My neighbour is a high skilled import for a Canadian job. Now he still lives in Canada but works remote for a US organization and he still isn’t a citizen. Something smells fishy, huh.
I’m a high skilled Canadian but couldn’t find permanent work after a layoff in 2015. Funny how in my contract roles I constantly work alongside so many new arrivals that find work 2 months after they get here. I’m sure $$ in wages and subsidies were involved.

Good. Too many immigrants is a strain on all benefits for Canadian citizens. Citizens should be cared for first and foremost.
|
| 2025-04-15 | 1 |
I am supportive of immigration, but I believe there should be a cap of no more than 1-2.5% annually.
A significant number of migrants moving to Canada from the same region or country could cause issues, as this can lead to the formation of "mini-bubble" societies within Canada. These groups may sometimes become the dominant demographic and undermine the existing communities that have contributed to building Canada for decades.
We cannot expect new immigrants to seamlessly merge into Canadian society. This is a major oversight by Canada’s Immigration Department. Digital applications from foreign nations may play a role in this phenomenon.
There should also be regulations concerning how many new immigrants can be brought in by family members. For instance, one new citizen can legally bring both of their parents and their spouse, which is fair. However, there have been cases where this process is repeated multiple times within ten years, leading to a 1:15 ratio, where one person can bring in six to eight relatives.
If there is a labor shortage in essential fields, Canada can offer long-term residency to those who continue to work in those sectors, such as caretakers. However, the pathway to citizenship could be lengthened or require a higher standard. For instance, the requirements could extend from X years of living in Canada to X+5 years, as well as passing a basic Canadian citizenship test, either written or verbal.
While an increase of five years may seem unfair or lengthy, it is essential. A newborn child from a Canadian family requires 18 years to gain voting rights in elections, whereas new immigrants—especially those who come for study for four to six years—can potentially gain both citizenship and voting rights sooner if they meet the previous administration's standard.
Children under the age of 18 can gain citizenship in as little as X-4 years, regardless of their full integration into Canadian society. This loophole is sometimes abused and provides preferential treatment that favors this process over existing Canadian.
In my opinion, it would be fairer to calculate the duration of "living in Canada" based on the number of years they have paid "income taxes" in Canada. This is important because many individuals with multiple passports pay taxes elsewhere while benefiting from Canadian healthcare and other services.
The investment in home buying as a pathway to citizenship has contributed to the housing crisis, resulting in numerous empty homes in various regions. While it may offer short-term economic benefits that some politicians favor, it is detrimental to Canada as a whole. If buying a house is the only requirement for citizenship, wouldn't a large portion of the global population be eligible for U.S. citizenship just by investing in U.S. businesses or stocks? This perspective may seem illogical when looking at it from outside the box.
Apologies for being a bit wordy; I had much more to say.
Nonetheless, I also support temporary residency for up to 6-9 months for those who have been evacuated due to war, natural disasters, or similar circumstances.
Special exceptions can be granted for families with members working in critical fields that merit such considerations (high-end industry).

These immigrants were scheduled to leave anyway. They were well aware of it. So, it is not based on new immigration rules. The government tried to force too many people into the country, causing a spike in housing prices and many other problems. This then affected every Canadian. A lot are becoming even poorer. It is one of the reasons they had more tent cities and 2 million people going to food banks along with 2/3 of Canadians with only 500.00 a month after all monthly bills were paid. That's 2/3 of Canadians. The Convoy had released these figures over a year ago at CPAC. Proving that Canada is in a huge mess economically because of these Liberal policies. @minimaxmiaandme.4971 - I don't hide behind a fake name. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of the convoy or did you forget? The Liberals violated Canadians' Constitutional Rights to Protest. Which proves they are more credible than the Liberals. Now be man enough to show your real identity.

Trump is doing all these crazy things but he is forgetting one HUGE thing. Canada & many other countries are Allies of America & while he's talking about tariffs & goodness knows what (I did watch his talk in Congress), at least respect your Allies. Trump is sleeping with the enemy & in all my years, I've never seen an American President turn on their Allies like this. He is a dangerous man for all the wrong reasons. I feel badly for the American people whom will be stuck between a rock & a hard place. I feel for the Canadian's whom don't deserve this. Trudeau speaks so genuinely & politely where Trump yells 'this is the way things will be'. \nI don't look forward to the next 4 years & many in my country (Australia) have said they won't even go to America while Trump is in Office. We have always loved Canada. We 'gather at Whistler' then go travel. Great country. Much love from your Aussie mates ❤❤

Trump is the best !!!! I am so proud of United States .I still remember how Canadian Parliament gives WWII Nazi standing ovation and how many more of them were hiding there

I’m American I AGREE WITH THE CANADIAN PRESIDENT!!!! We know what he is doing and not EVERYONE voted for HIM! The American ppl are aware that we will suffer, we’ve been suffering! Many of us are casualties of an unnecessary war!

Hi Canadian friends! As an Italian used to live in a country ruled by many incapable politicians (truth is we stopped to have the most valuable ones between the second half of the 1970s and the first half of the 1980s) I have to say your prime minister Trudeau has always been seen like a good one from Europe and this speech is no exception. So, why will he soon leave his office? What' s there that we don' t know or understand?
|

I believe Canada and Mexico will fold and play chicken. Trudeau's appeals to US voters showed Canada lacks courage. On TV, Trump saw many Canadian leaders squirming and making threats. Look at China - Xi stayed silent and implement counter measures.

Gee…what a surprise! ….NOT! \nThe most toxic person in the world who LOVES to create chaos & division has stirred up a bees nest in countries all around the world. That’s what Trump does. Chaos, division, hard feelings & bitterness are his forté. \nThat’s the leader America has chosen over someone with common sense, intelligence, & who would have tried to unite the American ppl & create an economy that would be stable & help the majority of Americans because Kamala IS like the majority of Americans. She understands the struggle of trying to making a living when you’re not born into wealth like Trump was.\nHe can’t relate to the struggles of the average American family trying to earn enough to provide for their families. He’s never known that struggle. \nAnd why should he care if he causes ppl on both sides of the border to lose jobs, & consequently lose their homes? He’s rich. He can afford the higher costs of everything in both countries that he is initiating. He chose this trade war because he wants to take over Canada. \nWhat is wrong with Americans who thought voting him in AGAIN was a great idea over the common sense & economic stability Kamala Harris offered? He TOLD you he was going to do this. \nYou ppl who voted for him KNEW his past history. He’s a proven liar, a cheat, a fraud, a scammer, a sexist, a predator of vulnerable women, & a convicted felon..\nAnd more than anything else, he’s a BULLY! He uses his words with his bull horn & public media to speak against anyone who opposes him to try to subtly motivate his MAGA hounds to attack the ppl & their families that actually tell the truth about him. And then he steps aside & waits for his minions to respond & acts totally innocent as if he is not responsible because he did not directly tell them to go after the ppl he very purposely speaks hostile about. WAKE UP! He IS responsible because he knows very well his words have power to influence ppl to take action. \nAnd too many cowards in the Supreme Court & Republican party including his own VP Mike Pence were all too afraid to speak up against him. \nIf the majority of Americans want such a toxic person for leader, that’s America’s poor choice but Canada wants NO PART in his BS.\nHands off Canada because we WILL stand united & will support our governments efforts & the efforts of other Canadians to withstand against Trump’s bullying tactics.\nBUY CANADIAN!

I am sick of Trump but it teach a moral lessons to a Canadian govt. But many citizens don't get it because the US tariffs did enforce the Canadian govt to secured the borders to save many peoples lives from illegal drugs.

Why is it US truckers can only deliver goods loaded in the US to Canada or Mexico? Why is it a driver can take goods loaded in Canada or Mexico and deliver them at multiple points throughout the United States? Why did American truckers support Canadian truckers when Peter Pan Trudeau was jailing Canadians for honking their horns? Why is it American has beens and generals turned media stars always know what's best for the whole damned world when they haven't lived as a ciilian for thirty or forty years? Why is it when there is no war dumb asses all over the world want to start one? Why didn't Europe listen when they were being warned forty years ago to strengthen their NATO members military? How many armed Russian tanks that squared off against American tanks in Berlin in 1961 were made and manufactured in Ukraine? Why is it it's always so hard for lefty socialists claiming to be democrats refuse to accept the change from their worldly liberal socialist big government ideals to a smaller more conservative governent posture around the world? Why do........................................

You know, as a Canadian, I started to watch this video with just a whole lot of blame and spite for Trump, but who knew that my eyes would well with tears thinking about the sad reality that is the present day (i.e. the detrimental impacts this will have for many and the generational relations that have crumbled).

As a Brit... I've been to Canada many times (the first time as a soldier in 1981) and of late in the likes of BC, I've fished there. Love, love, love Canada and the Canadians. I've been to America too, and I love it there also. And while I'm not always a good judge of people...I flatter myself I'm a VERY good judge of character. And oh man, have they ever got it wrong with this Trump fella. Now there's a bloke I would not like to find myself in a combat situation since he'd likely shoot me in the back and run the other way. I just find myself asking how on earth it has come to this. How can they possibly think that a person such as this is a fit bloke to lead their country. Hitler? Don't talk to me about Hitler America. Honestly, it would make you want to weep...

Trudeau has had his share of critics during his tenure. But he's always had Canada and its' people in his best interest. While he was forced to resigned as many members of this cabinet was losing faith in him, this is his last week in office with nothing to lose. During these past few weeks, he has been a true champion by rallying the whole country and uniting us closer than I've ever seen. This speech was exactly what we Canadians all feel. Mic Drop! Thanks for the heartfelt comments from around the world.

The real reason US put tariffs on Canada: \n\nCanada has zero nukes- so they have zero deterrence. The USA has 3,748 nukes.
\nCanada has zero aircraft carriers. The USA has 11 nuclear aircraft carriers. The entire rest of the world has 16, but only one is nuclear.
\nCanada has zero destroyers! The USA has 65 Top Tier destroyers.
\nCanada has only 85 operational fighter jets, but they are outdated and scheduled to be replaced. The USA has 2,740 with 786 being the latest Gen.
\nCanada has 82 Leopard 2 tanks and only some are third Gen. The US has 8,100 tanks and they are all third Gen.
\n2.3 million Canadians own 12 million guns, but many are low caliber and low use/capable. Canadians privately hold about 2.3 Billion rounds of ammo, but most is smaller caliber hunting rounds.
\n81 million Americans own about 400 Million guns with extensive capabilities and usability, including permitted full automatic. The storehouse of privately held ammo is massive in the range of 2 to 25 trillion rounds.
\n40% of Americans are raised in a gun culture and develop and hone their weapon use skills for a lifetime. 22% of Canadians have a similar gun culture.
\n
\nCanada has gotten away with having a weak military and saving enormous costs by not having to produce or buy military equipment. \n\nThe USA has never charged a fee for providing deterrence to potential enemies, and in fact pays Canada on a massive trade deficit instead. Canada exacerbates their precarious situation, by continuing to take guns away from their population.

Many thanks to Trudeau. I just love it, World Democracy Leaders like Trudeau, Macron, Keir Starmer and many more EU leaders will come to the aid of Americans to show just how Corrupt and Deranged Trump is and, he can't threaten or fire them. Trump's actions WILL trigger a unification of EU Countries with Canada and any other country that Trump threatens. Tesla EVs won't be purchased, EU and Canadian Satellites won't be launched by US companies, and you'll see EU and Canadian Defense company R&D funding and sales take-off as new Trade agreements are made between these other countries that Severely hurt the US Economy in numerous ways which, just maybe, some since into the total Nut-Job, Scum-Bag, multi-Felon and Rapist named Donald.

Canada already had tariffs on certain U.S. goods before the recent trade disputes escalated in 2025. Historically, Canada has maintained tariffs on various American products to protect its domestic industries, particularly in sectors like agriculture and manufacturing. For example, under the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (USMCA), which replaced NAFTA and was signed during Donald Trump’s first term, trade between the U.S. and Canada is largely tariff-free for many goods. However, Canada has long imposed high tariffs on specific U.S. products outside of these agreements, such as dairy, poultry, and eggs, under its supply management system. These tariffs can reach up to 270% on milk, 245% on cheese, and nearly 300% on butter, designed to shield Canadian producers from foreign competition.\n\nAdditionally, Canada has applied tariffs on other U.S. goods over the years, often in response to trade disputes or to balance economic interests. For instance, before the latest round of tariffs in 2025, Canada had tariffs on thousands of product categories, though the exact scope and rates varied depending on the goods and trade agreements in place. Posts found on X also highlight sentiment that Canada has had tariffs on U.S. products like dairy and cars for decades, with some claiming rates as high as 25% on U.S. vehicles—though this may reflect specific cases rather than a blanket policy.\n\nIn contrast, the U.S. generally did not impose broad tariffs on Canadian goods until recent actions under President Trump, who introduced a 25% tariff on Canadian imports effective March 4, 2025, prompting Canada to retaliate with reciprocal 25% tariffs on CA$155 billion of U.S. goods. This retaliation built on Canada’s existing tariff framework but escalated the scale significantly. So, while Canada did have tariffs on U.S. goods beforehand, the current trade war has intensified the situation far beyond the pre-existing measures

Well if hes going to talk like that all governor positions are off the table for him...\nMaybe Putin will catch Trudeaus ankle with an umbrella end and ding dong the witch is dead. ?\nFunniest thing is he says prices are expected to rise for Americans . Through tariffs right?\nSo then he matches those tariffs. So i guess Canadians can expect the same old bs from him.\nBC legalized fentynol! They found a giant fentynol lab out there. Imagine how many more there are! \nCrack heads all over our major cities in Canada. Jobs are down, economy is down, human rights is down. But he has nice socks.

As a German citizen: our US friends make me so sad and scared at the same time. After our people were defeated, we learned (at least for many of us) where nationalism and hatred can lead and how important international cooperation is. You were our friends as the Canadians were and are. Please come to your senses dear US friends. Underneath all the bad, I hope that the Canadian-European partnership can continue to grow

I’m a Canadian and this guy ‘Trudeau is a FAILURE’ he is supposed to be stepping down shortly. He is fake, he has made our country horrible, he imprisons his own people. He is evil, he is wicked. He should be put in prison for Life! He has broken so many laws it’s insane. The stupidity out of all these governments blows my mind. Time for grownups to run the show and actually keep their promises, and actually do what is right! Whatever you do do not listen to Trudeau he is evil(lover of Satan). I will spend my lifetime dealing with his failures. #trudeausucks #imprisonhim

Say it correctly please, the American PEOPLE are NOT enemies of Canada….President Trump and those who voted for him are enemies of Canada. Many Canadians and Americans are being harmed by a president they did not vote for and we don’t want Canadians and Americans who are innocent to suffer. A great day of us Americans want to remain friends with Canadians and are very sad about what is going on.

There is a lot of talk on Fentanyl headed south, but no mention by Canada of how much of the drug heads north. I can't be zero. There has to be transit of the drug from the USA into Canada.\n\nBut what I truly don't understand, is that what heads south is not crossing through the Canadian border. All south bound traffic needs to go through US Border patrol agents. So by that measure, how is Canada not doing its job? I've crossed into Canada many times and have been asked to pull over for a search of my vehicle more times than I've been searched on my return to the USA, which was once, my very first crossing in 2002. \n\nMy only guess is the problem isn't fentanyl, that's just a distraction and by design a way to get people believing in something that isn't true and to help further the rift.

People from the USA will pay the price for all this but Trump doesn't care because he considers them as slaves to him and his rich friends. As for Vance and his comment about war... Hey Vancy boy...wnaan talk about war? Really? USA got his arse kicked in Vietnam, Modagishu, Irak and Afghanistan. The only war they had some success with was against the weak Germans during WWII and they would have never been able to do it without the Russians. And let's not forget that they almost got defeated a few days after D-Day. This, because of..... bogs! So get here Vancy boy and you'll see what Canadians are capable of. Besides that, you need us more than we need you and you automobile's economy (among many others) is going to crash just because of you and Trump. No more electricity for you, no no more gas, no more oil, no more lumber, no more aluminum, no more alcohol sales and the worst part...no more maple syrup! Besides that, almost everything sold by the USA is coming from China, so why bother buying from the USA when we can buy the same for cheaper?

trudeau all you have done for Canada and Canadians in 10 years is try your best to destroy us. Why should we believe anything you say. How many $ billions have you embezzled? This is not anti-American, it is just fighting back from an unnecessary trade war. It does however break my heart because many Canadians have family on the U.S. side. I know it would also break my father’s heart as he grew up in New England and had a lifetime affection for the U.S. I despise politics and have not been a proud Canadian for a few years but I have to admit that this speech is getting me going again. Canada needs to get its act together and rebuild its military, not to fend off the U.S. but to hold its own should other countries decide we are ripe for the picking. I want U.S.-Canada relations to be tight again. We’re neighbor. We will have our disagreements and that’s fine but these trade wars will hurt everyone and, if it lasts, may leave lasting grievances.

They looked scared as hell. Trudeau is like a vindictive fired employee who steals and damages stuff before leaving. People like him are why many companies have security escort them out when they leave. Canada is going to suffer just so this wimp can feel like he stood up to Trump. He isn't even in a position to negotiate anymore. He's just causing his country more pain for no reason. Typical socialist. Whole lot of people in the comments don't understand the numbers. Canada has zero chances to win a trade war. Many Canadian businesses are already moving to the US.

As a US citizen who has lived within 5 miles of the Canadian border, worked for Canadian employers, and had many Canadian friends, I have always known them to be quietly strong people. This just strengthens my conviction. I am so glad SOMEONE will stand up to the tyrant who has stolen my nation.

I’m a 53 year old Canadian. I went to college on an athletic scholarship & lived there for 10 years after turned professional in my sport. Why, why, why - with all the problems going on in the world right now to tackle - why would you want to start a trade war with your closest trading partner & most loyal ally? Not to mention that your list of Allies is shrinking daily. This is not going to end well for either of us. \nI just arrived home from a trip to the grocery store - making sure nothing in my cart said “ made in the USA” on it due to the new tariffs that began today. \nThe irony is, many of the states where Trump won by the biggest margin, are the states that are going to get hit the hardest from Canadian retaliation tariffs ( Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, Indiana, the Dakotas - just to name a few). A lot of farmers in those states are going to be hit extremely hard with the fertilizer tax. After Canada, the next 3 largest Potash producers are Russia, Belarus & China. So , good luck \nWhen the cost of fruit & vegetables skyrocket across the US. Maybe you’ll put a little more thought into your vote 4 years from now.

You people from XYZ are really like the EU hypocrites that all you got is words. As a Canadian, I hate Trudeau and everything his government has done to the country. I want a PM like Trump that is willing go against the entire system(deep state) and dig out all the dirt even though you're in the way of a lot of powerful people and organizations. Out of all the world leaders today, Trump is the only one with that kind of courage. Compare that to Trudeau—aside from his nice suits and polished public image, what has he actually done to improve the lives of Canadians? \nWe need a DOGE go into WHY WE ARE PAYING SO MUCH TAXES. When I was living in Vancouver, I (and many ppl) would just drive cross the border to get gas and groceries because it's just much cheaper once you're on US soil.... For years we cannot retain any talents because they would just migrate to the states because the pay is much higher with less taxes. I used to live in a bubble thinking that even though life is tough and it's harding to make a living here but at least it's more peaceful here than the States. That is not the case anymore and everything is getting worse in the past 10 years.

I'm a Canadian. I am trying to wrap my head around why a President would start a trade war by imposing tariffs that hurt their allies and hurt his own people..!? I am not an economist nor an investor; However I found it interesting that the immediate result of this as they corresponded about this news is how the markets are taking a major dive. If I wanted to make money off the stock market and had no morals and had the power to cause it to crash, I would make sure it crashed hard by imposing tariffs. Then I would invest as many billions in the key stocks that will come back, and watch my billions turn into 10's or 100's of billions...\nThe other possible explanation could simply be that he wants all the critical minerals from Canada, Greenland, Ukraine for nothing. Taking those minerals for free and selling electric cars, miliatary equipment, etc. would be most profitable!\nBut greed seems to know no bounds for those who are wealthy, as long as it's at their gain and not at their expense!

This action will add more homeless people and drug addicts on the streets of Canada and at the same time drive many Canadians out of their own country because of the already rising cost of housing and other necessities.
