and social conditions. You have given a very good message that majority of students come here looking at example of people around them who are settled in Canada from the last 10-20 years but now the reality is so so different. Everything is super expensive and no matter how much you earn paying bills is getting so tough. Please don’t leave India if you have a family support and good financial and education background. Weird because thousands of migrants have been coming through the US into Canada for years. Of course the US and Canadian governments are both complicit in this. Both directions. I think most economic migrants soon realize that Canada is totally too expensive for anyone to get by and soon try to return to the US. Crazy, they should all be made to return to their places of origin and immigrate legally.

In most of history, a country would consider this an act of war. Another country can’t just allow a massive flood of foreign entities into another nations borders and not have it be considered an act of aggression. The USA should annex Canada. Clearly, they are not capable of running their own nation and protecting their own borders.\n\nIf the US were to annex Canada controlling the borders would be easy in the north if you just shut down the ports and airports.
