Gotta disagree w/ Mr. Trudeau on one point, when he says Trump is 'very smart'--NO. Otherwise, Trudeau's speech was spot-on, and I love and respect Canada even more now. Most of us Americans cannot be proud of our country; we are held captive by a wannabe dictator and his stooges who are self-serving, vindictive, and UNpatriotic! To gather some semblance of sanity, I am taking the family on a Canadian Rockies tour in late spring--am tempted to not return home again.

This is win win for both Canadian and American politicians they basically evened out the playing field and now both citizens from both countries will have to pay more for things. Easy way to trick the citizens we lose they win. They are all in this game together popping bottles and partying.

This is how we treat our friends and allies now. It's as if Trump has chosen to go to war against the American people directly, ruining our friendships like a jealous mate who wants to isolate you from his friends. He doesn't want us to have friends other than an equally abusive one like Russia. Did the voters really want this, even the ones who voted for him?

Bravo Prime Minister Trudeau. Unfortunately Donald Trump will destroy the US. Canada will grow stronger without US. It is regrettable that the current Trump administration is destroying the strong relationships between US with Mexico, Canada, Europe, UK, China, Middle East and Africa. Canada will always stand for democracy, freedom and justice even if this current administration refuses to do so. US and Canada has fought WWI, WWII, Korean war, Vietnam war, Iraq war, Afghanistan war together. As brothers in arms both have fought, bleed together against fascism. What Donald is doing in the US is as close as it gets to fascism in America. During this difficult time in American history more than ever America needs to trust in God. What would be interesting to know is how trade between Canada and Europe explodes, Europe would like all the oil and gas and rare earthminerals Canada has, so would China, if for nothing other than to prevent Americas access to it. I think trump and musk think russia will supply rare earth minerals on the cheap, but Russia is about to collapse again and various regions break away as they did last time, but this time is much worse than back then, Russia really could cease to exist and America will not benefit at all, Europe China India Mongolia will benefit. I never thought I’d live long enough to watch the fall of our American democracy. And I don’t say this lightly. It takes the PM of Canada to explain to the American people, in very clear and concise terms, the cost of having elected Trump. I've yet to see anything even close from any of our elected Democrats. But maybe, it has to come from someone outside, without the political baggage, even if we did have a strong, articulate political opposition to the Trump and the feckless GOP.

Trudeau is a sniveling little turd! He desperately wants to make the tariffs sound like they aren't 100% fair. Canada already taxes US imports at an average of 25%, so these US tariffs only balance the playing field. All that said, like Zelensky, Trudeau seems to forget that Canada needs the US, but the US doesn't need Canada. He says that it is going to be tough in Canada; true. On the other hand, the average American probably won't even notice a difference. But the neverending, desperate anti-Trump narrative twisting is all CNN knows.

As a German - apart from the content which is no less than justified - just technically comparing Trudeau´s speech with Donald Trump´s verbal outcome - what an incredible difference in niveau & tone. Isn't it almost tragic how little skill it took to run the U.S and even worse, how low the common-sense-threshold must be for a half of the American people to make this happen a second time. Embarrassing.

Let me explain the trading relationship briefly that occurs between Canada and the US for context. \n \nCanada Has a LOT of natural resources, more than our domestic manufacturing base needs (Uranium fuel, Lumber/paper products, Steel and other metals, Fertilizer for farms...etc). Therefore we sell those raw materials to the states where they are manufactured into goods, which we then buy back. a LOT of American service companies like tech, media (And yes, even banks)...etc also operates in Canada as well. (For the auto sector the parts flip back and forth across the border like 8 times) \n \nThis relationship alone has the American economy see a large trade surplus with Canada, however there is another element to it: Energy. \n \nCanada is also home to a LARGE amount of really cheap renewable hydro power in the east, and a LOT of oil in the west, due to a lack of infrastructure we really can only sell that oil to the states and therefore it is done at a discount. America refines this cheap oil into gas and is a large part of the reason why American gas is so cheap. They use this energy to power the same factories mentioned above. (Oh and also the NE states import a lot of that clean hydro electricity for the same reasons) \n \nThe US Buys SO MUCH of that cheap energy from us to power your industrial base, that it swings the numbers on the trade balance into a small deficit for the USA. (41 billion out of a TRILLION dollars total trade, or about -4.1% of total trade so literally a pretty small deficit) It also swing back and forth every year so \n \nThen comes Trump. He wants Canada as a 51st state and own the entire continent, therefore he manufactures an excurse that our border is leaky and that migrants and fentanyl are flowing over. (In actual case migrants and the flow of Fent is about 1% the amount that's crossing at the Mexico border but he needs an excuse) \n \nHe therefore puts 25% tariffs on us. Those tariffs will hit Canada harder than the 2008 financial crisis just for scale. \n \nOh and also for the most part American Refineries literally cant process any other oil than ours or Venezuela's because its thicker so tariffs on our oil will also really increase the priced of energy in the states by a huge amount just for the LOLs. As we've seen during the post covid recovery, since gas is priced in to the supply chain at every step (Manufacturing, transportation...etc), any increase at the pump will snowball into higher costs for everything at the store, on top of the extra cost of the tariffs on consumers. (Since every step will need to add it into their markup.)
