The only thing that will get Trump to pull in his horns is for countries to respond with counter-tariffs that will HURT Americans big time. Trump said they don't need our energy. Let's shut down hydro electricity sales to the US and allow millions of residences and industry go dark in winter and wait for Trumps call to negotiate. The US NEEDS Canadian resources and we should use that to our advantage.

I have lived in Canada for 70 yrs. We will not submit to a want a be dictator-. Hes putting the blame on us when its his fault from all his failed promises hes made before and now. Mexico and Canada imposing tariffs on the US is not going to hurt us like they think. We have more ships and planes and are able to move more goods faster to other countries who will buy. Tariffs can be a useful tool but it shouldn't be the only tool. For this US president it's like his only tool. Applying tariffs to everything is like trying to use a hammer to fix everything. It will just end up hurting ordinary people ?

As an American, I welcome all countries being threaten by Trump and his version of America to fight back. Arguing and reasoning with the other half of America isn't working for us. Been buying almost exclusively Canadian for every product i can manage since 2016. Trump thought it would hurt Canadians, it just proved to us that the US is unreliable as a partner, so long as 50% of the US population considers us as beneath them rather than partners.

If you do the math and see who purchases what from who, this is heavily in favour of the US. Yes, both countries will hurt but it will hurt Canada a lot more - this is just going from national statistics for trade dependencies.

Fun fact: Columbia is where we get a major chunk of our coffee from, so now our coffee, our fuel for working Americans will get more expensive if this is a prolonged tariff! We're just hurting ourselves with these outrageous tariffs because all of these countries (even Columbia) can just sell the supply of whatever the US is putting a tariff on to other countries like in Europe or Asia, or could just put retaliatory tariffs on us, leading to a possible trade war over FUCKING COFFEE. Can you guys report that this was a loss for Trump because the Colombian president said that he has no problem putting a tariff right back onto us. Wrong! It doesn’t cost Americans more when a tariff is placed. It forces the incoming product manufacturer to lower its costs so people will still buy, and if people still buy, the percentage of tariff will fund the us government vs our income taxes. If they don’t lower their costs, they risk people not buying which hurts their business and hurts the country they are in because they don’t make as much money to send taxes to their country’s government

For Columbia, your coffee, tropical fruit like bananas, flowers are going up. For Canada, your gas prices, housing costs. All this means is that USA consumers pay more for whatever Colombia exports and what consumers will need ( supermarket food produce for example) ?? It does not help US farmers who cannot deliver to super markets their field produce because Trump is deporting workers who go into the fields whom primarily collect it !!!\nTrump is basically taxing the US consumers and pushing prices up !! The US importer pays the tariffs (US customs tax at port of entry) whom then passes it onto the consumer !!\nThe consumer can of course not purchase the product which would hurt Colombia exports; the importers would have to hurriedly find another source whom would probably also increase their price because of demand.\nTrump is a loser and always will be; his businesses are mostly failures; even casinos !!
