I’m in Seattle and have a vacation home in British Columbia so go there often while renting out other days to other people. Wonder how the tariffs gonna affect this. For example if certain things need to be remodeled in my pad over in BC I usually order from suppliers in USA near the border since I use them for my home in Seattle too. I’m guessing it might get taxed now. Not sure how it will play out. I do know that initially tariffs gonna effect lot of people but do believe in general it will get economy better. I recently saw that Mexico been adding tariffs for years for certain USA goods (for example appliances purchased in usa from Mexico will cost another 27% etc) and it’s time for USA do similar things. Just hoping my burrito cost doesn’t keep going up. Was around 8$ several years back and now it’s 14$ in Seattle ?

Canada and Mexico are not responsible for the people in the US who chose to use drugs. In fact, it's the United States job to keep illegal drugs and immigrants out of the US and they are doing a poor job of it and need someone else to blame. Trudeau has the nerve to say that the US-Canadian border is safe and secure. But in Paliament he regularly complains about illegal items flowing over that same safe and secure border. You cant have it both ways Prime Minister. \n\nAlso, fentanyl has legitimate medical uses. So saying that you are going to wipe Fentanyl from the face of the earth is odd.

So let's talk about fentanyl. \n\nMost fentanyl in the US originates from China, often in precursor form, and is then processed in Mexico before being smuggled into the states. But it's typically trafficked in small, high potency quantities, often hidden in legitimate shipments or through mail, and only on very rare occasions is it being brought in by individuals crossing the border. It has _never_ been documented to have shipped in as part of large scale commercial imports, so a 25% tariff on legal trade with Canada and Mexico doesn’t directly target the black market supply chain at all.\n\nIf we take Trump’s reasoning at face value, the argument seems to be that he wants to exert economic pressure on Mexico and Canada as a means of having them crack down harder on drug trafficking networks. But the issue is that fentanyl simply isn’t coming in through mass import channels, so all this looks like is a punitive measure without a clear mechanism to actually achieve its stated goal. And the implications? Drastically higher costs for consumers in the US, Canada, and Mexico, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

Can someone why tell me why we import food and oil that we already have in our own country? There is a terrif on beef. We have cows in CA, Texas and Montana. Why don't we use that beef? Imports and exports make no sense to me. Same with oil. We make tons of it yet import it to other countries and then buy oil from Canada. Why?

I and my wife together pay over 100,000 CAD annually through taxes as foreign workers from India, i have never felt this patriotic towards Canada. Together, Canadians can weather this situation.
