I'm not muslim, but I've lived and worked in Saudi where Islam permeates every facet of life. I also lived in worked in Malaysia where Muslims make up the majority. Both countries have their advantages and disadvantages. As you have a Canadian passport you're more likely to get a better job in Saudi. No guarantee of that in Malaysia. \nI found the food better in Malaysia, but the food in Saudi is pretty darn good too. \nWinter in Saudi is very nice, at least where I lived in Khobar. Having done a similar voyage, my two-pence is that, resources permitting, at least until you have really properly tried the other country out for a period of time, I'd recommend retaining a base, even if a small one, in Canada, leaving your longer term stuff there rather than packing everything that you own and dragging across the world. In my experience, the most enhancing and liberating situation is one where you get to enjoy the privilege of being able mix the best of the two worlds. When abroad in the other Muslim country you will have great moments but - guaranteed - also a fair share of disappointments and negative experiences. Even if you think you have thought of everything, you don't know what you don't know, or how you may feel, or what and where is better, until you've spent a longer time over there. It’s been 5 years for me here and I honestly can say I have achieved nothing in my life yet. It scares me when I think I can’t return whatever my parents had invested in me. Anedote: Was on one of the Quora (see these are from Reditt) a gentleman was explaining that he had a motorbike accident and had multiple breaks to the lower leg. When talking the options he decided to have his leg amputated. Reason it would cost him a hell of a lot less than get his leg repaired. He didn't want it amputating bit with no guarantee that his leg would be fully healed he decided to go with the cheaper option.

I find it interesting that noone has mentioned Maternity leave or Paternity leave for new parents. I think paternity leave is about 6 weeks in Canada but zero in USA. Maternity leave in Canada can be as much as a year (probably unpaid or half pay) but in the USA, I have heard that its barely 3 months for moms and even then its not guaranteed.

In my opinion if you move to Canada without taking the proper steps and expect everything to work out for you then you are very naive and cannot complain. First off a lot of Kenyans are applying for visitor visas instead of work visas which are harder to get and thinking once they are in Canada they can look for work. You are not allowed to work on a visitor visa and most employers will not even consider your applications if you do not have either a work permit, refugee status, or permanent residency/ citizenship. Work experience is also very important here and many employers will not consider someone even with canadian education that has no experience. Another thing is Canadian benefits such as subsidized health care etc is only available to people that are on long term work permits with no conditions, refugees, and permanent residency holders and government housing is only open to refugees and permanent residency holders/ citizens. So in short if you move there without a plan, the correct papers, and the willingness to work even lower income jobs until you get Canadian work experience and expect the government to help you just because you landed then you are sorely mistaken and will very easily end up on the streets. Another thing is just because you are granted refugee status does not guarantee you a home as we have seen, the government housing waitlist is very long and even Canadian citizens that cannot afford their rent end up on the streets because there are too many people applying for housing. So please do not think just because you were allowed to stay as a refugee life will be sweet. \nHowever if you do your research and take the right steps so you are fully prepared, put in the time and effort even though things may not be happening immediately then you can have a success story.

As an international student, I am currently in Canada, and the grass is not always greener. The narrative spread out there is contrary to the reality when you get here. Sadly, I worked at an agency back home and I regret all the lies I told people, I was coached to do. Don't make the mistake of coming to Canada without the right papers, most people are scammed by agencies through this, and you will have a hard time. Trust me, you don't want to be homeless during winter, it is brutal. Don't come to Canada, if you don't have lots of money, the cost of living here is insanely expensive. If you have a good life in Kenya and earn over 70K, that will guarantee a better life back home than here.

Basic tip : if you travel legally, with the right channels into Canada you will not have to struggle. The government will even ensure you are getting support while at it. Once you 'cheat' your way in please expect repurcussions. The canadian government is as transparent as you'd like it to be. I came here with no agent, followed the guidelines from the government immigration website, got a visitors visa for 6months, immediately applied for temporary workers visa got it within 45days, upgraded to permanent residency and got it within 60days. Once you breach the guidelines of Canada immigrations don't expect mteremko. The laws here are the most friendliest and yes Canada is made of immigrants. If you can come please do it the right way. Hi Lynn, l live in Banbury, Oxfordshire. There is nothing in the west, Africans are better off in Africa. Life in England is like attending a top school where you have to work so hard to keep up. Theoretically in the west, the first 40% to 50% of your wages goes in taxes. This leaves you with half your income. Your half income will then cover your rent/mortgage and all other bills. Once you have paid eve body, your basically left with nothing. Our lifes are in forever debt spinning wheel. I am a Ugandan, lived in the UK for 33yrs. This is home and is l know. But l am sure many places are better than here. What is guaranteed is food and health. Food is very cheap in relation to people's income. Health services are free, kids education are free too. These are the things you can't guarantee in Africa. Could be the main reason many foreigners choose to settle in the UK. Thank you.

The biggest mistake you can do is to go to Canada on a visitors visa and expect to get a job. The easiest way is to go to school and after finishing your studies you get a 3 year’s work permit and it’s not a guarantee you’ll get PR afterwords since the points are so high.

The traffic is crazy almost every day now with accidents that lead to unbelievable congestion.
