To my mind, Trump would have started the trade war with Canada no matter what measures Canada undertakes. My guess is the underlying motive behind the whole theatre is to somehow pressurize Canada into complete submission. Remember his comments about Canada should become the 51st state? I presume that in reality his eyes are set on Canada‘s vast resources and the potential north-west passage which would be a fantastic gift to his master Putin.

The words being used are that Europe is no longer democratic or secure (Vance) or that Europe is generally a bad place in a bad situation (Trump).\n\nEurope would do well to create their own military, and reduce their dependencies on USA as well as Russia. Europe would do well to seek other allies and new alliances, and to prepare for war.
